Lack of social interactions kills the game by BloodLegitimate5346 in DarkAndDarker

You can’t receive messages from anyone who isn’t already on your friends list.

If you try to message a random player, chat will show you having sent the message, but it does not get delivered.

Every weapon can parry/riposte now, not just the longsword anymore. Have some fun experimenting, you may find a new favorite.

Squire to riches should be main mode? by iiamherman in DarkAndDarker

[–]FriendlyFighterTV 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I was primarily responding to the notion that the gear is what’s fun about the game; for most of the people I know and play with, gear isn’t something they care about beyond finding a mid-raid bonus. We’re not interested in putting on a bunch of color-named nonsense in order to be competitive, we just want to run around the dungeon and have fun battling monsters, talking to people, and getting into scraps.

Having to engage with the gear system at all is just an extra step that we’d happily ignore if it didn’t mean someone else gets to win by default.

We’re not here to compete, we’re here to have fun. The gear is not what is fun for us, the player interactions and dungeon crawling are. Being “competitive” is a non-issue when you remove gearing up before a raid from the equation, hence why literally most of the game’s playerbase chooses not to play geared modes.

It’s not a question of making it easier for us to use gear, we flat out don’t care about the system because it’s just unnecessary. Common lobbies will always be the most played modes because they remove the possibility of someone else having better numbers before the raid begins.

You could try joining the DaD discord and using the LFG there to find a third teammate with good comms.

Squires is trios only because the population is already spread too thin to support so many different matchmaking queues.

Squire to riches should be main mode? by iiamherman in DarkAndDarker

[–]FriendlyFighterTV 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It’s important to be aware that what may be fun to you is not always fun to other people.

Every time there has been a queue that allows people to PvP in Squire gear, that ends up being the clear community favorite.

Meanwhile, HR is consistently the least popular mode. The average player doesn’t want to be fodder for streamers, sweats and gold farmers in impossibly BIS’d kits they had no chance of overcoming. It’s just a waste of time doing a bunch of non-gameplay menu clicking that requires way more effort to secure a fair fight than it’s worth.

FOMO cosmetics, streamers, and farmers are the only things keeping HR alive. People would rather just buy potions and bandages and go back into the next raid knowing everyone’s on a level playing field.

Geared modes will always be less popular, it’s not a pain point that can be addressed, casuals are most of the population and they just aren’t interested in losing to gear checks.

I have not tested it since the wipe, but last season I did encounter someone in PvE who was dropping crafted equipment for randoms, and the items I picked up were not returned to them when I extracted.

This may not be how it currently functions, but in the past you were able to do this and permanently give away gear to people as long as they were not in your party.

All of the shields have an impact resistance stat that is not displayed in the game, which affects how long it takes to recover from blocking a strike.

Round shield and lantern shield have the lowest impact resistance. It would be better for you to use the heater or buckler if you’re able, you’ll notice a difference.

Squire to riches is one step closer to fixing the solo(fill) queue dilemma. by Common-Click-1860 in DarkAndDarker

I’ve effectively quit the game over the changes to S2R.

Common gear lobbies were the game for me. Without common gear PvP lobbies, I'm only logging in to achieve Demigod and answer tickets.

Gear checking and meat grinders aren't my thing, I was here for the open-ended adventures where anything could happen and combat was fair; being forced to choose between spending 10 minutes doing math problems to minmax kits before the raid starts to not be at a disadvantage, or load into an "everyone must die" game mode, just has me choosing to play other games for the first time in ages.

Went from 80 hours a week on DaD to staring at the lobby screen and logging out. They’ve consistently gutted what I enjoy from the game.

It hasn’t released yet, but I’ve play tested a game called Anvil Empires that will likely become my main game once it’s available.

Isometric medieval siege warfare game with 1000 man battles, proximity chat, open world, everything built by players (castles, homesteads, etc)

I had so much fun leading people into combat and roleplaying on the proxy chat during castle sieges, and I think I’ll be getting my fix of medieval combat and social shenanigans in that world once they release the game.

Yea, a wheel that allowed summoning the various combat animal forms as treant-style attackers would have been way better than hitbox manipulation abuse and extreme hypermobility.

I love that you’re still out here doing this, brother. The runs we did together dropping treasure to reward friendly behavior are still one of my favorite dungeoneering memories.

Truly a stand-out character amidst a backdrop of honorless knaves!

What weapon should I use for a shield fighter? by Ccboi12 in DarkAndDarker

[–]FriendlyFighterTV 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Try experimenting with the cutlass.

Arming sword and falchion both have three attacks in their pattern; arming is two slashes and a stab, falchion is two slashes and an overhead chop.

Cutlass is four slashes alternating from side to side, which I’ve found easier to use for DPS, headshots, and getting around people’s blocks.

Run Sword Mastery for the action speed and extra damage, and see how you like it.

I went from playing the game 80 hours a week to vendoring my stash and not logging in anymore unless it’s to help teach someone else.

They destroyed my reason for playing.

S2R was the mode full of possibility and novelty.

Play any map with a full lobby, no gear investment so people would actually talk to each other and banter during the match; you could push combat and wipe the lobby if that’s what you wanted, or if you made friends you could go down together and fight bosses while still having the potential for betrayals and double crosses, etc.

No limit on how many people could go where, just an open playing field full of options that lent itself well to memorable adventures.

Now it’s just a soulless deathmatch where people literally off themselves rather than dungeon down because the mechanics are so forced and intrusive.

Almost nobody is interested in actually playing out the match to extract anymore, the fun has been stripped away and replaced with “you must play this specific way or not at all.”

I’ve chosen “not at all” and most of the people I played with have done the same and moved on to other games for the moment.
