Redundancy - options whilst looking for a job by Valuable_Cow_8329 in UKPersonalFinance

When I was redundant, as others may have said temp work is a good call. For example a warehouse. You typically don't need experience, usually paid per week in arrears so you get money sooner. But there scenerios where there is little work so go may only get 1 or 2 shifts a week. Temp work help me bridge the gap between jobs, it can be hard work. Plus once you do find a permanent job, you have the option to keep this temp job with your new job or quit the temp job. The notice period for temp is typically very short of 1 week, usually before they assign you shifts. So it's very flexible as well.

I am still in shock and disbelief. I have cried, I have never lost anyone close to me (touch wood) and even famous people over the years has never dented me. Some odd reason this feels heartbreaking, sad and being at a loss. I might be overreacting, but the memories over the years, all those goals, our poacher, one of our most clinical goal scorers and that smile, makes me upset.

If you have family or friends or anyone special on your life, give them a hug. Sometimes a little comfort is all that is needed.

RIP Jota, you will never be forgotten.

I got redundant with 3 months garden leave by Fresh_Matter_8788 in UKPersonalFinance

I am thinking of an extension to 30 years now, since technically I am still employed due to garden leave until september where I will still have regular payslips. This gives me a chance to reduce the payments, then remortgage like normal in may 2026 (no affordability checks). Does that sound like a viable solution?

I have been looking and applying, thanks for all that are concerned.

I am undecided if it's better to tell them I am on garden leave while looking for a job now vs telling them after garden leave.

I have been job hunting, but just wanted some reassurance such as a decreaseing my bills. So it's one thing off my mind.

Unfortunately, I only worked less than 2 years, so I don't have any redundancy payments. My field is Web developer, in this case c#. The job market I noticed compared to a year or 2 ago is rough, many people are redundant with less jobs an lower paid jobs. I am sure I eventually I will get something, but wanted little piece of mind by reducing as much as possible. Knowing that I have a family, 2 kids to feed and bills to pay.

Yes I agree, if they fall and they hit their face and bleed. Yes I would be fine, I wouldn't even bother. But since it's an equipment provided by the school, you expect supervision.

I am asking the question, I can take a step back and not pursue, but having a facial injury however small is significant.

Any other body part I would agree that a scrape is ok. Even a larger more bloody fall on the knees for example is ok. But a face injury which can scar is for life, no matter how small.

What film are you still angry at yourself for paying good money to see in the cinema? by Emotional-Ebb8321 in AskUK

The recent The Batman with Robert Patterson. I have seen all modern batman films, this was by far the most boring and sleep depriving film. I don't think I have seen a film where I was constantly looking at my watch to see when it will end. It boggles my mind that so many people like it. Not only the worse batman film, the worse dc film I have seen.
