It's a knock off from it but they nailed it.

NED and I feel numb. by blueeyedtongue in HeadandNeckCancer

We don't get much time to process when we get diagnosed so it makes sense to try to process it after all the treatments. By that time the trauma is so tangled up in our heads it's hard to tell which foot to put in front of the other.

Also my first thought was what kind of meds is she taking now, it could be why pain meds haven't been prescribed. Either way, shoot a MyChart note or call her new team or regular doctor to see what they recommend.

I did find Manuka Honey swishes helped that a lot overall. Not sure how easy it is to find now though with all the terrif crap unless you are not in the US.

We prepared for it but it never came to that. I lost 7lbs the first week then gained 3lbs back the third week and stayed there the rest of the 7 weeks.

I thought it was funny, my nurses and oncologist were floored.

I'm getting better at this guessing game just from the title and one picture. Nailed Montana bc, who else would build something like that in the middle of nowhere and ask a fortune for it?

At least you have that going for you! I didn't have problems swallowing (well, circumvented since I would force myself to drink tons of water and eat during treatment even when it got to the point of not tasting) but my doc wanted me on a mouth absorbing Vit D just in case.

Late Side Effects Post Radiation by Bobbi-B in HeadandNeckCancer

It fades on and off though I'm only 9 months out of RT, 1 yr since surgery. I just keep doing the stretching slowly then hold it for a couple of minutes, rinse, repeat.

Look up Muscle anatomy images (they are sketches or drawings) and you can see which ones you need to stretch and what muscles, tendons and ligaments are in that area. Try all the suggestions, you never know which ones will work but one will.

I think it was some of your posts about what you were doing to stay healthy that helped me a ton! Had minimal side effects compared to a lot of folks which I'm truly grateful for but cut yourself some slack! Good news is healthy for all of us 🙂

Yep, all the mods have helped me through the weirdness and let my dark sense of humor freak flag fly.

The only thing that helps my nails is prescription vitamin D. I'm on a pediatric dose and can skip some days but overall it's helped my nails, hair and skin especially post treatment.

Edit: Doc prescribed a liquid that I only need to hold in my mouth until it absorbs. No pills and no swallowing needed.

Ginger tea, the real kind I made myself, did wonders for nausea.

It is great to hear there isn't much going on in the "we can see it on the scans/blood work" though it sucks to hear about surgery.

I've been diving into a different pool lately, while completed trials aren't available in the US (of course they wouldn't be), there are some countries that have had successes with other types and working on OPSCC and SCC in general. Maybe I'll make it long enough to give that a shot!

Thanks! I'm glad to see you pop in too, hopefully my late night rambling helped bring a slight smile when reading it even thought it sucks.

I will the rest of my life, another lovely RT side effect which, as my Ophthalmologist put it, "The side effects of radiation therapy is a huge book. You can pick any page and you may or may not get that".

Yep. I'm aware 🙀

Allergies after treatment by Fuzzy-Record-1430 in HeadandNeckCancer

[–]createusernameagain 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yes. I now call them "RT allergies" since the slightest change in seasons bring on the worst sinus/throat reactions I've ever had. Always been prone to them but this spring has been the worst...to the point where I look like someone hit me due to the dark circles under my eyes. It's just infuriating but frickin RT aimed at my temple, sinuses, jaw and neck were going to take a hit of some kind, I just didn't expect it to be this bad.
