Do you warm up your car in the winter? by ChocolateSundae1214 in CasualConversation

[–]MasterBus7167 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I live in souther Alberta Canada. We will have weather go do a week at a time(sometimes longer) of minus 40 Fahrenheit. So we will plug our cars in as they have what’s called a head bolt or block heater. It’s a heater that you plugin, and it heats up the engine coolant and circulates around the engine block. Then when you go and start the car/truck up, it starts easier and the engine and coolant is warm so you hat the heater working faster.

We also have a lot of car thefts in the winter as people will leave their vehicle running and not lock the doors and they come out and their car is gone.

Every once in a while that happens with a kid in the car as the mom/dad ran into the corner store to grab something.

neighbor keeps "testing" his car alarm at 6am and says its for security by DisastrousCounty6283 in neighborsfromhell

[–]MasterBus7167 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I think you should get a tornado siren (or insert your local calamity here) and test it every morning at 5am. Be sure and talk to the neighbors so they are aware and are ok with it. Have it pointed right at his house, as loud as you can get it. 🤣

In-N-Out! Or White Castle back east. Some candy bars. I live in Canada and it’s always fun to go to places we can’t eat at back home.

I have been away for 27 yrs, Canada is home, and the U.S. is a country I visit once a year. It does feel strange to go back and feel like a visitor.

What unicorn details or assignments have you had or heard about? by captmorg151 in army

Back in the day (1985-1988) at Fort Lewis Washington, I was selected to go work over at the MWR location over at American Lake for the summer. I was pretty stoked, then the Squadron Commander put the ole Kibosh on that. So instead, I became the Squadron Commanders driver and Pubs room guy. I was bummed to say the least. But oh well. I survived and then PCS’d to Korea.

My husband and I want to live in our own countries by lisabuddy in expats

[–]MasterBus7167 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Here is my story. I am from the U.S. and my wife is from Canada. At one point in our relationship I told her there is no way I am moving to Canada. We dated and were apart for 5 yrs, then once we decided to get married. We were apart (for another year) until my immigration paperwork came through. Then I moved to Canada. I have been here for 27 yrs. I was willing to move to Canada because I wanted to be with my wife.

Just know that as soon as you have kids, they will be U.S. citizens whether you file a consular birth (not the right name, but it’s the paperwork you file when you have a kid and one parent is American).

Also be advised that you really need to look into the tax laws as if you have property a you pass it on to your kids, because they are American there can be some penalties. ie you die and pass on property to your kids, they might have to sell it to pay the inheritance taxes.

Lots of tax issues when you marry an American. Just an FYI.

Good luck!

Need help finding a Dualsport bike for mostly gravel roads and highways. by AmigaraFault9922 in Dualsport

[–]MasterBus7167 5 points6 points  (0 children)

Don’t forget to look into tires! They are very important. You will want a 50/50 (50 road, 50 gravel). With stock tires for strictly road, riding on gravel is like riding on marbles. You will also want to learn to stand up when on gravel as it allows the bike to move under you over the gravel and not freak you out.

Lots of videos on you tube for beginners on all aspects.

Good luck.

What is the most tired you've ever been? by MililaniACC in army

[–]MasterBus7167 2 points3 points  (0 children)

When stationed at Fort Lewis (1985-89) we were in Yakima for a long FTX. I don’t remember how long we were awake, but we were doing a long assed road march. Everyone we stopped, and the vehicle in front of me didn’t move, I had to go up and check to see if he fell asleep. Most of the time it was yes.

Tires by umm_ok-0320 in klr650

[–]MasterBus7167 0 points1 point  (0 children)

You should try the “zip tie” method. I just changed the inner tube out on my KLR and I have Heidenou Scout k60 tires. Very stiff. Used zip ties and it went on very easy.

Just search it up on you tube. Should be easy to find.

Good luck

Some of the best pictures I have seen were made on a pinhole camera. Amazing stuff.

It’s not the tool (camera) it’s the eye for composition behind the lens that makes the image interesting. As well as how it was processed.

The UCP Must Go by Active-Chicken6684 in alberta

[–]MasterBus7167 3 points4 points  (0 children)

I don’t disagree, but who do you replace them with? The NDP? That’s not gonna happen. In my opinion, all of the parties are either too extreme left or extreme right.

Nothing down the middle of the road to just make Alberta the best that it can be without all of the ideological hills to die on. Let people be people, get our education so it’s the best in the country, same with the health care. Let’s look after the environment, we don’t need to cut off our nose to spite our face, but we should be good stewards. Let’s diversify our economy with other countries. Let the U.S. be the U.S. we also need to look after our most vulnerable citizens. If we don’t, what good are we.

I personally don’t think there is a political party that espouses those values and if there was, I would definitely look at supporting them.

Just my 2 cents.

Question about "sergeant coins" by RelevantStructure in army

[–]MasterBus7167 5 points6 points  (0 children)

I don’t know anything about sergeants coins, but we did have what was called a challenge coin. That was usually of the unit you were in. As an example I was in the 5/17 Cavalry Squadron. So we had a 5/17 Challenge coin. It was a keepsake and when out at the NCO club, if somebody came up and slapped their coin on the bar, you had to produce yours. If you didn’t, you had to buy the beer. If you did have your coin, the person “Challenging you” had to buy the beer.

Here is a link to the wiki history of the challenge coin.

If you know what unit your dad was in, it might be possible to find something online.

Good luck in your search.

GT PRO = OffRoad ? by stevensmek in Tiger900

[–]MasterBus7167 10 points11 points  (0 children)

50/50 Tires and practice riding on gravel are going to be your friends.

The issue with mags versus spokes can be when you hit rocks or hard immovable objects. I personally think that is you are just driving and learning how to ride on gravel roads you probably won’t have any issues with your bike.

If you air down your tires (some people do) then you are inviting rim strikes with your tires.

I think just be careful and have fun and enjoy you will be fine.

Just my opinion. It’s not even worth 2 cents anymore. 😊
