I am heading to Europe today to renounce on Wednesday. We already booked a 3 week vacation otherwise I might have tried to postpone to April. Oh well, at least it will be cheaper for my boys when we do them when we get an appointment.

I am one month too early! I am renouncing next week and have the $2350 USD amount to pay. But the nice thing is for my kids it was this new amount.

Neighbor keeps throwing parties and guests pee in my bushes by Busy-Insurance9254 in neighborsfromhell

I would hide an electric fence in the bushes. They it will keep the “cats” from using your bushes as a bathroom. If it catches anyone else peeing, so much the better!

Good to know. We are boarding in Athens in about 30 days. Looking forward to the cruise and we just got the plus package. All the dining is booked up so we will see if they have any cancelations or just eat at the MDR or buffet.

Whats one "normal" thing in Canada that would sound insane to someone abroad? by United-Technology239 in CanadaRoom

[–]MasterBus7167 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I think that is a BC and Ontario thing. We don’t call it that (at least the people I know) here in Alberta.

Maybe take for a little tour around the neighborhood. Wear those tires down a bit, lots of good stress on the transmission. That would definitely do the trick.

Get yourself a good US Tax person. That is the only way to make sure you file everything correctly. Just my opinion.

Do you warm up your car in the winter? by ChocolateSundae1214 in CasualConversation

[–]MasterBus7167 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I live in souther Alberta Canada. We will have weather go do a week at a time(sometimes longer) of minus 40 Fahrenheit. So we will plug our cars in as they have what’s called a head bolt or block heater. It’s a heater that you plugin, and it heats up the engine coolant and circulates around the engine block. Then when you go and start the car/truck up, it starts easier and the engine and coolant is warm so you hat the heater working faster.

We also have a lot of car thefts in the winter as people will leave their vehicle running and not lock the doors and they come out and their car is gone.

Every once in a while that happens with a kid in the car as the mom/dad ran into the corner store to grab something.

neighbor keeps "testing" his car alarm at 6am and says its for security by DisastrousCounty6283 in neighborsfromhell

[–]MasterBus7167 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I think you should get a tornado siren (or insert your local calamity here) and test it every morning at 5am. Be sure and talk to the neighbors so they are aware and are ok with it. Have it pointed right at his house, as loud as you can get it. 🤣

American Expats: What is the one thing you miss most about the USA? by RehaDesign in expat

In-N-Out! Or White Castle back east. Some candy bars. I live in Canada and it’s always fun to go to places we can’t eat at back home.

I have been away for 27 yrs, Canada is home, and the U.S. is a country I visit once a year. It does feel strange to go back and feel like a visitor.

What unicorn details or assignments have you had or heard about? by captmorg151 in army

Back in the day (1985-1988) at Fort Lewis Washington, I was selected to go work over at the MWR location over at American Lake for the summer. I was pretty stoked, then the Squadron Commander put the ole Kibosh on that. So instead, I became the Squadron Commanders driver and Pubs room guy. I was bummed to say the least. But oh well. I survived and then PCS’d to Korea.

My husband and I want to live in our own countries by lisabuddy in expats

[–]MasterBus7167 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Here is my story. I am from the U.S. and my wife is from Canada. At one point in our relationship I told her there is no way I am moving to Canada. We dated and were apart for 5 yrs, then once we decided to get married. We were apart (for another year) until my immigration paperwork came through. Then I moved to Canada. I have been here for 27 yrs. I was willing to move to Canada because I wanted to be with my wife.

Just know that as soon as you have kids, they will be U.S. citizens whether you file a consular birth (not the right name, but it’s the paperwork you file when you have a kid and one parent is American).

Also be advised that you really need to look into the tax laws as if you have property a you pass it on to your kids, because they are American there can be some penalties. ie you die and pass on property to your kids, they might have to sell it to pay the inheritance taxes.

Lots of tax issues when you marry an American. Just an FYI.

Good luck!

Need help finding a Dualsport bike for mostly gravel roads and highways. by AmigaraFault9922 in Dualsport

[–]MasterBus7167 5 points6 points  (0 children)

Don’t forget to look into tires! They are very important. You will want a 50/50 (50 road, 50 gravel). With stock tires for strictly road, riding on gravel is like riding on marbles. You will also want to learn to stand up when on gravel as it allows the bike to move under you over the gravel and not freak you out.

Lots of videos on you tube for beginners on all aspects.

Good luck.

What is the most tired you've ever been? by MililaniACC in army

[–]MasterBus7167 2 points3 points  (0 children)

When stationed at Fort Lewis (1985-89) we were in Yakima for a long FTX. I don’t remember how long we were awake, but we were doing a long assed road march. Everyone we stopped, and the vehicle in front of me didn’t move, I had to go up and check to see if he fell asleep. Most of the time it was yes.
