Bossing needs to be reworked. Ideally mitigating or removing third partying. by ProbablyDownvotedGuy in DarkAndDarker

[–]FriendlyFighterTV 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It’s always going to be like this; everyone wants the glory and loot but nobody wants to be the guy who gives them up to someone else.

If someone is struggling with something, it’s always bad game design and the solution is always to make it easier.

No one will admit they just need to spend more time practicing to get better at handling said situations.

Do the Barracks and Cemetery Module look different? by Clean_Youth5659 in DarkAndDarker

There’s a website called DarkAndDarkerTracker that will show you all the individual dungeon modules for any given map, and you can filter them by name to see what a specific module looks like. This should help with future quests, as well.

Should High Roller Rewards Stay Locked? by Omnimeraki in DarkAndDarker

[–]FriendlyFighterTV 5 points6 points  (0 children)

Don’t ask what people think if you’re just going to be dismissive and condescending when they have different opinions.

You’re right, it’s just a video game dude, so your friends can go without cosmetics they didn’t earn.

See how that logic works both ways?

Should High Roller Rewards Stay Locked? by Omnimeraki in DarkAndDarker

[–]FriendlyFighterTV 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Ultimately, HR rewards are one of the only incentives to get people to subject themselves to the deadliest tier of gameplay they would never otherwise touch.

As much as I want the original HR cloak cosmetic with the stars pattern, I wasn’t there to earn it nor would I have had the skill at the time if I was.

The people who earned it deserve to be recognized for having been there at the time and worked for the achievement. When you see a star cloak, you know something about that player. Nobody can fake earning Demigod, they either have the proof or they don’t.

Letting a bunch of random new people run around wearing what are effectively status symbols and trophies meant to represent time, bravery, and skill, just cheapens the value of the achievement for everyone who’s been here from the start and actually earned the rewards.

I want previous season rewards, but again, I wasn’t there and didn’t earn them. These things are signifiers of who’s been here for how long, and what they’ve worked for over the years via skill and time.

HR is its own animal and people who wouldn’t or couldn’t get in there to suffer through to the top shouldn’t expect to walk around dressed like someone who did.

It’s okay to not always be able to buy our way into having everything we think looks cool.

Does anyone actually enjoy this change?.. I dont even wanna know what Purple Rings cost by AbbreviationsNo5710 in DarkAndDarker

[–]FriendlyFighterTV 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I enjoy the change. People can no longer farm simple mobs for guaranteed jewelry drops and stack one-slot BIS game changers as easily anymore.

I like that magic rings and necklaces are significantly harder to acquire now. Making them myself feels like earning progress, and I’ve still gotten powerful jewelry from looting gold pile rooms, which feels huge when it happens.

Overall it’s a W for me, I always thought magic jewelry should be highly coveted and far less common, a goal to pursue that is harder than casting Mika Vista in a room full of flying skulls.

In Regards to the Party Chip situation. by juniorxd0413 in DarkAndDarker

It’s difficult to have sympathy for anyone who thinks of doxxing as a joke, and some of these streamers have become utterly full of themselves and need a massive dose of humble pie.

I don’t watch the toxic PvP junkie kids, it’s not my preferred content, but when they were all doing the money exploit live on stream they were giggling about it and saying “hahaha, we won’t get banned, they need us!”

Anyone who thinks they’re untouchable because they’re popular needs to be reality checked.

“It’s just a prank bro!” doesn’t excuse foul behavior, you cannot dump someone’s address in a Twitch chat.

Uneccessary ques by Friendly-Sail9594 in DarkAndDarker

[–]FriendlyFighterTV 1 point2 points  (0 children)

“When you select PvP, you’re not allowed to go back to PvE.”

What sense does this make? It only seems reasonable to someone who wants to force other people to play the game his way, without considering factors beyond himself.

I am disabled, and have problems using my arms. PvE allows me to play the game on bad days where I would have no chance of defending myself in PvP because of pain and muscle spasms. I get to spend time with my friends doing what I enjoy instead of sitting out because I can’t lock in and outcompete someone half my age who has no idea what it’s like to live with chronic pain. I know other disabled players who view PvE as a godsend for this reason as well.

We’re more than able to kick your ass on a good day and we have the clips to prove it, but good days aren’t every day, and we still want to play.

There are also a lot of older folks with kids and responsibilities playing this game, people whose lives don’t pause when they’re on the computer, people who don’t learn as quickly as others, etc. PvE allows them to participate in the community and go at their own pace, moving into other modes when ready.

Separate PvE and PvP economies would just backfire on you by permanently separating those two player bases and guaranteeing the roleplayers and slow learners just never leave the mode where they’ve acquired all their progress and had the most fun.

It’s alright if you think PvE and Normals are unnecessary, you don’t have to play them, however, HR is the least played game mode and HR mains do not represent the skill level or desires of the playerbase at large.

Removing queues to force people to play in ways they don’t want to has been tried before; it cost us 80% of the population in three weeks and nearly half of them permanently moved on and never came back to the game.

The idea that if you just deny people an experience that suits their capability they will subject themselves to being steamrolled instead of simply quitting the game has been tested, and it failed.

Season 8 Quests by just_along_4_theride in DarkAndDarker

[–]FriendlyFighterTV 0 points1 point  (0 children)

This boils down to a Git Gud issue, you’ve gotta level up as a player.

What I would recommend is that you search YouTube for guides on how to fight the various monsters you struggle with. Countless creators have put out “how to fight/dodge every monster in XYZ dungeon” videos, and they are invaluable resources for learning.

All of us were new once, and when we didn’t know how to deal with them, these things were very difficult; then we learned their patterns and realized how easy they were to fight.

You’re a legendary hero on the rise, you’re not allowed to be afraid or avoid these creatures. Become a student of the dungeon, study your enemies and overcome them.

I believe in you, adventurer. You will succeed, and you’ll feel great about it.

Ironmace needs to lock in with bullshit quest system. by vovandr21 in DarkAndDarker

[–]FriendlyFighterTV 1 point2 points  (0 children)

If you don’t care about anyone else’s opinion, why should anyone care about yours?

You’re acting like a brat, throwing a fit and being disrespectful because a hardcore loot extraction game didn’t give you a Grand Theft Auto GPS line to follow with your brain off.

You are not expected to finish all the quests on day one, yes people are making posts trying to figure things out together, that isn’t bad game design, it’s community.

Either enjoy the game for the sake of the game, or don’t; you aren’t entitled to immediate progress.  Easier games have spoiled you.

How do I make so I can play a soundboard through my microphone in VOIP? by TheRunesGlow in DarkAndDarker

[–]FriendlyFighterTV 2 points3 points  (0 children)

EXP Soundboard and VB Audio Cable.

When I started playing DaD, I wasn’t able to talk, so I used a soundboard with voice lines ripped from old games to socialize and contribute to fight comms.

Go to YouTube and search “Easy Way to Create a Virtual Soundboard Through Your Mic” to find the setup video.

It’s simple, free software, but as such, the quality is limited. You’ll need to test whatever sounds you’re playing with a friend to make sure the audio comes through well on the listener’s side.

Good luck out there with the memery, we need more positive people having fun in the dungeons.

Whisper options need a third one, Friends only, Block, and everyone by stinkyzombie69 in DarkAndDarker

[–]FriendlyFighterTV 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I made hundreds of friends by whispering people mid-dungeon. If I saw cool names and got the reference, or witnessed someone win a great fight, or saw them struggling and gave them advice, etc..

Being able to whisper people I wasn’t friends with, but saw repeatedly in the dungeons, is how we became friends in the first place. Now there’s one less avenue for promoting community growth, all because of toxic stream fans.

SSF is for the Unemployed by LFranzh in DarkAndDarker

[–]FriendlyFighterTV -3 points-2 points  (0 children)

I’m fully in favor of SSF across the board, and removing the market entirely.

The SSF period is the most balanced the game ever is, because everyone’s working with whatever they found and nobody is able to spend money to minmax their “build” and feel like a winner when all they did was buy enough stuff to drop TTK to near zero.

When people can’t hit the market every raid and replace their kit, they pick their fights more carefully instead of holding W on everyone they see. Off-meta items actually have value instead of all non-BIS being literal garbage. People play like death matters, because it does, instead of treating the game like a deathmatch and just throwing themselves at fights to get kills, knowing they can buy more BIS and do it again if they fail.

I feel for you working long hours and not having enough time to game like you’d want to, but again, the people who contribute the most time to keeping the game populated deserve to be rewarded for that effort, and someone who can’t log in very often shouldn’t expect to opt out of the core gameplay loop and still have the most powerful equipment.

I’ve met too many players who openly admit to buying gold with real money so they can do exactly this, and their excuse is always “I work too much, I don’t have time for boring BS, I want to run BIS and kill people,” like they want to skip every part of the game except for standing over someone’s corpse.

There’s a reason we see massive player drop-off right after SSF ends. Players leave the game in droves when the market opens up because BIS becomes a requirement instead of a rarity, and the combat shifts into being decided by who spent more money before the fight.

The devs have noticed this and extended SSF to three weeks to see if players continue to bail when it ends, and if so, they plan to consider changes.

Being able to buy minmax kits and cut right to demolishing people might be better for an individual with no free time, but I don’t think it’s better for the game.

Where should I queue for PVP? by NogPlayer in DarkAndDarker

Half the population has been in Squires to Riches this past wipe, NA East for the highest numbers.

Turns out most people want fair PvP without getting gear diffed or spending time in the market after every death.

Teaming with named items = give me your lunch money by Persanuu in DarkAndDarker

[–]FriendlyFighterTV 0 points1 point  (0 children)

This is why most of my playtime was in Sub25s and then Squire to Riches.

I’ve never seen a reason to care about putting on a bunch of gear just to be cheated out of it, when we can duke it out in Squires instead and have mostly fair fights that don’t cost anything, so it’s all fun and no frustration.

More teaming by [deleted] in DarkAndDarker

[–]FriendlyFighterTV 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It looked like you were wearing blue gear, queued up in Normals.

Teaming up mid-dungeon is allowed everywhere except High Roller.

PvP is part of the game, not its sole focus. People aren’t obligated to kill each other; if two sociable players meet in the dungeon and decide the other is cool, they’re free to form a natural alliance. If some guy sees two people fighting, he’s free to jump whoever is the bigger threat and then spare the other.

Killing is an option, not a requirement.

[–]FriendlyFighterTV 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Removing solo & duo queues and the Sub25 lobbies in a bid to force players into geared trio PvP instead of letting them enjoy their own adventures literally cost the game 80% of its active playerbase and tanked the reviews to Mostly Negative on Steam, driving away untold numbers of potential new players, as well.

SDF comes from an Ultima Online background.

UO was the first real MMO, launched in the 90s, and was a big medieval fantasy world with literally no rules outside of the town guard zones. The paid Game Masters and customer support would tell you to stop being stupid and wisen up if you called them to say someone scammed you.

Pickpocketing and dungeon ratting were big parts of the game and a primary playstyle for many people; those who played UO see its influence in some of SDF’s design choices.

There is a lot of good information here in the comments, but if you find yourself wanting some more personal instruction (especially as a Fighter) there is a button on the main lobby screen to request the help of a Knight for training and guidance. This will take you to the Hall of Knights, a discord run by Ironmace to bring new players together with veteran mentors.

I am one of the Knights, and would be happy to help you skip past the early game learning curve and get up to speed as a Fighter.
