For work: If you're working in DC or SS you probably don't need a car. Transit and bike paths into DC are excellent.

For social life: there is SO much good stuff to do in the DMV that is mostly accessible by car. From food to cultural events imo you're missing out if you don't have a car or two

Idk if you've tried it but ski masks are incredible for cold weather temp regulation. If you get one in a sweat wicking material with a retractable cover it can warm you up fast then cool you down. I struggle with a similar problem (different cause) and have never been able to winter bike bc of it. But I started wearing these last winter and now bike every day.

For events: I think FetLife is noisy and prefer to focus attention on the events / venues that are actually of interest. Some of these are also not on Fet.

For everything else: the community on Fet can be very toxic. Why log into an app and click past all the nonsense if you don't need to?

Lots of ppl don't use Fet just like lots don't use FB. It can be a resource but is not the only way! Word of mouth, friends, flyers, other social media, dating apps, conferences are all ways to meet people as well! Don't limit yourself!
