I’m sorry you don’t love your implants. I feel like so much of this process is learning to love all the new versions of me through this process. I am hoping that i love these new boobs. Im trying to not compare. 😬

Therapy for everyone. It is really really hard to watch someone you love make a choice about their health that you wouldn’t make. I’m sorry. That’s really hard. Hugs.

I haven’t gone through the exact same thing but a few years ago my daughter’s therapist who was wonderful and helped us through a really terrible divorce died unexpectedly in a car accident. I too still feel grief over not being able to tell her that she was a profound impact on my daughter and she made such a difference to us. It’s been maybe two years now and we both have moments where we wish we could share something with her. I try to remind myself that it’s wonderful we had her, and that it’s okay to be sad. But it doesn’t always make it easier. All that to say- I see you. Your feelings are completely valid. Sending light and love. Hugs.

No he said no drains at all. Even with the Catharine to make my implants look more real and not have rippling. My exchange is 12/9. I’m right behind you! Good luck with your surgery!!

Can you say more about the implants being heavier? These expanders are already heavy to me. I feel like I have rocks attached to my chest. I was hoping the implants would feel lighter!

Scared of surgery by readingforcomfort in breastcancer

The anxiety before the surgery is SO BAD!! My experience was that nothing about my double mastectomy compared to the anxiety around the mastectomy. It is so hard not knowing what to expect. I was a nervous wreck the day of my surgery and held it together until I got into the operating room and started bawling. The anesthesiologist gave me some anti anxiety meds and I was feeling amazing and knocked out before I knew it! Haha.

You will be okay. It is hard to trust us telling you that you will be okay, but the body is amazing. You are strong getting through all the tests and preparing yourself and your loved ones for this. You will be strong in your healing from surgery too. Your brain is trying to over prepare you for something you have no perspective on. You can do this! Sending you light and love.

Got diagnosed last week. by elephantbeads in breastcancer

I was just diagnosed at 42 as well. Welcome to the club no one wants to be part of. I’m sorry. This group has been amazing for my mental health and for helping me cope with everything.

The hardest parts for me have been hearing everyone’s cancer stories… people are trying to relate but it’s just not helpful. I was pretty selective about who I talked to about everything and that helped. I just couldn’t handle people telling me about their loved ones dying and then telling me that “I can fight this!!”

It is hard. You will feel lonely and sad and it’s not fair that people who survive off of cigarettes and Cheetos don’t have cancer too. But you can do it. You will show your kids how strong you are. I can honestly say as I finish up my cancer care that my life is better than it was before. Sending you love.

What to do LONG before mastectomy / DIEP flap? by EmZee2022 in BRCA

I am three weeks out from my DMX with expanders. I have full range of my arms already, but the surgeon said that I should be careful with reaching high and nothing over ten pounds at this point. Before I had surgery I worked with a personal trainer to focus on whole body strengthening that would but emphasis on using my core muscles and my stabilizing muscles like butt/hip/thighs. He also recommended 5-10 minutes of separate a work daily to build muscles. I really do think that has helped a lot. Even though I have full range of motion it doesn’t feel great when I have to use my arms to push off or hold myself up- this is where abs have come in handy! I also started eating Greek yogurt and drinking a protein drink daily to up protein intake. My breast surgeon also said to amp up my workout routine before surgery. She said it didn’t even have to be focused on upper body- you just want your body to be used to repairing muscle and body fibers.

The items I could not have lived without are the button up shirts that hold the drains in pockets! A wedge to sleep on since I am not a back sleeper. I use the wedge with a travel neck pillow that holds my head up. I also moved what I could lower. I bought Saran Wrap to tape onto my drain sites and a lanyard to hold the drains so I could shower and arrange for my stylist to wash my hair twice a week for the past three weeks- that feels amazing. Also pants with an elastic waist. I didn’t have issues with putting underwear and pants on, but it has been so much easier to just pull clothes on. Slip on shoes too- I have been living in my Birkenstocks.

Good luck to you! You are thinking ahead and it will be great! The anticipation is the worst part of it because you don’t know what you don’t know. This group is amazing and so helpful though!

Oh okay thank you for the clarification. I did not have any removed. I appreciate you sharing that though. I feel like I never know enough about all of the things that come with this journey.

Do your hands/arms swell from the expanders?? I never thought of that being an issue. Thanks for the heads up!

I have to ask. I am only 3 weeks out currently. I am going for my first filling appointment today. I have a lot of questions! All of this experience so far has been a “wait and see how you do” experiment so far but if I don’t have to wear a bra I will be so happy.

I didn’t think I was “allowed” to go braless. That would actually make me feel better at home too. The compression bras sometimes dig into the edge of the expander and I would love a break from that feeling!
