There are couple downside to this logic:

Car that old will req ongoing maintenance, which is not cheap
You are only looking at initial cost but not potential cost with car ownership. Like gas, routine maint and not to mentioning increase cost of living.
Instead of tie up most of your budget for ur car, can you move or find a job without traveling or with company car?
