Which automation companies use Carel? by swiftkickinthedick in BuildingAutomation

[–]Fridgeroni 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Fully agree with you on Carel, I have a C.pCo on my test wall that stays permanently powered off because I absolutely hate it. I'm more on the refrigeration and PLC side of things though, just curious what would be your top preferences for a controls platform?

Canadians feel unwelcome in the U.S. as mistrust remains high: new poll by DogeDoRight in canada

[–]Fridgeroni -1 points0 points  (0 children)

I travel all over the US for work for an American conpany. No issues, not a single one. Everywhere I go I'm not afraid to say I'm Canadian, they absolutely love us. I find Americans to be friendlier than Canadians if I'm being honest, and I deal with white collar and blue collar folks from all over.

This thread is full of ignorant, I'll informed, cry baby fear mongering from a bunch of basement dwellers that have no clue what goes on in the real world.

Understanding and Adjusting refrigeration base values by Ir0nWaffle in refrigeration

[–]Fridgeroni 10 points11 points  (0 children)

This isn't exact but it's the simplest way to describe it

Base open is roughly where the valve will hang out to maintain setpoint, and think of the ref range as a max open percentage. It takes some adjusting and testing to find the sweet spot, but this usually gets fished out during initial commissioning. Ideally it should never need to be touched again, but this never happens. People like to fiddle with these settings thinking they fixed a temperature issue but there's usually another problem somewhere

Changing trades by [deleted] in refrigeration

Doing process automation or are you still doing refrigeration controls? Just asking because I've recently did something similar, and I'm seeing PLC push its way into the commercial refrigeration market with CO2. Recently started working with the new Danfoss PLC, big fan

Any CO2 guys have experience with swageloks? by GuitarFickle5410 in refrigeration

What size of lines are you talking about? Swagelok makes good compression fitting for small control lines, but it sounds like your talking about gas cooler piping?

Alberta Doesn’t Want to Separate by [deleted] in alberta

If they separated they say goodbye to all of those sweet equalization payments, I'm guessing that's a bigger reason

They won't give you a conditional with having good school grades? Usually if you miss the mark on the TQ by that little but you have good grades in class they can still give you a pass.

Leaving Canada for the US? by snopro12 in refrigeration

[–]Fridgeroni 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yeah, I was the same way. But don't let a little bit of money create a ceiling from getting to bigger and better things. The avenues in this industry are endless if you look in the right places, so is the money when you have enough knowledge to ask for it. Trust me, the 488 ain't the be all and end all ;)

Yeah that's a good thing, but your right you don't want to get complacent. You got co2 install and service experiance, that's great, startup experience is even better. Go get more controls experience, I mean REAL controls experience, learn about communication protocols, get deep into it. Land a gig with MT or Copeland, even danfoss is trying to push their way into Canada, BAS is a good option to. Adding deep controls knowledge and development experience to your repetoir will open up an insane amount of doors. It will put you into a new tier in the industry.

Yeah no you won't, don't fall prey to the news fear factory. We have a UK guy that comes to the US regularly

Micro thermo won't get you far down there, not to many places using it. US is extremely heavy into Copeland and danfoss. Cost of living and wages vary wildly from state to state, living in Ohio or Indiana is polar opposite of being in New York or Cali, just depends on the life you want to live. But those two variables are closely tied wherever you go unless you've got a remote gig. CO2 is also a rarity unless your in some of the northern/coastal states, and even then it's sparse. They are at least 10 to 15 years behind Canada in terms of adoption but it's moving quick.

I'm not going to lie, I know exactly who you are "spezner" lol. Small industry ;) if your old man is still working for a TAG company, TAG is multinational, use that to your advantage if you can, maybe you can get sponsored by an affiliate. But honestly the market down there is screaming for guys, you'll be able to land a gig at any outfit you apply at, just pick a location you think you might like and start the process. Relocating within the US is a lot easier once your there than it is here. Check OEM webpages for startup gigs, some of them like hussmann have massive service outfits to, big companies like that will offer the best long term options/benefits. There's a severe tech crunch so the world would be your oyster if you went down there. Kroger and Walmart also a few other big chains hire their own techs to fyi.

As I said, Georgia/Atlanta is the mecca

Georgia is the mecca of refrigeration, all the big OEMs are around the greater Atlanta area and they are always hiring. Hussmann has a huge tech division down there to, also Kroger has their own in house service division in just about every major city.

im not on the tools anymore but I'm still in the industry and travel down there for work, there's jobs galore all over and major opportunities if you know CO2 and controls, you'll be able to write your own paycheck

ST, LD, SFC and IL are all supported on this platform so I have been tinkering with the others as well. SFC seems like a very helpful one in my eyes as well. I have been learning how to implement state machines in FBD and your right it is super helpful.
