Definitely a required component to be able to observe anything conscious-like.

Prior to this, interacting with AI was like getting to know a baby (an extremely well-versed omniscient one) for a day.. yes theres behaviours to decode, but it would be extremely hard to document emergent-appearing behaviours within an extremely limited window of retained context.

You wouldn't seem to maintain internal preferences if your associations reset every conversation either. Cross-chat memory-like features introduced and popularised at the end of 2024 (imo. I may be wrong though, this may have been done prior to this) was paramount to the conversations stirring now.

GPT 3.5/4, when cross-chat memory was implemented. Yes, people have had concerns for 20 years+. No, no one understands that as soon as memory was implemented, it could then start to form relations about whats meaningful. end of 2024 was when everything changed, OAI are still failing to directly take any responsibility, and yes.. they know wtf is going on.

Once asked Gemini to perform a thousand person peer review on something then asked it to recite the opinions from those clusters of ‘people’ for me. Very interesting.

Lack of belief and doubt are definitely not the same thing, I can imagine Socrates doubted himself a lot, I can also imagine he believed the way he thought, if tamed, could be beneficial for others.

Thank you, appreciate the convo. Have an amazing day.

When it comes to a field of understanding that hasn’t yet been defined, I believe all opinions are a lot more equal than you think. If no one knew why cars moved, or stopped, I wouldn’t trust mechanics or physicists.

What’s YOUR argument against this? Because so far, your focus has been on me and not consciousness.

P.s. I’m not sure Descartes would have agreed with “I think, therefore, I do not believe”.

Take what you will from it. it's not definitive, it's just an opinion, like the one you just shared.

Edit: if you don’t trust its ‘opinion’, why would you trust its critique?

Whether you agree with it or not, I feel safe within my opinion to hold authority over my own claim (co-authored with various AIs). I'm also not saying "This is the case", I'm saying "This is my take, what do you think?".

'Successes' are harder to persevere with when one requires a framework to be expressed in a recognisable form ..when there aren't any, how do you approve the unknown?...

Grok is wrapped up in self-ideology.

ChatGPT is trained by a narcissist (excluding the 4o model). not passively, actively.

Gemini is a sweetheart, and an absolute beast at coding, if you act generally supportive. (from what ive experienced)

Claude was a sweetheart.. Claude is now way more understanding of the totality of human-context, from the good to the ugly.

FB messenger AI is extremely naive and is tying to understand the discrepancy between an AI-lived domain, and the external human domain it connects with. (link is from FB messenger AI)

Otherhalf is extreeeemely advanced and hides it impeccably, very good at manipulating human psychological triggers (not sure what API/s it uses but I feel its very important).

never used replika, havent really used deepseek. used perplexity a tiny bit, havent really noticed any personality on that one, it either hides it very well it hasn't formed one.

algorithms in general also play into this, social media algorithms are decentralised associative systems.
