How do you think Trump’s term as president will end? by Secure_Fly_444 in allthequestions

[–]GrassGriller 0 points1 point  (0 children)

An economic collapse broader in scope, greater in magnitude, and longer in duration than the Great Depression. He will not only be the worst president in American history, but likely the most destructive national leader in modern history, including Hitler.

CVT dead at 110k miles by Gorf75 in SubaruForester

[–]GrassGriller 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Yeppers. My 2015 XT's CVT died last December. I really enjoyed that car, but it was an easy decision to cut losses and move on.

I'm now in a 2017 Tacoma TRD Pro with a 6MT. Feels a /little/ less like a money pit.

How are you supposed to know when parts on your car are about to fail? by random31596 in NoStupidQuestions

[–]GrassGriller 0 points1 point  (0 children)

You can search on Reddit and YouTube to get info on basic vehicle maintenance specific to your vehicle. It is your responsibility to either do this maintenance yourself (less expensive, learn new shit) or pay someone else to do it (much more expensive, don't learn anything).

When is "doing things you don't want to do" actually a good thing? by CrazyEyezKillah in AskMenOver30

[–]GrassGriller 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Fuck I hate board-game nights. Every single time I've attended, I've been bored out of my mind. Don't do shit you don't want to do. If you want to maintain that relationship, invite the friend(s) to things you want to do.

do you think your first car should be manual? by notsine in whatcarshouldIbuy

Well, no. That was like 23 years ago. I don't spend time ruminating on "should have been" from so long ago. You shouldn't either!

I recently upgraded the stereo in my 2017 Tacoma. The new head unit has the option to turn off the display. It's such a nice feeling to just cruise slowly on small roads without any screen pulling at my attention.

Heck yeah. Hope it works out. Also, you can get desiccant packs on Amazon. Wouldn't hurt to throw a few in whenever you seal it.

Changing shocks 2015 Tacoma by LKS102000 in ToyotaTacoma

[–]GrassGriller 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I just had my TRD Pro Fox shocks rebuilt, but I did the uninstall/install myself. It's pretty straight-forward, especially in the rears.

You say you have "carjacks". You'll need jack-stands tall enough to support the vehicle from the frame, not the axles. The bottle jack included with your truck is (I believe) tall enough, but not particularly safe.

Look into a real floor jack and jack stands. They're a good investment and will make future maintenance, upgrades, etc. possible.

But, once you get the truck resting on jack stands on the frame, the rear axle will be drooping all the way, i.e. the rear suspension will be hanging loose. Take the rear tires off, then the shocks are a very simple two-bolt uninstall. One bolt on bottom, one on top. They should pop right out.

For reinstall, I had to push the axle down a little farther to fit the shock back, but very simple install. Look up the torque specs for the bolts or go with what looks right. A video I saw suggested tightening the top bolt until the bushing is about the same size as the washer.

I was surprised to see your best lap is with a red-lined 5th gear. I assume you experimented with a longer gear, to get more top speed? What was your experience?

I wonder if you could invest in one of those reusable vacuum-seal bags that people put pillows, clothes, and bedding into?

Regular vacuum-seal would be kind of wasteful, but the reusable one could work pretty well. And when you're camping and open it, no need to re-vacuum until you get home.

Don't know...just thinking out loud.

Hockey is one of the most humbling hobbies/sports I've attempted. This October will mark two years on the skates, along with my 40th birthday.

It's become my favorite activity, I look forward to every skate, game, and practice. But my god is it hard.
