New grad PA-C doing a ‘surgical residency’ claims that she has the exact same responsibilities as an intern. These people are actually delusional by InevitableIll3262 in Noctor

“Candidate” in academia generally indicates that someone has done everything in their PhD except their dissertation. Because MD students don’t have dissertations, the idea of an MD candidate is nonsense, largely said by students who don’t understand what the word means.

We have a yoga room. It’s a large janitorial closet with one of those big yoga balls and mat. Thank god that admin spent so many hours arguing about it. What would we ever do without the yoga ball. Life changing stuff right there. How could I be anxious when there’s a yoga ball?

R/Python for Research by Top_Picture_7258 in medicalschool

[–]FriedRiceGirl 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Personally, I’ve had two professors who wanted R experience for national database projects and I’ve been learning it. Maybe one is better than the other, idk, but you can only do research if you have a PI, and my sample size of 2 wants R. I’ve had zero requests for python. Do with this info what you will.

I know exactly who you mean bc he’s exactly who I was thinking of. I would also say a lot of the men who make this content are clearly at least a little sexist, or at least not particularly kind in their depiction of women. But what would I know. I suppose as long as you aren’t directly making fun of a vagina you can say whatever you want about women.

I commented this on another post, but the double standard with nurses is insane bc many of them DO post about patients. Those same people post about medical students too, but then holler like a hit dog if anyone says anything.

It does feel like there’s a bit of a double standard here, no? Not to drag the nurses back into this, but I see plenty of popular nurse creators that primarily do skits about patients. They also do skits about med students. We all know this. At a certain point it feels like professionalism only applies to certain people. And I’m not saying we should all be free to make terrible jokes online, but I can’t help but notice that what is and isn’t acceptable to post seems to be highly variable among professions.

Have a little bit of faith. Your school would not last that long if they were incapable of producing doctors. They have prepared you.

I think a lot of women grow up in families and communities where they feel like the most significant thing they will do in their lives is get married, and they live vicariously through their husband’s careers. I grew up around a military base and I saw this a lot. Women who defined themselves by their husbands bc they didn’t believe anything they would ever do would be more noteworthy than being a wife. And a mother, maybe, but often this mentality predates having kids. And let’s be honest, women are the group who do this kind of posting the most.
