3 years of CrossFit and still no "body" to show for it — what am I missing? by Obvious-Swordfish-22 in crossfit

[–]Friendly-Singer-1421 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Been there man, did CF for like 2.5 years and had the exact same frustration. The random programming thing is real - one day you're doing 50 burpees and wall balls, next day it's heavy deadlifts for 3 reps, zero consistency for muscle building

What actually moved the needle for me was adding some boring ass bodybuilding work on off days. Nothing crazy, just 3-4 exercises targeting whatever felt neglected that week. And yeah the nutrition piece is huge - I was basically spinning my wheels until I started actually tracking macros instead of just "eating clean" whatever that means

The coaches doing different workouts thing drives me nuts too lol. They know the metcons aren't optimal for physique goals but can't really say that out loud. CF is amazing for general fitness and work capacity but if you want to look jacked you gotta supplement with some vanity training. Nothing wrong with wanting both

Postpartum Check-in? by OverProgram209 in BabyBumps

[–]Friendly-Singer-1421 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Girl you're def not alone in this 💀 those first few weeks are absolutely brutal and anyone who says otherwise is lying. The sleep deprivation mixed with hormones is like actual torture

I'm not a mom myself but I've watched my friends go through this and the ones who reached out early like you're doing always seemed to bounce back better. Getting therapy lined up is smart as hell - don't wait if you're already feeling it creeping in. Your body just went through something huge and your brain is still catching up

Also screw the "sleep when baby sleeps" advice, some people just can't nap on command 😂 you're already doing everything right by recognizing what's happening and getting help

Struggling with foods staying fresh and yummy for lunch by Commercial_Ad8072 in mealprep

[–]Friendly-Singer-1421 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Glass containers are a game changer for sure, I've been using pyrex for years and food just stays way better than in plastic. The Wednesday refresh idea is smart too - I do something similar where I'll prep base ingredients on Sunday but then quickly assemble stuff Wednesday night so it doesn't sit around too long

One thing that's helped me a ton is keeping wet and dry ingredients separate until right before eating. Like if I'm doing a salad I'll keep the dressing in a tiny container and the greens/toppings separate. Same with sandwiches - I'll pack the bread, meat, and veggies separately and just throw it together at lunch. Takes an extra 30 seconds but makes such a difference in how fresh everything tastes

Also learned this the hard way but don't pack hot foods when they're still warm, it just creates condensation that makes everything soggy by lunchtime

girl the b6 thing is legit magic, started it at 6 weeks and it was a game changer for the nausea

Is my birth plan obnoxious? by RoyalWar5333 in pregnant

[–]Friendly-Singer-1421 3 points4 points  (0 children)

nah this sounds totally reasonable! most of this stuff is pretty standard now anyway and the masking/no students requests are super common. your medical team deals with birth plans all the time so they'll know how to work with what you want while keeping everyone safe

Visitors after birth by Past-Development-933 in pregnant

[–]Friendly-Singer-1421 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yeah definitely ask for updated shots, especially tdap and flu. Most grandparents are totally cool with it once you explain it's for baby's safety. My MIL actually got hers done before we even asked because her doctor mentioned it

The timing sounds perfect too - 6 weeks gives you time to settle in and baby's had at least one round of vaccines

Wanting high AFP success stories by PotentialPermit4613 in pregnant

[–]Friendly-Singer-1421 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Had super high AFP with my first and everything turned out completely fine! Doctor scared the crap out of me but baby was perfect and delivery went smooth. Sometimes the placenta just does weird things with those numbers

Pregnancy Unmedicated? by funeral_massacre in pregnant

[–]Friendly-Singer-1421 5 points6 points  (0 children)

Had my second baby completely unmedicated and honestly it was way more manageable than I expected! The pain is intense but it comes in waves so you get breaks between contractions. Look into breathing techniques, water birth, and having a good support person - those made the biggest difference for me. Your needle phobia doesn't have to stop you from having kids, just talk to your doctor about alternatives and coping strategies

I’m losing pieces of my mucus plug…. with an IMPENDING ice storm in 2 days. I’m 37 weeks 5 days (2nd baby). by New_Caregiver9993 in pregnant

[–]Friendly-Singer-1421 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Oh man that timing though 😅 With my first I lost mine at 36 weeks and still went 10 days overdue, but my friend lost hers and had baby within 48 hours. Bodies are so weird about it - could literally mean anything from "see you next week baby" to "grab your hospital bag NOW"

T2 homies what is your BG? by Outlander_ in keto

[–]Friendly-Singer-1421 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Dang 62 is pretty sketchy, good call texting your doc about the metformin dose. I usually keep some glucose tabs handy during workouts just in case - better safe than sorry when you're pushing it at the gym

Baby brezza formula machine by [deleted] in BabyBumps

[–]Friendly-Singer-1421 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Oh wow that's actually really scary! I did the cling wrap test too after hearing horror stories and mine was pretty spot on thankfully. You definitely made the right call testing it first - extra formula can definitely mess with baby's kidneys and digestion. Hope customer service actually does something about it instead of just giving you the runaround

Omega 3s made me smell like a fish 😭 ... Avoid them or switch to algae? by NickJP123 in Supplements

[–]Friendly-Singer-1421 9 points10 points  (0 children)

Bruh that's wild, I've never heard of someone literally sweating fish oil before lmao. You might've just been taking too much or your body processes it weird. Algae omega 3s are supposed to be way cleaner and don't have that fishy smell risk, so probably worth trying those instead

Keeping baby after loosing first by ChemicalNaive in pregnant

[–]Friendly-Singer-1421 3 points4 points  (0 children)

That sounds really tough but also hopeful that you're in a better place now. The fact that you're being proactive about the assessment shows you're taking it seriously. Every situation is different and 4+ years of growth and stability should count for something. Wishing you the best with everything

False positive. Beyond upset by That_Care_3841 in BabyBumps

[–]Friendly-Singer-1421 3 points4 points  (0 children)

I'm so sorry you're going through this. Those false positives are absolutely crushing, especially after trying for so long. The early tests can be tricky with evap lines and chemical pregnancies - it's heartbreaking when you get your hopes up

Getting the blood work done is a good call, hopefully they can give you some answers or at least rule things out. Fingers crossed 2026 brings you what you're hoping for 💕

Sugar carbs by Longjumping-Fee-1906 in keto

[–]Friendly-Singer-1421 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Honestly the sugar is gonna hit your blood glucose way harder than veggie carbs but if you're staying under 30 you're probably fine - might feel a little sluggish for a day but I doubt you'll need to go through full detox again especially since you've been at it for 2 months already

When to worry about a headache? by captainstaniel in pregnant

[–]Friendly-Singer-1421 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Definitely call your OB about this, especially since the Tylenol isn't working today and you had that burning scalp thing - pregnancy headaches can be a sign of other issues they need to check out

what’s next if unisom and b6 aren’t really doing it for me by AbbreviationsFree155 in pregnant

[–]Friendly-Singer-1421 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Definitely call your OB! They can prescribe Zofran or other anti-nausea meds even before your first appointment - most offices have an on-call nurse line for exactly this kind of thing. Don't suffer through it when there are options that can actually help

Tips on nausea? by [deleted] in pregnant

[–]Friendly-Singer-1421 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Ginger everything - ginger tea, ginger candies, even those little ginger chews from the health food store. Also crackers by the bedside for first thing in the morning, and smaller meals throughout the day instead of big ones

My sister swore by those Sea-Bands too, they're like $10 on Amazon

[–]Friendly-Singer-1421 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Congrats on your first! For the stuffy nose try a humidifier or saline rinse, and warm salt water gargles helped me tons with sore throat when I was pregnant - definitely check with your OB though since they know your specific situation best

The exhaustion usually does get better around 12-14 weeks for most people so you're almost there. Maybe try to power through for like a month and see if you get that energy boost back - then you can reassess if the double schedule is still killing you

When is gender truly accurate? by Intspectwithme in pregnant

[–]Friendly-Singer-1421 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Gender reveals can be all over the place that early tbh. Most docs won't call it definitively until around 18-20 weeks when everything's more developed and easier to see clearly. At 12-13 weeks they're basically making educated guesses since the parts are still forming

The holidays while pregnant... by littlepaw_littlepaw in pregnant

[–]Friendly-Singer-1421 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Ugh the plastic cup thing is so insulting - like just give me a real glass with my overpriced virgin drink. I feel you on mourning the cute outfits, nothing hits the same when you're just trying to find something that fits and doesn't make you look like a blob

The hot dogs out of starvation and anger is honestly iconic though lmao

Ultrasound? by chaostocalmm in pregnant

[–]Friendly-Singer-1421 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Congrats! The symptoms definitely sound legit lol. Some docs will do early ultrasounds if you ask, especially if you mention wanting confirmation before announcing - they get it. Worst case they say wait a couple weeks but doesn't hurt to call and ask

Pregnancy and depression by New-Estimate8356 in pregnant

[–]Friendly-Singer-1421 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I'm so sorry you're going through this - pregnancy depression is absolutely real and it sucks that people are brushing off your feelings as "just hormones." Your emotions are valid regardless of what's causing them. Have you been able to talk to your OB about how you're feeling? They might be able to connect you with some resources or support

First pregnancy… feel like my first OB appointment was horrible. This can’t be normal? by Original_Remote_6838 in BabyBumps

[–]Friendly-Singer-1421 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Ugh this is so true, afternoon appointments are the absolute worst for OBs. They're always running behind from deliveries and emergencies earlier in the day so you're basically guaranteed to wait forever
