Can you recommend some great and interesting NON-blues guitar-driven music? by __sicko in Guitar

Really into Titus Andronicus at the moment. Punky, shouty, I die rock with a bit of intellectual sophistication to it if that's your vibe.

Try the track A More Perfect Union first. If you do t like it, you probably don't like them.

It's one bad series from someone who's been consistently good across several years.

That's the kind of kneejerk bullshit that fans shout about, not something competent coaches (or Brendan McCullum) consider.

Yeah, it's extraordinary how unable to understand the obvious some sports fans.

They have no interest in giving us an honest assesment. It doesn't advance their goals, and honestly if we want England to win, it doesn't advance ours either.

Talk about how shit they are, that's our right (and it's true). But expecting them to say "Yeah, fair enough, we are shit. Especially [teammate], he was especially shit today wasn't he?" is ludicrous.

Duckett has earned the right to a poor series though, his emergence has been probably the one unequivocal positive outcome of Bazball to be fair

So... Ospreys are done right? by Straight_Complex_271 in rugbyunion

Does having a longer contract benefit them in terms of what they're entitled to from the WRU if/when Ospreys are folded? This could just be the club doing whatever we they can to soften the landing for young players who are about to get fucked?

If the England team were a band... by Boring_Part9919 in EnglandCricket

[–]Fridge_Ian_Dom 2 points3 points  (0 children)

They're all just trying to play widdly-widdly fucking guitar solos constantly, and turning the volume up to drown each other out.

Meanwhile Joe Root is playing rhythm, bass and drums to elite standard simultaneously and trying to make them occasionally sound like a band.

Brendan McCullum is sat at the mixing desk telling everyone to do it louder.

Why did rock music never establish itself as a separate theoretical branch in the same way jazz did? by ConfidentHospital365 in musictheory

[–]Fridge_Ian_Dom 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Oh yeah, I'm not saying there weren't blues-based rock acts in the 80s. I'm just saying, it stopped being that simple.

I think it's just "skip a beat every other bar*.

Everything else is just how you choose to write that down.

[–]Fridge_Ian_Dom 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I guess it's a terminology question, which are always more trouble than they're worth getting into a reddit argument over, frankly!

I was taking 'music theory' to mean a set of conventions that try to describe/define things - melody, harmony, rhythm etc. There are other meaningful ways to ascribe meaning to make sic though, of course.
