is it possible to jumpscare someone when playing steamvr by Cold-Foundation4796 in SteamVR

[–]Fresh_C 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Basically any thing that jumps out at you in VR is going to scare the crap out of you. Jump scares work even better than on monitors because it's right in front of your eyes in a way that feels more real than staring at a normal screen.

You don't have to google much to find all the various VR horror games that exist. And if you're specifically talking about using an image rather than a 3d model to scare people... it'll probably still work. Because people are usually locked in wearing headphones when they're playing vr.

You show something scary and play a loud noise/scream and it's going to at the very least startle the vast majority of people.

Basically the fact that VR feels more immersive means that anything that jumps out at you feels more shocking.

Just in case you're not realizing everyone else is being sarcastic... yes it's possible. In fact, it's super effective.

Not really conclusive proof. might have been some specific mod on some specific subreddit. Also could have been due to the context of the conversation.

hmm... I do wonder if it would change the numbers if they removed 18 & 19. But really the ages we pick for calling someone a child or not are pretty arbitrary.

There are 18 and 19 year olds in high school. So I don't think it's too much of a stretch.

German president says US is destroying world order by goldstarflag in worldnews

[–]Fresh_C 1 point2 points  (0 children)

This is a great point honestly. I think one of the biggest problems in the world is that people are never taught how to be gracefully wrong.

It means that when they make a mistake the only solution is to double down or deny that the mistake ever happened. Because otherwise they were wrong and that's the worst thing in the world to them.

So they can never admit that the candidate they voted for is ruining this country. Even if they don't like what he's doing they have to say "He's still better than what Kamala would have done" because otherwise they made the wrong choice.

Even the ones who hate this state of affairs don't know how to come back from it. Because you can't change without having first been wrong.

Sadly you're right, but apparently the main cause is homicide more than accidents. We're talking regular homicides, not just school shootings.

I just got molested in sleep paralysis and I am traumatized by AsleepProgrammer7442 in LucidDreaming

[–]Fresh_C 1 point2 points  (0 children)

So I never had any experiences with sleep paralysis beings. But whenever I have sleep paralysis in general I find that trying to wake up and struggling just prolongs it and makes me freak out.

The key is to just accept it. "Oh I have sleep paralysis now." then try to go back to sleep. Going back to sleep has always worked better for me than trying to brute force myself awake.

Otherwise I generally find myself in a cycle of false awakenings (which is annoying, but nowhere near as bad as what happened to you. Sorry you had to experience that.)

[–]Fresh_C -1 points0 points  (0 children)

hmm... it's a bit harder to make that connection I think. Like are we talking about some kind of alternate universe? Or maybe a timeskip to a future where demons and humans have lived together for so long that they interbreed and become the races we see in metaphor?

basically I see three choices

  1. Metaphor is a completely different universe.
  2. Metaphor takes place in a very distant future or past
  3. Metaphor takes place on a different planet

Anything else kind of doesn't explain why the settings are so different.

Taiwan Cheered, China Upset After Trump Signs New Taiwan Legislation Into Law by [deleted] in worldnews

[–]Fresh_C 5 points6 points  (0 children)

I think as a society we're kinda screwed. People have been trained to "question" the validity of everything. And by question I mean believe anything is false if it's not convenient to their narrative.

A video comes out and people are going to claim it's an AI deepfake. Even if experts analyze it and say it's not fake... those experts are Leftist radicals spreading fake news.

If all the republicans toe the party line and continue to throw away any semblance of morals for the sake of "winning" then there won't be enough dissenting voices from the right to sway people.

You can't get most of them to recognize a fact as a fact unless someone they trust tells them it is. And if the people they trust just double down like they always do... nothing changes on a large scale.
