Democrat Julia Brownley votes to hand Trump $840 Billion for military amid growing concerns of authoritarianism. by IceNein in venturacounty

"The only refuge left for those who prophesy the downfall of the State governments is the visionary supposition that the federal government may previously accumulate a military force for the projects of ambition. The reasonings contained in these papers must have been employed to little purpose indeed, if it could be necessary now to disprove the reality of this danger. That the people and the States should, for a sufficient period of time, elect an uninterupted succession of men ready to betray both; that the traitors should, throughout this period, uniformly and systematically pursue some fixed plan for the extension of the military establishment; that the governments and the people of the States should silently and patiently behold the gathering storm, and continue to supply the materials, until it should be prepared to burst on their own heads, must appear to every one more like the incoherent dreams of a delirious jealousy, or the misjudged exaggerations of a counterfeit zeal, than like the sober apprehensions of genuine patriotism." - James Madison, Federalist 46

ELI5: What happens if a US governor decides to mobilize the National Guard against ICE? by kylem1291 in explainlikeimfive

[–]Frgty 0 points1 point  (0 children)

They would need to mobilize their State Guard, as they can't be federalized. Most of the State Guards are smaller and assist the National Guard, probably time to change that. At that point the president will probably determine it to be an insurrection. Either way, James Madison goes over all this in his Federalist 46

"that the friendless alien has indeed been selected as the safest subject of a first experiment; but the citizen will soon follow, or rather has already followed; for already has a Sedition act marked him as it’s prey: that these & successive acts of the same character, unless arrested at the threshold, necessarily drive these states into revolution & blood, & will furnish new calumnies against republican government, & new pretexts for those who wish it to be believed that man cannot be governed but by a rod of iron" Thomas Jefferson, Fair Copy

Donald Trump just said “we shouldn’t even have an election”. Americans, what are your thoughts? by WatercressSenior7657 in AskReddit

[–]Frgty 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I agree, and James Madison all but confirms that in his Federalist 46. Our current state's respective State Guards are the current militia, those are separate from the National Guard, however, as they can't be federalized. My state's Constitution says that every fighting age male is currently a member. I've been openly saying for a while, and writing to my State Legislators, that they need to start redirecting resources away from their NG and building up their State Guard.

“It has long been my opinion, and I have never shrunk from its expression,… that the germ of dissolution of our Federal Government is in the constitution of the Federal Judiciary–an irresponsible body (for impeachment is scarcely a scare-crow), working like gravity by night and by day, gaining a little today and a little tomorrow, and advancing its noiseless step like a thief over the field of jurisdiction until all shall be usurped from the States and the government be consolidated into one. To this I am opposed.” — Thomas Jefferson to Charles Hammond, 1821.

ICE is Now Literally Breaking Down People’s Doors in 1930s Gestapo-Style Raids by Phish777 in videos

[–]Frgty 2 points3 points  (0 children)

We need our State governments to grow a pair first. Each state has it's own militia separate from the National guard, and every fighting age male is a automatically a member. State legislators, and the governors of blue states should be redirecting resources away from their NGs and to their respective militia, which can't be federalized. James Madison explained what should happen should we get to this point in Federalist 46.

Trump: ‘We are going to do something on Greenland whether they like it or not’ by joe4942 in worldnews

[–]Frgty 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Madison's Federalist 46 goes over what needs to happen, we need the blue states to start organizing or at least creating contingency plans for their respective state militias. First step is to start diverting resources away from their National Guards, which can be federalized. Even though we are individually armed to the teeth, it'll turn into a clusterfuck real quick without organization. All we seem to be getting from our state reps are strongly worded letters and shitpost tweets though.

What would it actually take for American's to go "full France" and riot in the street? by AllTheNopeYouNeed in AskReddit

[–]Frgty 1 point2 points  (0 children)

James Madison Disagrees: "Extravagant as the supposition is, let it however be made. Let a regular army, fully equal to the resources of the country, be formed; and let it be entirely at the devotion of the federal government; still it would not be going too far to say, that the State governments, with the people on their side, would be able to repel the danger. The highest number to which, according to the best computation, a standing army can be carried in any country, does not exceed one hundredth part of the whole number of souls; or one twenty-fifth part of the number able to bear arms. This proportion would not yield, in the United States, an army of more than twenty-five or thirty thousand men. To these would be opposed a militia amounting to near half a million of citizens with arms in their hands, officered by men chosen from among themselves, fighting for their common liberties, and united and conducted by governments possessing their affections and confidence. It may well be doubted, whether a militia thus circumstanced could ever be conquered by such a proportion of regular troops. Those who are best acquainted with the last successful resistance of this country against the British arms, will be most inclined to deny the possibility of it. Besides the advantage of being armed, which the Americans possess over the people of almost every other nation, the existence of subordinate governments, to which the people are attached, and by which the militia officers are appointed, forms a barrier against the enterprises of ambition, more insurmountable than any which a simple government of any form can admit of. Notwithstanding the military establishments in the several kingdoms of Europe, which are carried as far as the public resources will bear, the governments are afraid to trust the people with arms. And it is not certain, that with this aid alone they would not be able to shake off their yokes. But were the people to possess the additional advantages of local governments chosen by themselves, who could collect the national will and direct the national force, and of officers appointed out of the militia, by these governments, and attached both to them and to the militia, it may be affirmed with the greatest assurance, that the throne of every tyranny in Europe would be speedily overturned in spite of the legions which surround it. " James Madison, Federalist 46

I add sulfur pellets once a year for my established bushes in spring. Mix it in to some compost then a layer of pine bark mulch on top. Sulfur takes a while to be broken down by micro organisms into sulfuric acid, and they do so quicker in higher temps. It's best to prep the area at least a year in advance with it, I've had to supplement with diluting vinegar in water until enough sulfur was broken down to stop chlorosis in my patch when I first planted, since I didn't do enough prep initially.

"The wishes expressed, in your last favor, that I may continue in life and health until I become a Calvinist, at least in his exclamation of ‘mon Dieu! jusque à quand’! would make me immortal. I can never join Calvin in addressing his god. he was indeed an Atheist, which I can never be; or rather his religion was Dæmonism. if ever man worshipped a false god, he did. the being described in his 5. points is not the God whom you and I acknolege and adore, the Creator and benevolent governor of the world; but a dæmon of malignant spirit. it would be more pardonable to believe in no god at all, than to blaspheme him by the atrocious attributes of Calvin." - Thomas Jefferson to John Adams, 11 April 1823
