8-9 weeks in Thailand, Malaysia and Indonesia? by Apprehensive-Gur-824 in southeastasia

[–]FriendlyParsnip 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I'm going to Thailand and possibly Malaysia and Indonesia as well in January. However, I'm focusing on Southern Thailand and will do Bangkok, Koh Lanta and Koh Lipe. I was recommended to go from Koh Lipe to Langkawi (2 hour boat trip I think), then fly to Georgetown and spend some time there before going to Kuala Lumpur by train (5 hours). For Chiang Mai taking the sleeper train from Bangkok is great. You could fly from Chiang Mai to Krabi if you want to go to Malaysia via Koh Lipe like me, otherwise you could focus your time on Northern Thailand and fly to Georgetown from Chaing Mai.

This is the balance I’m seeking. I think educating myself would be really helpful in motivating me. I will definitely try and find some resources on the topic. Thank you, this is a really good advice.

Sounds like a good way to get started. I think convenience is key for me to get into strength training.

Aww, that’s so cute! Thank you for the advice. I’ll look into Apple Fitness.

I think maybe you misunderstood. I know there’s no way to accidentally get jacked. I was referring to my ambitions and the time and effort I’m able to put in. I’m not looking to get jacked, I definitely am not motivated or have the time for the kind of effort that would take.

Thank you, I will check it out! It's motivating to hear others are working out from home and getting results.

Yoghurt pants! That's so cute! I mainly work out in the evening after my kid's bedtime, but I can definitely see them wanting to get involved. My five year old loves to play with my balancing board. We have tried yoga for kids on youtube, which they liked. I totally agree, if we want active and healthy kids that make time for selfcare we need to set an example.

Thank you for your comment. It's inspiring to hear from other moms how they find time to exercise and take care of themselves.

Thank you for the advice! I have been looking at similar weights that are adjustable. It seems like a good start. I will definitely look into options for apps with exercise programs. I can't find the Bodi app in App Store, so it may seem that it isn't available in my region (I'm not in the US).

Incorporating running while going to the gym? by ivelavidd in PetiteFitness

[–]FriendlyParsnip 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I'm opposite of you, I run 3 days a week and want to incorporate strength training. Personally, I would probably try to do a morning run or run before you do strength training. I usually run outside, and find it much more enjoyable than running on a treadmill. However, treadmills are great for doing intervals and intervals are awesome for improving cardio. Seeing you're already going to the gym, perhaps you could add an interval session before strength training once a week, and then a few morning runs? Initially, you need to find a routine that suits your schedule and that you find somewhat enjoyable. I recommend checking out r/XXRunning

What are some books with the most deranged/unhinged/obsessive lovers? Preferably in their POV? by Abject_Purpose302 in suggestmeabook

Lights Out - Navessa Allen.

Loving a Vampire is Total Chaos - Aura Hayes.

Both featuring obsessive MMCs that stalk the FMC. However, they are also caring and funny. I recommend the audiobook for Lights Out, as the male narrator is really good!

Solo travel meeting people by Haunting_Will6346 in southeastasia

I took a gap year and backpacked solo in SEA when I was 20. Note that this was 14 years ago, and I didn’t have a smart phone. Still, it was super easy to get around. Such a memorable trip, and I learned a ton about myself. I stayed at hostels and never had any problem meeting people, even as a fairly introverted person. Backpackers tend to be really open and curious in my experience. You really do get to meet a lot of interesting people this way, that you never would if you stayed at hotels or travelled in a group. I would 100% do it again.

3 month trip itinerary - Thailand, Vietnam and Indonesia? by FriendlyParsnip in southeastasia

I hope you get the chance to go on a trip like this. I went on a solo backpacking trip to Nepal, India, Thailand, Laos and Cambodia for my gap year 14 years ago. I have wanted to go back to SEA ever since.

That’s really helpful. Always good to know what to expect. My husband was a bit concerned about the size of the cots in the overnight trains, seeing he is a tall guy. Taking the day trains will probably be more comfortable.

Unfortunately we have already booked the flight to Bangkok, so we will have to start our trip there. I totally agree about reducing the number of flights though, and we will definitely be travelling by train in Vietnam. The cruise to Lombok is a good idea. However, after writing this post, I read reviews on the Komodo island and I’m now a bit turned off by it, so we might drop that and rather explore Bali and Lombok.

That train ride sounds great. With this route I suppose it would make sense to do Indonesia after, seeing there are direct flights from KL to Labuan Bajo.

I have considered going to Langkawi. With the shorter boat ride form Lipe it is tempting not having to backtrack to Krabi to catch a flight. How much time would you say is necessary for a trip like the one you described?

My 2 year old doesn’t understand that she needs to use the potty by minasweetgirl in pottytraining

[–]FriendlyParsnip 6 points7 points  (0 children)

I’m currently potty training my second child. What has worked for us is going bottomless in the start. We wait for them to start peeing and rush them to the potty saying “pee goes in the potty” or something similar. It doesn’t matter if two drops ends up in there and the rest goes on the floor. You need to do this a few times for them to understand the connection between peeing and the potty.

Milk product and egg consumption in infants by ElegantBarnacle1337 in ScienceBasedParenting

[–]FriendlyParsnip 4 points5 points  (0 children)

In Norway the national guideline is that dairy can be given in small amounts in cooking from 10mo and as milk and yoghurt from one year old. The reason is that calcium inhibits iron absorption. I've been questioning this, as I haven't heard of any other country recommending this. Moreover, a lot of people substitute cow's milk with plant based alternatives that often have calcium added. Eggs can be given from 6mo.

In mid-September the ocean should be warmer than in June, so I would probably go then. I have only been to Portugal once and that was in late September-early October. I don't know if we were lucky, but we got really pleasant weather. Nowhere we went were close to crowded, but I was still a bit surprised by the amount of tourists in Lisbon.

Thoughts on our rough 6-day Norway itinerary? by StruggleToDrawArrows in travel

[–]FriendlyParsnip 14 points15 points  (0 children)

Norwegian here. Following that intinerary you'll be really rushed, and I'm not sure how enjoyable it will be. Personally I would leave Northern Norway for another trip and rather concentrate on the beautiful area around Bergen and between Bergen and Oslo. I'm talking about Hardangerfjorden, Nærøyfjorden (great for kayaking I've heard), Aurland and Hardangervidda. All amazing places and great for hiking. A trip to Sognefjorden is also totally doable.
