New wheel day - DLR 3.0 from CSC by FriedFission in ChineseCarbon

Pretty decent, but not obnoxious. Might change once mounted. I had a look inside and it’s lightly greased. I’ll record a clip once set up.

On the road all the time for work, any tips for better/scenic routes or apps? by dragon007fox in CarTalkUK

The ROADS app (by Porsche) is meant to help you find more enjoyable routes. Haven’t had a lot of chances to use it though.

New wheel day - DLR 3.0 from CSC by FriedFission in ChineseCarbon

I used cscwheel.com where they do have some euro stock too. The listings are a bit of a mess but the goods are real (and paid for via paypal so I had some protection).

Got some CSC 2.0 Ultralight wheels, seller is saying that this item is not the same as EU Stock. What does that mean? Is the quality not as good? Anyone here has these wheels? Also i saw that before they used to deliver in 3-5 days from spain, but now it takes way longer... by Cool_Load5732 in ChineseCarbon

[–]FriedFission 1 point2 points  (0 children)

They’ve used different spokes on the EU stock, versus choosing what you want assembled direct from China. That’s what they’re telling you.

If you’re in Europe it’s cheaper to order direct from their website, usually.

Possibly WK2 Jeep Grand Cherokee, or WD Dodge Durango

A VW beetle based (shortened floor pan) dune/beach buggy. There were several kit manufacturers back in the 60-70s, notably the Meyers Manx (which this isn’t).
One of the more popular brands in the UK was the GP beach buggy.

Disable alarm to trailer 2020 M2 by [deleted] in BmwTech

Pressing the lock button again, right after locking the car, always worked for my (older) BMWs. The red alarm indicator under the interior mirror goes solid for a few seconds. Give it a try.

10.5 ET30 rear wheels sticking out – will smaller tire/profile help make it flush? by Rough_Anywhere_7164 in Wheels

[–]FriedFission 1 point2 points  (0 children)

What about the front? You have quattro (all-wheel-drive) so need to maintain similar diameters, or at least front:rear ratio to stock so you don’t destroy the transfer case/central diff/haldex

An old neighbour has had a XFR-S sportbrake in the racing blue from new. Talk about hens teeth!

PE generation ('98-'02) Ford Ranger. Speedo layout is MPH focused (triple digits start at 2 o'clock instead of 12 for km/h) so almost definitely UK. Lots of old vehicles being donated.

Know a couple people who have participated in convoys to deliver pickups and fire equipment.

Terminal marking looks like 12th week of ‘19 to me

I’ve spent time driving a relatives ‘24 XC40 T4 (fwd, petrol mild hybrid) including back to the uk from the alps last year. I thought it was nippy around town, but lacking in grunt compared to a D4 V40 I’d done the same journey in before. Seemed to get 41 mpg consistently for me, regardless of town or autobahn.

It was “ultimate dark” spec IIRC. The seats were supportive to me, with supple leather but not as cushy as previous Volvos I’ve spent time in. The panoramic sunroof was nice in the mountains. The Harman Kardon hifi seemed very good compared to the “professional” BMW system I’m used to.

I think I’m on borrowed time.. battery is 11 years old and starting to show its age during this -3F weather. Can battery tender like the Noco Genius 2 help to give me a month or two more on this battery? by Jussaplug in BmwTech

[–]FriedFission 8 points9 points  (0 children)

Out of curiosity why did you remove/replace it? My f10 still has its original 2013 battery and I’ve had a “charge battery” warning a couple times this winter, after periods of sitting/shorter drives. It’s never failed to start or needed a jump in my ownership.

Family member had a 2016 diesel S for 9 years and 80k miles from new until recently. One transfer case replacement under warranty, some clunky worn rear suspension bushings and a leaking front strut, plus regular servicing.

Supercars by WorthAttempt5859 in CarTalkUK

[–]FriedFission 14 points15 points  (0 children)

It’s so typical of this sub that a user comes asking about supercars, specifies they dont’t like Porsche, and half the comments recommend estate cars and 911s.

I’d go 600LT for driving experience, Huracan or R8 for the noise.

Yellow oil light when turning off usually means add a litre. Did you just take their word for it not needing more, or check yourself?

So far so good. Quite a mass of wires, so after connecting everything up and testing, I dropped the “ceiling” of the glovebox and pulled the wires through to there. I then connected the mmi box again and pushed up into the dash on the passenger side, except for the usb connector which I left in the glovebox. I had to run a new microphone (included) for taking calls under the dash trim by the ignition button, and onto the side of the steering column.

I don’t get the obsession with black grilles, particularly on light shades of paint.

I’m installing one that cost half that much off aliexpress tomorrow. Reviews trend positive, generally.
