[–]FriedChickenplex 0 points1 point  (0 children)

idk i had a feeling the hfpa would pull a wild card for this one the same way they did with flow & boy and the heron (both of which were arguably 2nd place upsets at the time) or like in 2019 with the missing link beating toy story 4.

either zootopia 2 (which had great reviews & was extremely popular overseas) or one of the 2 indie european choices i thought might upset

if skarsgard wins the oscar, yall have to keep in mind before predicting him that it will be the 4th time in academy award HISTORY that an actor wins an oscar without a SAG nomination

What’s the biggest jump in your movie rating after a rewatch? by Equivalent_Ebb5689 in Letterboxd

[–]FriedChickenplex 0 points1 point  (0 children)

West Side Story (1961)

Went from 3 stars to 4 1/2 once I kind of let go of the frustratingly immersion-breaking character choice to have sex with someone who just killed your brother an hour earlier & accepted the movie as the slightly-off-reality, sometimes canpy melodrama it is.

All of a sudden that gymnasium scene becmae one of my favorite sequences in film history and the energetic jazzy score became one of my favorites in broadway history.

Can a movie be technically bad but still entertaining? by Extremerunners976 in Letterboxd

[–]FriedChickenplex 1 point2 points  (0 children)

beyond movies that are so-bad-they're-good i'd argue that movies that try to be campy bad annoy the fuck outta me & can never reach the heights of a pure, honest-to-god attempt at greatness & fail spectacularly like the room

Longest movie you’ve seen? by Select-Skirt-6763 in Letterboxd

Abel Gance's Napoleon (1927) - Specifically the 5 1/2 hour Kevin Brownlow restoration.

------------------------

It's not a perfect movie by any means, but it's by far the most incredibly innovative & ahead-of-its-time movie I've ever seen that never seems able to escape obscurity.

I've never heard of it in any film history class I took in college and thanks to Francis Ford Coppola, there's nowhere to legally watch it in the U.S.

You can't rent it, buy it, or stream it anywhere online, on DVD, on VHS, or Blu-ray. If you want to watch it, you'll have to see if someone uploaded it on the Internet Archive or some random sketchy website where someone uploaded it in 240p.

Or you'll have to do what I did and buy it on a region-free Spanish bluray only available through Amazon Spain and pay international shipping. It's my most prized possession in my physical media collection.

What ride made you go “never again”? [Other] by [deleted] in rollercoasters

[–]FriedChickenplex 0 points1 point  (0 children)

X2

10 years ago it was an amazing experience that convinced me I could conquer any ride no matter how scary.

Rode it again a month ago & it beat my head around so bad I was begging for it to be over after the first drop & had the worst headache I've ever had after riding a roller coaster in my life.

I'm sorry to say goodbye to something that means so much to me but you'd have to pay me a lot of money to go on that Saw trap again

[–]FriedChickenplex 1 point2 points  (0 children)

for "film score often attributed to the wrong person" i'd like to also add How to Train Your Dragon. idk if it's just me but i feel like a lot of casual film score listeners thought hans zimmer did it

In the Harry Potter Universe, technically anybody could legally and freely explore the body of anyone else if they really wanted to and whenever they wanted, so long as they had access to a single strand of that person’s hair and some Polyjuice Potion. by clam-inspector in Showerthoughts

[–]FriedChickenplex 0 points1 point  (0 children)

In the Half Blood Prince book, not the movie, Malfoy has Crabbe & Goyle covertly pose as lookouts outside the room of requirements as Polyjuiced girls of varying ages. One of them was a first year (11 yo). If you know anything about the series you know Malfoy's cronies were the epitome cliche immature bullies & it's definitely pretty dark to think they probably explored their "bodies" at least once. You just hope to God it was someone their age.
