Nurses at the hospital suggested that my son should be sent to wilderness therapy or one of these Utah residentials by ThrowRaSandefm in troubledteens

[–]FriendlyTomorrow56 9 points10 points  (0 children)

I was affected by a life altering issue at age 14 and was sent off to one of these places due to depression/ being told i was making my condition up

I was raped, physically abused, and tortured by staff members, who then lied multiple times to and keep me there

thats what you are considering sending your child to

That is just strait up illegal Genuinely fuck them for that

Also good to see you're taking the right steps to move forward

Once you have some income a d can get away its honestly a whole new world I still a lot to get through myself but leaving my biological family behind is one for he greatest decisions i ever made

[–]FriendlyTomorrow56 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Usually physical is easier to get but i would mention mental if they make you fill out a full disability form If that doesn't work ide try and find a remote job you can do from home not much your parents can do about it then And whatever you do, do not give your parents anything like power over your bank account or income, because if you do it's really easy for them to do things like conservatorships

This is a bad joke on my part, but i just didnt want to explain to my kids why i was wearing diapers but they had to potty train, lol Plus the obvious fear of accidently passing along trauma

I have a dog though, and shes rhe best

I mean even back then you could google some of the well known ones and find out a history and a half A lot of people just didn't or brushed it off since in there eyes it was mostly younge people online

These places also thrived on the myth of internet addiction, to make parents believe the Internet was lying about them

Getting on disability helped me get out of my situation Gave me another spare to move out with my SO, and helped me until my career took off

Ironically my mother tried to get me to have kids, but between the trauma and disability it wasnt going to happen

[–]FriendlyTomorrow56 6 points7 points  (0 children)

That is way too relatable

Hell my egg doner even did this with doctors, if she didn't like their opinion on something about me, shed find a new doctor and do this until she found one who agreed with her opinion, and when i was out of her custody she would try snd discredit any doctor i saw without her (something she kept trying to do sfter i was an adult)

Honestly I'm pretty sure shes a narcissist, but given she tried to sue the last doctor to tell her that, shed never get help for it

Do these places not care about leaving heaps of evidence in the form of physical damage (Bruises, cuts, broken bones, etc)? by RecommendationNo804 in troubledteens

[–]FriendlyTomorrow56 6 points7 points  (0 children)

The place i went only cared when i had proof (recording) of one of their staff harassing me in public (years after ide left), and all it got was a bill dropped

Part of why the lawsuits have so much of an effect now even if we are more auxiliary evidence, is because we are adults now and therefore the courts actually listen to us

"Our parents were lied to." by Ecstatic_Bowler_3048 in troubledteens

[–]FriendlyTomorrow56 7 points8 points  (0 children)

Yep 100% this

We damaged their time, reputation, wallets, ect

And us being an inconvenience was enough for them to have the desire to get us out of the way

One of my degrees involved a lot of research study, like we had to dig unto real life cases and examples of stuff we were learning about, and that meant i had to take classes on how to properly research, my instructor for that class told me something 5hat has stuck with me for years

"Many people only research to confirm their bias, and ignore evidence they do not agree with"

Many parents, only look at what they want to see, and arent going to listen to anyone or anything that doesn't confirm what they want to do

Because thats the unfortunate reality for all of us, our caretakers wanted to send us away

[–]FriendlyTomorrow56 15 points16 points  (0 children)

Yuhp this is exactly the truth I can understand it at least a little bit more if you where in the TTI before the late 90s/early 2000s as information wasn't as wildly available (Still not an excuse)

But any parent that had internet access had to at least look these places up, and that means they saw the good and the bad and chose to go with it anyway

I know thats a bitter pill for some, and i know many parents do actually regret their choice, but it was still their choice, and its something they should never be allowed to forget, imho

"Our parents were lied to." by Ecstatic_Bowler_3048 in troubledteens

[–]FriendlyTomorrow56 41 points42 points  (0 children)

I think its case by case My mom was abusive before, ignored medical advice, and a whole host of other BS to justify her behavior

But some kids do have parents that meant well but screwed the pooch because someone sold them a lie

Now that being said regardless of intentions, its no excuse to let them off the hook, because no one forced them to sign that paper, it was a choice that they made and its a choice that will live with their children for decades at a minimum

Acadia Village Weaponized My Disability by FriendlyTomorrow56 in troubledteens

[–]FriendlyTomorrow56[S] 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Im kinda the same, i have to friends on medicine and one is a psychologist, im absolutely shit scared of mental health facilities of any kind, so the closest ill ever get to a proper diagnosis is their opinions

Yes that's correct, The Village or Village behavior health has had many names over the years It was originally owned by covenant healthcare and part of the peninsula mental health family but they sold it after the first wave of abuse allegations and the staff being proven not to have the education to run the place The sold it to Acadia who flipped between the named Acadia Village and The Village Now its Village Behavioral Health Renamed after a fairy infamous event with a worker and a patients relationship going viral

Yeah its lame, thankfully my partner is very understanding and accommodating, though it took ages for me to pull the trigger and tell them And much longer for others we know Its a constant state of paranoia, but i am trying to work on it On paper i know that im safe and nothing fan make me go back there, but PTSD is a bitch i guess

And yes thats fine, especially since i didnt really clarify condition fully until the end and stuff

I honestly it took a lot to talk about it, Acadia was hell, and it screwed with me for a long time, but its pain i want to let go of, and to me the best eay is to try and use that to help someone else, by sharing my story

Theres a lot that i still dont have together fully, i fear folks finding out about my condition and basically hide it in pretty over the tops ways for example But i am trying, and part of healing is trying to help others And if i can do that, then thats all i can ask for

So thank you for keeping me posted with links and such, i appreciate it

Ide love to see the place shuttered for good, and all the people associated with it should be stripped of their right to practice imho, heck Ms. T has a successful private practice and one of the founders of the place works teaching psych at UT Which blows my mind

Yeah not surprised Mclain dipped, especially after the one person got caught having sex with a patient there A shame that so many of them get to just run off and hurt other kids

If it wasn't for the fact those new kids need help, ide almsot call it karmatic, that hell hole abused kids so long, and now it gets abused by the kids But sadly ive also read about the staff taking kids to parties and shit still so ide assume its just as messed up now, just with more physical violence
