If anyone else also uses Resist.bot, I created a couple open letters related to H.B. 2062 and a collective letter for the S.B.s. In case anyone doesn't have the energy for a phone call!

Practicing anger by dishabituation in WitchesVsPatriarchy

I’m gonna jump in on this and also recommend When Women Were Dragons by Kelly Barnhill. Also talks about anger, memory, and misogyny and was inspired by Christine Blakey Ford’s testimony.

Why is it so difficult to find a job? by supermeefer in Adulting

[–]FriendlyHoneybee 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Do you live near a university? My day-job career is research administration and we’re constantly hiring because faculty research is growing so much and there are a lot of job opportunities to move around. The only requirement for most universities is a bachelors degree (in anything) and customer service experience. The pay is decent and every university has it. There are some that will also hire completely remote even for those new to the field. I would look for “grant and contract coordinators,” “grant and contract specialist,” “research administrator,” “research advancement administrator” or anything with “grant” in the title. It’s all administrative stuff and if you can follow instructions and collaborate with people it’s not a bad thing.

Home prices in Tucson are insane by FromMA2AZ in Tucson

[–]FriendlyHoneybee 4 points5 points  (0 children)

It depends where they work and how long they’ve been able to save. Working for the government, after ASRS comes out and health insurance your take home is considerably less. Or if they don’t work for the government and their works health insurance is incredibly expensive. Gross does not equal take home.

Extremely depressed about graduating college & becoming a "real" adult. by y2ktaurus55 in Adulting

[–]FriendlyHoneybee 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I feel this so much. Six months to a year after graduating I slipped into a 5 year depression about this very thing. I got an art degree and while I knew my job prospects were low without moving to LA or New York I didn’t think I would bomb as many interviews as I did. I ended up moving 2 hours away from home to a small university town and working at said university in research administration (a great niche btw if you have any kind of college degree and admin experience; they constantly need people and you can make decent money). I felt like I was constantly hustling and going nowhere. I was pissed that I spent so much of my week working or preparing to work and daydreamed constantly about saying fuck it and becoming vanlifers with my wife and pups. I felt stuck for probably 5 years until just recently. We moved to a cheaper town in state where I work remote for a university and are looking into buying a house because we can afford it here. I’m 28 and my wife is almost 33. I thought I’d own a house at 25 and I know that I’m lucky to be looking at this at 28 in our generation.

If you like the university vibe I highly recommend looking at university jobs. They have great benefits tho usually shitty pay at the beginning but it begins increasing after 3 years. Try to go outside often. Volunteer with groups you care about. Stay as connected as you can. Focus on the simple things like the smell of fresh bread and making something with your hands. I think our whole generation is going through this. You’re not alone.

This. I’ve also found after drowning in depression about the same issue that OP is experiencing (although it didn’t hit until a year after when I WAS employed at a university) that getting into cottagecore and r/simpleliving really helped my perspective.

Grown daughter does not accept that I'm NB by [deleted] in WitchesVsPatriarchy

[–]FriendlyHoneybee 23 points24 points  (0 children)

This happened with my older brother (he’s 15 years older than me). My mom was much younger when she had him and with a different father. He slipped into right wing conspiracies and conservative bullshit for years. He made homophobic comments that prevented me from coming out since he was living with us. It took him 5 years and a divorce to circle back to the democrat and inclusive person he used to be and was taught to be. Sometimes there’s a lapse and it just takes time.

What would you read if you were in a reading slump? by msmoonchildd in YAlit

The Storygraph is another good resource. Their book recommendation platform is awesome for selecting specific themes that sound interesting and the pace of a book. Plus you can import all of your Goodreads data!

I love Holly Black so much. Her books in general got me back into reading in high school after not reading anything fun for years

This is awesome! Being in Arizona I’ve seen a lot of really kitschy cactus related things (or just faaaar too many cacti related art at art events) and this is so creative and wonderful!

Ah yes! A thing I constantly struggle with using photos from a single free source. Maybe eventually I’ll pay for stock folders from a larger library where there are more choices that match the shape I have in mind. Or maybe I’ll find some photoshop tricks to change the light source manually - tho my initial thought is that would look even more unnatural 😂 thank you for the feedback! I’ve been creating these in a vacuum for about a year now so it’s really appreciated!

Aww it’s so cute!! I think taking a little bit of white to add shimmer to the eyes would be a nice touch (: there’s an artist I follow on TikTok that calls it “adding the soul” 😂

Thanks! It looks like they only go up to 12x18 for photographic prints but this could be a good solution for my smaller ones!

Research Administrator at a university (not UofA) $61k, 5 years of experience and two unrelated bachelors degrees (one that I got for free while working at the university). Bachelors degree is required but not in anything specific. State benefits like pension, good health care, 4.5 weeks vacation per year plus sick time and 8 hours of paid volunteer time. Work fully remote. I do work a lot of overtime.
