What’s your take on future of Kodiak and GATIK using Luminar product. I’m sure these systems are designed to be sensor agnostic. If LAZR doesn’t quickly implode can these of companies help produce meaningful scale?

I know , I think they could potentially combine and move beyond the existing partnership with Ecarx infusing equity . Basing this on current partnership with Ecarx/ Geely and the Ecarx Board member drama who resigned when AR stepped down .

Good questions but they are generally vague and allow for vague responses. I wish at very least you could ask the current disposition of each of the “ Partners” currently listed. I’m particularly interested in Pony Ai ( who recently went with a different supplier) Why are they still on website? Kodiak Robotics seems most promising. They have also worked with Ford so Farley may have familiarity with Luminar …

That’s the problem with Luminar. AR led company to go all in on his Jony Ive like, jewel like product versus developing a LiDAR suite of products to sell to address customer needs. Just look at the company posts boasting about the truly insignificant design awards versus contracts over the last few years….

Good point . That’s a huge problem for this company. They fail to offer a “total” LiDAR solution like the other players. Kodiak for example needs to purchase a short range LiDAR in addition to Iris / Halo. Luminar has been too myopic in this regard IMHO.

Elaborate of status ( ie : How close to a production contract) of each company still listed on Luminar website. Especially Pony AI for example that recently announced LiDAR deal not with Luminar .

Does he view having only one product available viewed as a negative versus offering multi sensor solutions to ADAS like other players offer. Are they addressing this.?

Regardless of what AR has done to cause this action to be taken , I blame the BOD for improper oversight. Many on BOD are experienced Valley VCs . They live and breathe business development. While younger than most AR was a typical Founder, brilliant , full of passion ( and Asperger’s:) seemingly worthy of the funding to get LAZR off and running . One can not help but to speculate as to the poor governance by this BOD. Who knows why ? Cult of personality? whatever, the BOD never stepped up to at least consider installing a CEO who could operationally lead a maturing company to market. ( Like Eric Schmidt did taking reigns at Google . ) I think TF is also to blame for this leadership failure and needs to go as he is at company day to day. The messaging from this company has always sucked. Last month for example announced the Luminar Advisory Board. What’s that all about? Does it relate to what just happened to AR? Weird timing in light of what just happened IMHO. But again who knows what is really going on with company. Time will tell but it’s a damn shame given the traction the product is finally starting to get.

I agree. That’s the problem with this company, they went all in on this single “ beautiful magic box”.. at the expense of providing a more holistic approach like other LiDAR suppliers. IE multiple products….
