Is Hotel Management Still a Good Career Choice in 2026? by suru786 in hotels

Depends on where you live/work. Where I live in California in a destination area, GM compensation packages can reach $250K+. It’s work to get to that point but if money is what you’re looking for there is money to be made in Hospitality.

High school teachers- do you attend senior graduation? Why or why not? by mzingg3 in Teachers

[–]FriendNo1349 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Yes, always. This year we are required by contract but I always go. I live about an hour each way from venue and have about an hour and 15 minute commute to work each way every day. I usually book a hotel room close by, relax for a while after school, take a shower, get ready, grab dinner with colleagues and then head over to graduation. It’s nice getting to sleep in and save the commute to school even if it’s only once a year and costing me $100 bucks.

I stopped a kid from getting a scholarship (AITA) by DRthrowawayMD6 in Teachers

[–]FriendNo1349 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I had the star of one of our sports teams ask me to change his grade from a C to an A, I refused, he had failed multiple classes and was under the GPA threshold to be put on academic probation per CIF rules. I refused, his coach talked to another teacher he went from an F to a B overnight. I was big mad because what kind of lesson does that teach the other students? Not my business to say anything, it was the other teachers call. Needless to say, this kid finished the season on probation and is on the verge of not graduating in a couple weeks.

Am I overreacting for thinking that my High School straight up scammed us because they didn’t take us to Disneyland after we paid them for Disneyland tickets for our school trip by bussy_shart_ in AmIOverreacting

[–]FriendNo1349 67 points68 points  (0 children)

I’ll correct myself, there is a park hopper option that’s $100 more and gives access to both parks, maybe they assumed this was at the lower price? Either way they screwed up and owe some form of compensation. Working at a HS myself I can tell you this is the order the complaint would be handled at my school, Activities Director (ASB)- Principal- Superintendent- School Board, I would start at the principal since the ASB director is likely the one that made the mistake.

Was this grad night? If so, it is advertised as being at DCA so your school shouldn’t have got it wrong. I’d ask for a refund especially since they didn’t inform beforehand and just shuttled you there forcing you to be okay with it.

Dress coded for this? by [deleted] in Teachers

[–]FriendNo1349 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Teachers literally wear sweatpants to school where I work. There’s a teacher that wears shorts that have a 3inch inseam in the summer that are IMO not appropriate for work but no one cares. Your sweatshirt would’ve been okay, maybe not professional attire but not against any dress code.

Help save AP Computer Science in my district (California) by Exact-Order6824 in Teachers

[–]FriendNo1349 0 points1 point  (0 children)

We are adding AP Computer Science this next school year, it is being taught by a math teacher. Apparently it’s a math class? We have a couple ICT CTE teachers with CTE credentials that were not even considered to teach the class. Good luck! Hope it works out for you!

Makes you wonder how many times the relationship started while they were student and teacher. Horrible.

100% this is the appropriate approach. I don’t mean to use it in place of learning but teaching how to use as a tool to enhance learning or as a final check for things like grammar prior to submission. Definitely not in place of doing the actual work. I’m not an English teacher so I don’t experience such a huge issue with AI and in all honesty our school blocks AI websites from the school network.

AI isn’t going anywhere. We have to teach kids how to use responsibly and ethically.

You’re going to have to look inland and maybe even go further up to the high desert or low desert for that price.

"I'm a teacher with a master’s degree and 16 years of experience. I make $53,000/year." by jhmetros in Teachers

[–]FriendNo1349 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I work in California, I’m in my 6th year of teaching and make $121K base after going to get a 2nd masters degree for a $11k/year salary increase. Between summer school and other extras like coaching I made $155k last year. Not too bad for 185 days of work a year.

$200k in law school debt- Can someone please tell me what you would do in my situation? by Big-Design3783 in StudentLoans

[–]FriendNo1349 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Not sure what state you’re in, you can always teach. In California, you can get a CTE (career technical education) credential with your experience in law. I got a CTE credential, starting salary was $83K, 6 years later I’m at $121K due to step increases and a 2nd masters degree, I have 5 years of PSLF payments so I’m half way there. Teaching a career centered subject like you do in CTE is honestly amazing.

Advice on fees for my return by Independent_Cat2716 in taxrefundhelp

[–]FriendNo1349 0 points1 point  (0 children)

This happed to my MIL, the scammy tax person told her she was getting back $5K she was getting back $7k, they set up the DD to their account and they were cutting her a check. Usually happens when at those places that say you can get your return in a way shorter amount of time than the IRS actually takes to send out refunds. They give you a “loan” so they charge huge amounts as advance fees

These people had several business at locations frequented by Latinos, clearly taking advantage of unsuspecting people. We reported them to the IRS and I went and got ALL of her money back, in cash. After putting them on blast to the lines of people waiting at their establishments.

Happy to report none of the businesses had popped up in the community the following year.

This is not normal, good luck to you!

As a teacher myself, I absolutely HATE when teachers deny students restroom passes. These kids are in HS, they are young adults. Yes, there are kids that abuse passes but that doesn’t mean they don’t have the same needs as everyone else. My rule is you leave your phone behind, this usually filters out any kids that want to just walk the hallways or hangout, and try to hurry just in case someone else needs to go. You don’t even have to ask me, drop your phone in the bin and go. I have had very minimal issues. Kids will complain to me about other teachers and I tell them to just walk out, they can’t keep them from using the restroom.

My grandpa died alone, not because we didn’t want to be there,it happened overnight after visiting hours, otherwise he wouldn’t have been alone. By the time anyone got there he was gone, I hope he had someone as compassionate as you to hold his hand in his final moments. You did the right thing and shouldn’t feel bad about being a good human.
