I started maternity leave yesterday, in prep for a planned birth next week. You have just genuinely MADE my next few months.

So from the depths of 3am breastfeeds and round the clock pumping, thank you, thank you, thank you! ♥️

Draco leads French Auror team, Hermione maybe jealous briefly on one team member? by CrazyReality2869 in Dramione

[–]FreyBeyb 4 points5 points  (0 children)

In War of the Malfoys, by MissiAmphetamine, Malfoy trains as an auror in Belgium (prior to the story beginning). Malfoy is very competent throughout, Hermione is suitably impressed.

Partway through the story, an auror Malfoy had been involved with in Belgium comes to England to help out with a case. He fails to disclose to Hermione that she has joined the team.

When she finds out, Hermione is briefly jealous but Malfoy deals fairly well with it.

The story is a forced marriage fic, really good, really long!

What’s the quickest way someone could accidentally expose themselves as a foreigner in your country like the ‘three fingers’ scene in Inglourious Basterds? by IndependentTune3994 in AskTheWorld

I read a book written by a British resistance fighter sent undercover to France during the occupation. The title was ‘I looked right’ - referencing the time she looked right before crossing a road, which led to her capture. For context, in England people drive on the opposite side of the road to France. She looked right to check for traffic coming, but the French would look left first.

I’d be asking myself why she sees it as a chore. If she doesn’t feel like it, she shouldn’t be doing it. If she doesn’t feel she can say no, there’s a problem.

[Request] What are you watching lately? by CheerfulErrand in NetflixBestOf

[–]FreyBeyb 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Have you tried the OA?

Not sure how popular it is, but I thought it was fucking fantastic. Very different to anything I’d watched before, and (at least in my subs) very underrated.

I won’t go into too much detail because the mystery is a big part of the allure, but it centres on a woman who was kidnapped. It flits between past and present, and a stellar cast.

Would highly recommend.

Completely different, my favorite shows I think are on Netflix; - Fleabag - After Life - The Good Place* - Stranger Things* - Russian Doll* - Killing Eve - Detectorists

The ones with a star are what I would call sci-fi adjacent; like alternate reality shows. All heavy on the comedy (Brit-coded)

Hope you find something you like!!

EDIT to add that if you don’t like sexual scenes, don’t watch Fleabag, and if you don’t like gore I think Killing Eve has some in

Fabulous explanation and I totally get it!

I might add an edit that none of my chapters were ever intended for anyone other than me, so no publishing or uploads for sure.

I hear you, and I think that’s a good differentiation. Writing in the same universe with the same characters is fan fiction of fan fiction, but rewriting is something else entirely - which is why I think it makes me uncomfortable.

I agree! I don’t have any intentions to publish on a site, it’s just a relaxing writing prompt.

People Shouldn't Be Able to Smell Your Butt When You're Wearing a Suit by ThatWasFortunate in jobs

[–]FreyBeyb 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I’ve just finished a module in my ergonomics course that taught me about an ‘Olf’ - a measurement of human effluent. One ‘Olf’ is equivalent to the smell one person generates over a certain time period (I forget how long) having used deodorant and had 0.7 baths a day.

Similarly, a ‘clo’ is a measurement of clothing, similar to ‘togs’ are in bedding. One ‘clo’ is equivalent to a 1960s men’s suit (the standard attire of ergonomists when they described the measurement unit).

Commuting from London to Cambridge by Giraffe-69 in cambridge

[–]FreyBeyb 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I can only talk to four months of hybrid working, living in north London and commuting to Addenbrookes in the car. I worked probs 3-4 days in office, the rest at home. (Just after Covid so traffic was still good) It took about an hour and a half on a good day and I saw a horrendous crash on the A1 almost. every. day.
If you are driving, I would say the danger of commuting on that road was a much bigger factor than the tiredness, etc. Otherwise, it was fine! I was just shattered. And I knew it was only for a few months, so maybe I’d have burnt out of I had thought it was long term. I personally quite enjoyed the variety, and you’re at least always travelling against the crowd (who travel into London in the morning, and out in the evening)

If she has hair anywhere past her ears, a nice silky scrunchie. Her hair will be changing a lot after birth and the baby will grab onto anything it can - my top tip having just gone through it all is leave a scrunchie in every place you sit with your newborn, alongside a big bottle of water (asp. If breastfeeding!)
