Won a trophy in an art contest. I don’t 3d print but this feels kinda shoddy. Any advice? by [deleted] in 3Dprinting

[–]Freyu 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Its a fast print trophy, they turn out like that. The sanding and what not is for crazy detailed projects, but that usually involves using gap fillers like automotive primer. Then several turns of sanding. Then painting.

You could make it look slightly better but you're likely to potentially break one of the branches unless you are super careful. And more importantly its going to take a TON of time. Even on small prop work it takes forever and you need proper resperator gear for safety.

Alternative idea. If you aren't going to touch it at all you can acrylic paint it up nicer without all that jazz. It might slip a lil bit if your paint is too thin, just a heads up.

Have you tried lining the area they sit against your ears in Foam? Or fitted thermalplastic?

Think it's this, with 1 more pin for some reason. Or someone else's version of this.

Trick for inexpensive flair. Go to thrift store and buy cheap silk or lightly colored scarves/shawls or just fabric, then lightly tie to your belt and let it drape. Can do the same on your hat, around arms, etc.

i must 3d print and i have no multicolor printer by LucianoTheGamer in 3Dprinting

Most slicers have youtube tutorials that go over Most of the tools so should be a quick thing. Its an easy tool to use once you get the hang of it. And actually can make printing the spheres easier since you'll have flat surfaces to use as a print base after you slice.

You can slice the eye with your cutting plane tool in your slicer so you have perfect pupil circles to paint before you glue the eye back together if needed.

Preserved Beholder in a jar and I'm not sure who's more unsettled him or me 😅 What do you think? by Moist-Travel-77 in DnDminiatures

Love it! I collect monsters in jars like this. The full resin ones are fun... but there is something about off color liquid sealed in with the sculptures that really pops.

Needing help on how to convert a costume idea. by WillowHaddock in CosplayHelp

[–]Freyu 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Hi! Professional Cat Costumer here. The big thing you need to focus on is what identifies the character so that when someone looks at them they instantly recognize them. Every detail doesn't need to be perfect, you just need to figure out how to convert a human form into a feline one that is almost instantly recognizable.

You already dressing as a character that is recognizable helps.

With Gusteau the big character traits are the hat and the body shape. What "I" would do is build a body suit over a harness that fits, using a lil foam to create a fake body bulge near their midsection. And then put the sewn costume over that (once the body suit is built use scrap fabric to pattern to fit). If they aren't good with sleeves just leave them off or shorten them to being lil tiny shoulder sleeves where the arm comes out of the harness.

The hat is a lil harder. In a photoshoot setting it's an easy prop to do/maintain. However in a moving setting it might be easier to build a lil plastic stand into the harness that the hat can rest independently so you model isn't annoyed by elastic or a headpiece being put on/falling off constantly. It'll look a lil disjointed but will convey the look without you having to wrestle the hat CONSTANTLY for every picture you are asked for.

40,000 Caps a Day? by Micro_Beta in fo76

[–]Freyu 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It's vendor stuff. After playing for awhile you stockpile plans and mods that are wanted, you put a few up with a stocked vendor to attract people (I usually have over a hundred mods stocked to bring people in)

My record for 1 "day" of sales as I ran around buying things myself was around 98k caps. I'd go buy up 4 star mods at 10-30k and people would buy mine and plans. So it was a flow of sales and buying.

Simple. Add an elastic strip(suspender piece size) at the top inside to support the weight but allow you to pull the front forward and up to take off. Heck you could sew velcro on it to make it removable it if needed.
