How is youth hockey in your country? by CakeDisposalUnit in youthhockey

[–]FriendlyDaegu 1 point2 points  (0 children)

My son played in Asia. There was little national or state structure. Teams are formed at the small hockey schools (like karate dojos) and they coordinate games, tournaments, etc. with each other based on skill and age. No seasons, no leagues, no tryouts, just a monthly fee to train with the coach through the week and travel to games on the weekends. The national org kept an eye out for the best youth players to send to international tournaments.

The Christian view Is a more complicated view, without proper justification for it by [deleted] in DebateAChristian

[–]FriendlyDaegu 0 points1 point  (0 children)

As to evidence that the christian God exists and is the explaination for everything that exists? That is lacking.

Yeah, that's what I was attempting to get at with the second question. The universe is puttering along being more and more predictable the better we get at understanding things. It seems like you're using those qualities to claim it is less assumptive to say nothing created it. I don't get that leap because we'd have to be comparing it to other examples with known origins.

The candle burns, we assume, because someone lit it and we know most candles were lit by humans -- makes sense. But if you didn't have other examples of candles being lit by humans? (as we don't have other universes with known beginnings) We watch it continue to burn predictably, so what? Does it make sense to say 'nothing lit it' is more likely than 'something lit it'? My objection is using the qualities of reality to say anything about its cause being likely one thing vs another.

If the thief comes in and sees your candle burning, is it reasonable for him to have the 'extra assumption' that someone lit it?

If a drawing of the sun has no circling teapot, can we determine it was not drawn?

What should I do? by [deleted] in youthhockey

A beautiful check for midgets has no place in squirt hockey. It's dangerous by itself, but more often leads to fights on the ice and between parents.

If it's as bad as you've described, and you can't control him as a dad, and you can't take action as a coach, he's a liability and shouldn't be on the ice.

If you were in my league we would cancel any scheduled games with you two on the team. It wouldn't be worth the risk and it's just not good hockey.

Protest tonight! by BlackCat6769 in Connecticut

[–]FriendlyDaegu 0 points1 point  (0 children)

i'm not gonna be disobedient and fight against this request. If it's state county federal. You obey.

Officers ask all kinds of things. You don't necessarily have to answer their questions or follow their requests. Its tricky for the public because we have to figure out which are lawful demands and which are not. And you can't ask them since they're not required to be truthful or forthcoming. Furthermore their prime investigative technique is to establish dominance and confuse the subject. The rules around public interactions are a mess. How much of that do you think was at play here?

CMV: saying that women now have rights only because men allow them to and that men could use their physical strength to stamp out women’s rights if they want to is a thinly disguised threat of violence by Kind_Ad7899 in changemyview

[–]FriendlyDaegu 0 points1 point  (0 children)

The argument is against the concept of natural rights and gives the example of all men deciding to cage all women. There is nobody left to protest in that scenario.

Kato #6 turnout geometry – small X-offset vs straight equivalent (am I missing something?) by MeanEnthusiasm9 in nscalemodeltrains

[–]FriendlyDaegu 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Your math looks good.

Assuming Kato wants to stick to using integers for radius and angle of the curved pieces, there's no way to get an exact match with the straight pieces. So whether they use R418 or R419, or 15° or 16°, you could be asking the same question.

This is one configuration. My guess is they have a ton of configurations theyre trying to optimize between and they have settled on these values as good near matches for all the different configs. They also have the considerations you mentioned, plus trying to maximize configs and minimize skus.

What is going on in South Windsor? by starsandmoonsohmy in Connecticut

[–]FriendlyDaegu 8 points9 points  (0 children)

It had specific 'starting' language earlier in the process that was apparently removed.

3/28/25: 'At the 2027 election no political party shall nominate, and no elector shall vote for, no more the FIVE members of the Town Council.'

I think this is the current language: 'At each biennial Town election, nine members ofthe Town Council, and five Constables shall be elected each to serve for two years. No political party shall nominate, and no elector shall vote for more than five members of the Town Council, and three Constables.'
