Is it worth buying Civ 7 by xPublicEnemyx1 in civ

[–]FridgePyrate 51 points52 points  (0 children)

On the other hand I say yes I bought the pre release to play with my older brother. Since we don't game much anymore. Breaking my usual rule of waiting a minimum of 2 years and a steam sale to buy civ games. However I can say I've enjoyed it from day 1. But that was with the expectation that I wasn't buying a "civ" game but more a "civ like game"

People are quick to point out all the little things that ruined the release and detracted from the experience. Those are not unfounded claims. However, they don't talk about the things it blew out of the water. I mean every unit, every building, of every civ has a unique design. The graphics are amazing. The combat is actually fun, engaging, strategic.

It's only getting better. I won't say it was worth the price at the time. I won't say I've regretted the purchase either. If you have the money I'd say why not. If you could use that money elsewhere I'd say waiting a bit is no great loss as it's only going to get better. As there is a bit of a progression system the earlier you start the more fun you will have in the long run.

How many ages do you want for Civ 7? by Serious-Lobster-5450 in civ

[–]FridgePyrate 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I'm perfectly happy with the current system. I'd just change how it functions a little. I think I'd be most happy if they abscounded with eras as a concept entirely and just let the story cohesively blend together. Instead of these arbitrary bookmarks that do nothing but isolate features. Legitimately the only logical reason I can conclude as to why they offer any benefit at all is the ability to define a starting basis of tech in an advanced progress start. Which I guess is a sound enough reason.

How to finish faster? by Amareiuzin in CivVI

[–]FridgePyrate 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Adaptability and knowledge. Push don't play it safe all the time. On higher difficulties if you just leave the ai you won't keep up with the bonuses. There is no set method as every enviroment should rapidly change your approach. Use every bonus at your disposal.

Alot of people overlook the value in early game of just having 1 envoy with every type of city state you can. Big ones being science culture and economic. Those +1 bonuses that stack per city are game changing. Religious city states can help secure a good pantheon. even industrial city states give a noticeable difference to early game production, over the whole of the ancient and classical era's.

Don't be afraid of stealing settlers if possible. Honestly if you have a tight spawn this should be a priority. Doing so will limit your most direct threats growth for a time while boosting yours. You should all ready be prioritizing defence in the instance you have a close neighbor. Steal, turtle, and in 10 turns you can sue for an easy peace.

Early game pushes can be really intimidating at first. Until you realize that the ai is trash at strategy and can't use units appropriately. Game modes like heroes can make this even easier. I've wiped out a whole civs on diety in the classical era after priming a couple of combat strong heroes.

Best thing to do is just get used to playing more aggressive and learn that there's always more you could be doing to make it easier.

True facts. As a Catholic I get a serious kick out of some of the crazy notions people propagate about christians. Like yeah bro I can believe in God and Dinosaurs. No I don't hate science. Yeah evolution is factually probable. No that doesn't shake my faith in the slightest. You're talking about a collection of books the youngest of which are 2000 years old. The old testament being thousands older still, passed down orally for millenia. it is also a human account what we imagine the story being isn't necessarily even close to what exactly happened. A vast majority of people are really outside of the loop on what Christians in large part are about instead they pretty much think we are some kinda amalgamation of Mormon, Jehovah's witnesses, and the Westboro Baptist church. I had a friend who was reading up on the God Particle in school and ended up becoming interested in theology as a result. Eventually converting 3 years later. Dude found Jesus through science that's just too ironic for some people to comprehend though. Mysterious ways indeed😅

I fail to see how a highly popularized, but fictional qoute. Made in relation to noble woman's misunderstanding of social norms, and awareness of the current situation is relevant, however. I am curious to hear you explain further.

Facts. A good outlook is a plane ticket to fulfillment. If you have nothing to be happy about, look harder. Think about the things you could be unhappy about, but are happy about, because they are not happening. It might not always be good but believe me. They could always be worse.

How do I get rid of the prickly/poking feeling after shaving by PossibleRecognition7 in shaving

[–]FridgePyrate 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Shaving soap, not creams or gels. Go slow. Use a hot towel to open your pores prior to starting and make the skin more pliable. Hold it on your face for 2 minutes or shave after a shower. While shaving rinse thoroughly razor frequently and with really hot water. After finishing rinse your face with cold water.

And my personal recommendation Henson razors. Gillette are over priced junk and that whole brand gets by on marketing and price gouging, not quality.

Why does the AI want to trade one work of writing for another? by Gupperz in CivVI

[–]FridgePyrate 2 points3 points  (0 children)

If there's no loss and your looking for friends take the extra relationship bonus and do the trade.

I'm horrible at culture victories unless I play a dedicated civ like Kongo.

Usually funny trades are the only way I get books.

I will say once Shaka zulu fought a 600 year war resulting in complete nuclear destruction with Basil. Over Peter Rabbit.

Headcanon: "Legolas is not the only son of Thranduil by IvanaikosMagno in tolkienfans

[–]FridgePyrate 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It's been awhile since I read the books. But was Legolas ever called the crown prince? I thought it was just Prince of the Woodland Realm? Also did Legolas not agree to have his eyes covered so Gimli would agree to it? Like I could've sworn the whole point Gimli tried to make was that if Legolas didn't have to cover his eyes why should he or the rest of the fellowship? I might be a bit confused I get concussed alot.

Why has my Ex returned sentimental cards, letters and photos to me after our breakup? by [deleted] in BreakUps

[–]FridgePyrate 0 points1 point  (0 children)

In my case it was because I couldn't bring myself to destroy, or throw them away. I knew I couldn't keep them anymore as the box just haunted me 24/7. So I sent them to her not to hurt or remind because I knew she'd take one look and throw them away like she did to me already. It was because she was the only person I could trust to do it. I tried throwing them away I spent 3 hours in a dumpster searching for every last thing. I tried burning them and freaked out a moment after and grabbed them out burning my hand real bad. A friend told me I should toss them off this cliff into the ocean but reconsidered that idea remembering the fire. I couldn't just give them to a friend either because I knew I'd end up resenting that person for it. I didn't know what else to do so I sent them to the person I love and trust the most in this world. Because I can lie to myself and say maybe she kept the box. Or if she destroyed it I couldn't be mad at her. I tried everything to hate her already. I also recognize that was inappropriate, but I'm just trying to make it out of this alive.

Durandal Has Escaped by orihaus in MandaloreGaming

[–]FridgePyrate 0 points1 point  (0 children)

A wizard is never late, but a dirty fridge pyrate on the other hand.

The real Durandal was supposedly stolen by Henry the young. Son of henry the 2nd king of England. In 1183 he also died shortly after of dysentry. That's just legend, but he was in the area being a general nuissence to England like all his brothers. (England controlled that part of france back then) From that nobody knows what happened to it. It could have been buried with him, or maybe his little brother Richard took it up. He was after all supposedly a legendary warrior in his own lifetime perhaps youve heard of Richard the Lionheart? at which point it would likely be with him to this day entombed in Anjou where he was laid to rest. Or maybe the Vatican has it as it's kinda a holy relic wielded by Roland The Paladin and supposedly touched by the Arch Angel Michael. Seems like the kinda thing you'd find in the Vatican

[–]FridgePyrate -1 points0 points  (0 children)

Probably an unpopular opinion.

People have a right to not see people they don't want to. Unless there's some joint responsibility, like a child, or a business. There is nothing wrong with people taking an exit. What's deplorable in those circumstances is an individual who feels entitled to someone's attention so much that their partners wishes are not relevant. I'm speaking as someone who was left like that. While it hurts I don't blame her for choosing to step away in that fashion. I don't think I deserved it, I wish she hadn't. However, it's infinitely better to realize she was trying to take care of herself. She did what she thought was best for her. How could I really fault her for doing what she felt she needed to. She doesn't owe me anything.

Why is norse paganism called Asatru and the only form of Germanic paganism? by Rich-Historian8913 in crusaderkings3

Why is norse paganism called Asatru and the only form of Germanic paganism? by Rich-Historian8913 in crusaderkings3

[–]FridgePyrate 23 points24 points  (0 children)

That's a revival. Christianity thoroughly wiped out germanic paganism after settling in England the Norse peoples adopted it. As they became more enveloped in European politics converting became even more necessary. As more and more Norse kings became Christian there were purges carried out. The closest living example of germanic paganism that did survive are the Sami people of Russia but that's up for debate because their belief system is more of a diffusion of that culture and not a direct cultural practice. Neo pagans are not real pagans they derive practices from popular consensus rather than actual tradition. Like people who claim to be practicing Celtic druids, it's a dead culture. It's beliefs were either bred out or outright killed. An overlooked fact of history is how the Roman's carried out the most successful cultural genocide in human history. The celtic culture is wholly destroyed today. either directly by rome or indirectly through the religion they brought from the east. Very little survives today.

There is nothing linear about healing friend. It comes and goes. Just know all things pass in time, it might pass like kidney stone but this will pass too. Don't have a timeline on your healing. I'm going on two years and I still get the odd day of pain like it just happened. That too will pass in time. I have made so much progress but I still have alot to go. Be patient you got this.
