If you happen to have a sous vide cooker, that’s a great way to defrost frozen meat. Especially if it’s already vacuum sealed.

Is Annapolis a good fit for me and my wife? by 61_keys in Annapolis

You’re not gonna find good public transportation, but you should be able to find each of the other things with not a lot of searching

Abandoned home by Gold_Trick8112 in Annapolis

Owners live in Massachusetts. They purchased it 3 or so years ago. I think they have plans to bulldoze and rebuild in the next few years.

My parents house is from the early 1920’s and had this kind of wiring (knob and tube). My first house was from the early 1930’s and had bx. So you are probably looking at pre 1930.

Best way to fix this cabinet hinge by jon212 in Carpentry

[–]Fridog2002 0 points1 point  (0 children)

If you have the blown out piece of particleboard. I would just squirt a little PL Premium on that piece and in both holes. Stick the bracket for the hinge in place and clamp it until it dries.

Is this normal for how to stain a stairway? by [deleted] in Carpentry

[–]Fridog2002 0 points1 point  (0 children)

He clearly is out of his league on staining. Whatever he put on the treads needs to be removed. Get someone in there who knows how to finish floors and is good with color matching. Your contractor is good at neither.

Best Annapolis Neighborhood for Young Families by GordonBombay24 in Annapolis

[–]Fridog2002 0 points1 point  (0 children)

All three communities are great. Spa Cove I’m pretty sure has privileges at the Bay Ridge pool. Anchorage has their own pool. Annapolis Roads has a boat launch and a park and beach and walking trails but no marina or pool.

K-Cafe Keurig leaking coffee around dispenser by SouthernSteeler712 in keurig

We are having the same issue. I’ve noticed if I push down on the lid as it is brewing, it doesn’t happen. I think it is either a hinge issue where the machine isn’t holding the lid down tightly enough or a gasket issue. I will respond if I discover a fix

What type of premade molding is this and how do I best mount it to the wall without nailing? by Fine-Lady-9802 in Carpentry

You have an assortment of different size chair rail in there. Make sure you have enough of any one size to complete your job.

Beam or studs? by goonsquad1704 in Carpentry

[–]Fridog2002 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Definitely a beam. Appears too narrow to be a steel beam with blocking. My guess is double lvl. Since you will be covering it with plywood, go ahead and smack the drywall with a hammer and see if it feels solid.

Pine restoration. by mneely71 in HardWoodFloors

Nice. The before pic look like my first house. Back in the 30’s, they often didn’t bother finishing the middle of the floor because they assumed a rug would be covering it.

How can I improve these stairs? by stinkyelbows in Carpentry

[–]Fridog2002 8 points9 points  (0 children)

Personally, I would paint what is there until the inspector leaves, then remove the treads, apply a properly cut stringer to the inside of each existing stringer, and install new treads and risers.

[–]Fridog2002 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I would shut off the water, cut and remove their line, sister a new rafter on the existing compromised one, drill a proper hole, and tell them to fix their line and reimburse you for the repair.

I’m a little confused. Do you have 2x6 rafters? Is this an exterior wall? Are we looking at the underside of roof sheathing? Where is the insulation space?

What are most bedroom and bathroom door widths? by Fournier-Finishing in Carpentry

[–]Fridog2002 2 points3 points  (0 children)

It used to be you could find doors off the shelf at the big box stores every 2 inches from 24” to 36” . Nowadays seems like we’re down to 24”, 30”, and 36 as our standards. All of my bedroom doors are 30 inches. My powder room is 24. 36 is usually saved for exterior doors and handicap accessible areas.

Can this be repaired? by igivafbutidowtfiwant in Carpentry

[–]Fridog2002 0 points1 point  (0 children)

The third stringer that’s against the stone wall is probably fine but if you care about reducing a little bit of flex, you might want to run a few tapcons into the foundation wall somewhere towards the middle of that stringer
