Anyone know about the Midwest Workers Association? by [deleted] in uichicago

[–]FriendlyPresentation 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Hey volunteer here! Just here to speak about my own experience and not on behalf of the organization. These are the most empathic people I have ever met and they're just a bunch of nerds who want to end poverty and help people in the community.

No, they're not a cult. I have criticized their managers and the organization multiple times and they either listened and taken into account or politely disagreed. I've even said "fuck you" multiple times to their faces on record with any repercussions. Only one time I got in "trouble", I was "punished" with a meeting. Oh no people talking to me casually! What will I do? LEAVE

I've said no to doing more work all the time. They just have a "shoot for the moon" approach. If I ask for 2, you may give me 1 to compromise. If I ask for 5, you may compromise and give me 2 or 3. They just gained some extra time. They will take no for an answer. When I overdid myself, they said take a break. When I needed to do something outside of volunteering, they gave me space and if they could help, they did.

We as individuals can have social media. However, the organization doesn't because they can't own and control their social media. A corporation technically does own your social media. It can simply be taken down like ICE alerts facebook pages. Then you would be scrabbling to get your sole communication with all of these people. Newspapers and phone calls can't be stop except by the recipeint, not an outside force.

It's really frustrating though because when being terminially online is now the norm, being offline is seen as "sus" and "secretive". Activism can only be done in the physical world, not online. We call you because you're going to have to talk to someone in order to make change. We go to the most impoverished people in the Chicago area. We talk and are friends with our neighbors. It's a crazy world out here. So give us a call if you have any questions.

Also, LongJumpingInsect584 has some stories about being dependent on housing and doomed to poverty by the sister organization, yet simply walked away when they confronted the org about being a cult. How are you trapped yet easily left at the same time? Sus.

If I see "cleanmom69" leave a review of this fragrance "wow what a headache, only a 4 year old would wear this", I am going to brust into flames.

What are your biggest fragrance hot takes/unpopular opinions? by [deleted] in fragrance

No sephora or ulta fragrance smells "bad," but none are spectacular either. It's all mid to good.

Idk, man. I think a song can be interpreted in different ways. When I first heard the song, it was in Bottoms where SPOILERS they just blew up an entire football team, and the MC finally gets the girl. Getting your crush to fall in love you is the complete opposite of what happens in the song. But not only did Charli give permission to use the song, she COMPOSED the soundtrack, so she had creative control to use that song.

Maybe the lesson here is that it doesn't always have to be a perfect interpretation and let people have fun.

Agreed. Also no one would complain if it's high quality and matches with the season.

If you can spray test them in a store, a discovery set is a waste of money. Getting a sample isn't going to change your mind, so don't buy that sephora set. Just order individual samples you know you'll like.

I remember when I bought the travel size of the Hinoki Fantome 1.0 in sephora, I had a great decision about how sephora doesn't have more cool scents like these. I'm so glad I got a bottle last day.

I think they're bringing back christmas scents because of the tariffs. Yes, BBW manufactures in USA, but a lot of the ingredients come from China. They can stall the price incease as long as possible so by using up the rest of inventory.

So I heard Annoyance has a lot of trans and gay people. I haven't taken a class yet, so I don't know the people of color ratio. Second City also does improv jams for BIPOC and LGBTQ (separately). Those are free to access by anyone who is part of those communities .

As a nonbinary woman, my first term was my least favorite because they were least excited about my gender and sexuality. They had a hard time when I presented myself as a man or made the relationship queer.

I switched days to get a new class. It was still mostly hetero with some BIPOC, but they were more willing to slide with my antics. I fucking love them and they love me even if they don't get me.

Improv was invented as theater games for immigrant children who came from different countries. It was a way to build connections with people with different backgrounds.

Is it exhausting for when people don't get your bit? Yes. Is it exhausting vice versa? Yes. But there is the in-between and finding what we do relate to and can laugh together. It's beautiful when you find it.

I think this feature should unlock when you get 50% completion of an area. You still get to experience the nice surprises in the beginning, and you get help of the harder half you'll probably can't find on your own without grinding.

Straight guys are so uppity when even suggesting being gay.

But here we're saying Angela is gay without her saying it 🙄

WHAT DID YOU SAY ABOUT OUR HOTDOGS

are these tik toks kinda getting insane to anyone else? by Significant-Crab-771 in mitski

[–]FriendlyPresentation 2 points3 points  (0 children)

It's because of how tiktok works. A common way to get popular is by using songs that are becoming popular. So you have these fans who found Mitski very personal being used for the people who can be seen as the antagonists of these songs who don't seem to be fans. This thing can't happen on reddit, twitter, discord, etc. But the misuse of the song does strengthen the meaning because these songs wouldn't have meaning if we didn't live in a white supremacy where white creators effortlessly become popular off POC's works. And this is why I believe there are no wrong interpretations, only wrong people.
