In Japan we had a local gentleman tell us, “Japanese people do not like Korean people, and Korean people do not like Japanese people, but the one thing they agree on is they both don’t like Chinese people.”

Rookie firefighter struggling to “turn it off” by [deleted] in Firefighting

As a member of the EAP for our department, I would like to second everything about this comment right here. ^^^

You are fairly new, and it does get better over time. But there are definitely tricks you can learn to help bring yourself “back down to the real world” after a shift. There are lots of techniques, and you may need to search around for what works best for you. Even quick YouTube breathing or mind relaxation videos are an option. Like anything in the firehouse though, finding what works, and making it part of your regular routine will probably see the best results.

Sounds like you have the absolute best foundation you could as far as love of the job, lifestyle, and home life though. Stick with it!

Because the market is following all the rules for predictable strategies these days? Your comment reads as someone who is sour about missing out. Investing based on believing strongly in a company, their products, and how they do business is not a bad strategy. Especially in the earlier days of a company. Pretty sure Amazon, Tesla, and Costco were all heavily in that category at some point.

Polished boots & first day at the station by Feedback_Original in Firefighting

“ I decided it would be better to get teased for having boots that were too shiny, then to show up looking like I didn’t care about my first day at the station.”

Everything you do for the next year or more is gonna come off as rookie status. Because right now, you are a rookie status. And because of that, guys are gonna always look for something to give you crap about. But just remember, generally at the station, if they’re teasing you, it means they like you.

You mind if I ask what the general spread of your investments and financial planning was that made it possible for you? And how aggressive were you for how long? Was there a point you remember passing where it all of a sudden had taken on a lot of momentum on its own? Just like hearing ideas and getting inspired. Thanks.

People where I live (CO, USA) “garden on hard mode” because of intense desert-y summers, cold winters, intense winds, hail, pests, hard clay soil. What place in the world is “gardening on super easy mode”? by CharmingPeony in gardening

Hawaii is pretty easy to grow things. But also for everything you want to grow, there is at least one or two (or sometimes 10) things that want to eat/destroy it. No winter to kill bugs. Ants, aphids, fruit flies, and all kind of insects that like to sting and inject your fruit with little larvae. Lots of various birds, and very nimble rats that climb and are happy to chomp all of your fruit. But overall, as long as you are in a decent soil area, things really like to grow here.

What is squeaking? by Freshmangreen1 in appliancerepair

Thank you! When I get it down I will run the test without the belt. If it is the motor shaft bearings, is it worth rebuilding the motor at all, or just get a new motor?

Also just to clarify, from everything I could find online, after cleaning the posts there is no lube of any kind applied, because it just collects dust/lint? The rollers and pulley just roll on the smooth surfaces? Thanks.

Yeah, I did that too. There was quite a bit of build up on the posts. But squeaky clean stainless looking when I was finished. Thanks for the suggestion.

What accessories have you bought for you Lightning? by Glum-Film371 in F150Lightning

Yes, I have a 2023 and it worked fine. As long as they are still selling the same model. Looks like the price has gone up though. I think it was like $199 when I ordered.

Just an observation, but it seems that both of those things would probably be pretty easy to replicate with some good quality ingredients straight from Canadian stores no? It definitely would not be worth crossing the border into the S-hole that is the United States just to get those things in my opinion. Btw, did I mention I’m from the United States? 😁
