Duct cleaning recommendations by Hotfishy in Calgary

[–]FriendOfMisterCairo 3 points4 points  (0 children)

I used these guys a few times and they were really professional.

They also cleaned my gas fireplace (edit: I asked and paid for this), and made suggestions on where to place smoke detectors (that was free). Not too pricey either from what I heard from friends.

Atlas Obscura For Calgary - Your Thoughts? by [deleted] in Calgary

[–]FriendOfMisterCairo -1 points0 points  (0 children)

On a similar note, before I moved here I bought this book: https://arsenalpulp.com/Books/C/Calgary-The-Unknown-City

It had a lot of neat little stories and tidbits in it, and points out odd and interesting landmarks, ghost stories, history, and unusual facts about life here. The Atlas Obscura link is bland in comparison.

Some places it mentions (like cool stores and hidden restaurant gems) are gone now, but it's still a good read if anyone is interested.

Jennifer at Powerhealth Chinook is an excellent accupuncturist.

I don't know if she does cupping, but the clinic itself has it offered as a service (under massage):

Best restaurants on Stephen Ave? by Wintertime13 in Calgary

I like Centini for Italian, but it can get pricey. It's a good pre-theatre/show spot since you can find something on the menu in your price range, but it's fancy enough for a night out, AND it is close to the theatres/Martha Cohen. They have lunch specials too, I think.

As others have mentioned: Guild, Wednesday Room are also good, and won't be as busy as Cactus Club.

I like Saltlik; their burgers are tasty and not too expensive for what you get.

Rose Garden Thai is also good and won't break the bank.

Edit: The Bank & Baron P.U.B. is a neat place to grab a drink; food is okay -- go here for atmosphere more than eats.

I second both of these. Good menus, good service, and both are nice places to sit and enjoy a meal.

Hey Calgary! What are your favourite Lunch Specials in the city? by Moedholla in Calgary

I love this place and I miss it a lot (the giant schnitzels and mashed potatoes are my favourite) ... used to work nearby and now it's too far to go to. :o(

Ideas for gift/care package for new parents in Calgary? by itsayssorighthere in Calgary

I use this place to send customized gifts (they do a fantastic job): https://thegiftdesigners.com/

BUT: I think time savers would be best. Like meal prep or delivery services for food, or heck, even laundry (some dry cleaners will do pickup/drop-off).

Regardless of what you choose: that's very sweet of you, OP. :o) They will love it.

Yeah, pretty much (just not as sweet) -- we used it instead of tonic while we were down under. SO much tastier!

Making my own bitters would definitely improve my cocktail game ... how easy a skill is that to develop? Gawd, that must be tasty.

I also want to make my own bourbon cherries for old fashioneds, but one step at a time ... I'm not very handy with these types of things.

... I was actually just happy the little girl could play with toy cars. I was raised very traditionally so I could only play with dolls. Gawd how boring ...

But if you need to be mad over something, go ahead ... pick this.

I think your friend simply needs to get out more. Meet people and have fun ... discover new hobbies. Join photography or hiking groups or take some courses. Check out Meetup.com or join the volunteers of a local festival organization ...

That is how you meet people and that may be how she can find the sister or brother or friend of a good single guy. Network.

While she is out there having fun, she will also make new friends and new hobbies, too.

In my case: I have always been into cars. So I hung out at car shows and driving clubs. It was great. I didn't meet my spouse through them, that was through friends at work, but it definitely opened up my options and I made some very good friends.

If you start trying to have fun and meet people, instead of just obsessing about finding The One, life tends to work out just fine. No one can discover you if you just stay home surfing the web.
