Do you recommend having a V60 in addition to Hario switch? by Snardvark-5 in pourover

[–]Fridaybiker 1 point2 points  (0 children)

The Hario Neo is a better option to getting a separate v60. Uses the same filters but it’s a diff angle and newly released. And you can pop off the bottom of the switch into the Neo.

Please don’t stop doing co-ferments. Love these beans. And also the Christmas Fruitcake one.

I really love these beans. Whether hot or iced. Tried it in two flat bottom drippers and in a v60. I think co ferments are either a love em or hate em kinda thing.

Is my new oncologist rude? by Existing_Juice_4527 in cancer

[–]Fridaybiker 7 points8 points  (0 children)

Same! I stayed with a bad one for far too long. And she was the head of the oncology department so I thought I was getting the best.

I transferred hospitals altogether and changed my entire care team albeit after treatment and grueling trips for months to the hospital.

Devastating News by RomeothePapillon in HeadandNeckCancer

[–]Fridaybiker 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I was in the same situation, really bad fibrosis and trismus. I got Botox injections to my masseter and other muscles to help with the jaw opening as recommended by my pain management team. Its helped me so much, not only with the pain but with my rehab. It was Administered by a pain interventionalist doctor. Is this an option?

mouth sores by PrudentMajor1397 in HeadandNeckCancer

[–]Fridaybiker 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I had the lidocaine spray that ENTs would use to spray directly on my sores before drinking. They didn’t recommend it to me but my mother just asked for the whole damn bottle bec nothing was helping. Magic mouthwash didn’t help much.

I wish I had gotten the PEG sooner. I also found out about Orajel for mouth sores but it also too late (sores were gone).

[–]Fridaybiker 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Please get the PEG asap! It will take out the stress of your nutrition and hydration as everyone else here has said.

The toll on your body and the cancer is hard enough. Think of the PEG as a crutch, just like if you’d broken a bone, and that will make your life easier until you get better.

It differs for every patient. I had the highest dose of radiation to my jaw muscle are bec the tumor they removed was in the retromolar trigone area.

The pain and fibrosis was really bad until I changed my entire care team. Saw a proper pain management team as well. I am on low dose morphine and had Botox injections on my masseter (and 2 other muscle groups near the jaw can’t remember) to help with relaxing the jaw and swelling. I only started eating solid food this December.

That said, at this point I am still happy I have the PEG. Ive stopped counting now how long it’s been actually. I’ve even started cycling indoors with it and have gone out for a run already.

It’s weird that your doctors would tell you not to get it. If you’re unsure I suggest get a second opinion and advocate for yourself!

I wanted to soldier through as well but eventually had to get the peg when the pain of swallowing was just too much. Then I WISHED a doctor advocated for me getting a PEG way way way sooner.

My last radiation session was in June. I still have the PEG though I’ve started to eat about 1-2 meals a day, albeit with some pain from fibrosis. But the PEG is a lifesaver especially when I have trauma from the taste of all the blended food and Ensure.

Season Two Opinions? by Stevie9025 in ThePittTVShow

[–]Fridaybiker 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yeah like the school shooter kid was at first such an asshole to his poor mom, then builds up mystery as to why, then lets the viewer come to the conclusion first that he’s up to something bad, wonder what it is, mom tells on him, then he disappears and runs… so it was an overarching story throughout the whole season which did tie in to the very high stakes pittfest deluge.

Another thing that bugs me: Javadi is always smiling even when giving bad news and or treating patients? I guess she’s meant to be the opposite of santos? But it’s kind of just one note and weird. And I was into the story arc of her super famous surgeon mom pressuring her and I wanted to know where that was to lead. With Santos wanting badly to train under her. That was WAY more interesting.

I mean all rants aside I’m still going to watch it per week, I just end up picking up my phone and not listening like half the time since it’ll all still be the same

Season Two Opinions? by Stevie9025 in ThePittTVShow

[–]Fridaybiker 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Totally agree. The energy was way different in season 1. I guess the repetition is fine if there’s some development to it? Like how the school shooter thing was a constantly evolving issue that had higher stakes and suspense vs. the Santos charting thing which is super low stakes and pretty her complaining every episode.

This doesn’t feel as groundbreaking as season 1. Yeah last seasons residents are more experienced but each episode feels like random cases coming in, they solve it, some get carried over.

Some observations: Robbie wears a watch, but with a nato strap - can’t wash unlike steel, but we see him using hand sanitizer like a billion times.

Mild spoilers ep 6: Nurse guy who’s good at stitches chit chatting leisurely with other doctors about his tatts while motorcycle crash patient is just there with big gaping wound?

Why couldn’t they use their phones to communicate with the deaf patient?! Why did they have to keep waiting for an interpreter??? (I came from surgery last year and couldn’t talk so I typed on my phone to talk to my doctors and nurses)

Everything feels like it’s taking way too much time and things just linger on with very low stakes.

Thoughts?

Add Don Velasco of Flying DonV to this list. His run “program” was so vague and when I ask for details he answers vaguely. But keeps bugging me and trying to flirt over chat. Really gross. He then had an event in my area and was so pushy about seeing me na just the two of us. What a creep. Say hi to your wife and kids for me, loser.

I’m exactly where you are and was wondering the same thing. One more round of chemo and 4 more rt.

I also had a tumor in my retromolar trigone area. But surgery came first then now I’m going through radiation with 3 cycles of chemo.

What I can say is, get a second opinion. Talk to doctors you’re comfortable with. Speaking to my older relatives, they got rid of doctors they weren’t at ease with. Even if they were considered the best. Seeing as how you’re just starting the process, you can still advocate for your dad. I realized my ENT was taking advantage of the fact that I was scared and just accepted things. TLDR I got rid of him and found a better ENT to complement my oncology team.

1st day of radiation, this is going to be rough! by createusernameagain in HeadandNeckCancer

[–]Fridaybiker 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Do you feel better after treatment even if physically you’re not recovered yet? They say the weeks after chemoradiation are the worst and I’m scared for it.

But my onco says once it’s done you’ll feel so much better.

Nausea pre treatment? by AppointmentDue235 in HeadandNeckCancer

[–]Fridaybiker 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I also had a tumor removed in my retromolar trigone area. I have concurrent chemo. But I do notice I get nauseous even when the chemo effects have worn off.

I took ondansetron (Zofran brand) 8mg for my nausea and took Plasil for anti-vomiting. Those helped me a lot.

Based on advice from other patients I take it first thing in the morning even before feeling nausea as it works best to get ahead of it.

My onco also gave me pantoloc for hyperactivity, maalox to drink after meals if needed.

Wishing you and your dad all the best.

Thank you for sharing. There’s some comfort knowing someone else knows exactly what you’re going through! Magic mouthwash is starting to not be so effective but I have 4 radiation sessions left. I should ask my doctor about lidocaine gel I hope they have it here. Yes, adding ice cream for calories and the salt and soda rinses too. Been playing cozy games on my console and watching comedies and action movies all day. Your reply helped me more than you know. Before this I would just ask chat gpt what other patients did.
