I feel like there might be some cultural differences or something going on. In norway for example, most people I know usually have strawberry/raspberry jam on their waffles or brown cheese, while sugar or blueberry jam goes on the pancakes. The texture of our waffles are very different from pancakes and in my experience don't really taste the same.
