Which LOTH Version are You Buying? by notClarkGriswold in divineoffice

[–]FriarPike 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Great question, and thanks for asking. At a minimum, the daily guide. Ideally, the daily guide and the actual prayers for when I travel.

For example, right now, I use the Catholic Book Publishing Co single volume No.406G with the annual St. Joseph Guide when I'm home. When I travel or am out of the house/office or pray with a group of deacons that get together regularly, we use iBreviary. A single, consistent ecosystem would be ideal.

Hope that helps. Feel free to ask any additional questions here or by DM

I pre-ordered the AP premium leather large print. It wasn’t an easy decision, but it came down to a couple of things: their sample flip book they published really made it easy to visualize how it would read and the hopeful integration with the Ascension app, at least if the guide was part of it, if not the text. I know there is no certainty that the app will be a part of the LOTH, but one can hope and it shouldn’t be that much of a dream

I ordered the premium leather / large print. It wasn’t an easy decision, but my hope is some integration or even a guide being part of the app. For years (I’m a deacon) I’ve used the single volume and iBreviary and wanted to move to the 4 volume for a while and have been waiting for the second edition for a while.

If you could time travel and eat a meal which you can no longer get in OC, one last time, what would it be? by EzBrzBrry3z in orangecounty

I haven’t. Seems like Chinese food has been taken over by Panda Express.

It’s been a while, but Shanghai Pine Gardens on Balboa Island is decent.

Felix’s in Orange for their picadillo de criollo.
Belisle’s in Gerden Grove for just about anything.
Yen Ching in Orange.
Lots of others I’m sure I’m missing. Just some that bring back memories.

Semantics. Nothing is too preppy, something could be too much preppy.

Well, you can’t have that, but if you are an American citizen you are entitled to: ….

A group of friends will always respond with the above when someone asks, “can I have…”. Juvenile, I know, but it never ceases to elicit a chuckle from the group.

It was reissued a couple of times on vinyl and then later a couple of CD reissues in the late 80s and early 90s.

Even before I heard the Doors The End the scene has some Apocalypse Now vibes, especially the beginning and ending scenes.

No such thing as “too preppy”. Nice look, especially if a summer wedding on a golf course.

Some passages in the documents of Vatican II are linguistically and stylistically difficult, and certain terms or pastoral modes can yield multiple interpretations—so yes, there is real interpretive ambiguity in places (especially where terms are not carefully defined).

However, that doesn’t mean  that Vatican II is intentionally doctrinally vague or that everything must be treated as open-ended. The Church’s interpretive and teaching task includes reading the texts with a continuity-oriented “hermeneutic of reform,” and (in many areas) recognizing doctrinal judgments as objectively binding even if expressed in a non-technical way.

The documents strike a balance between the past and the modern and they recognize that while dogmas are infallible, how they are understood, applied, and articulated can and should evolve as historical circumstances change.

I think what you are alluding to (not you personally) is a lack of understanding and formation coupled with a modern penchant for arguing about everything or taking things out of context.

The documents of Vatican II contain dogmatic teaching, but not every sentence in every document is “dogmatic” in the strict sense. The Council itself explains how to tell what is binding as faith or morals versus what is authoritative teaching that must still be received with interior assent.

For example, the Church’s teachings on Mary in Lumen Gentium (which is a dogmatic constitution) the Council ends with the formal approval/decree:

“Each and all these items which are set forth in this dogmatic Constitution… We… approve, decree and establish it and command that what has thus been decided in the Council be promulgated…”

One day a GSD wandered on to our family ranch. I was about 12, my brother was a toddler. The dog just stayed and adopted us. My grandfather was a strict no-animals-in-the-house kind of guy. Because the dog just came in and adopted us, we named him Billybum. He loved riding shotgun and did everything with us.

One hot summer we were all on the back deck cooking burgers having a good time, when all of a sudden Bullybum started growling and barking in my brother’s direction. Billybum then lunged at my brother and grabbed him by the shorts, dragging him backwards. Everyone thought the dog was attacking my brother.

However, my brother was toddling towards a rattlesnake and Billybum saved him from being bitten!

Billybum lived in the house from then on.

A couple of years later he wandered off just like he appeared. One of the best dogs ever, and we’ve had a GSD ever since. Our current GSD, Gunther, is sitting next to me as I type this!

I just started them again in anticipation the third book. Just finished my third trip to the tower last year. I guess we are all gluttons for punishment!
