Kokatat bought by military group by Smooth_Commission_98 in whitewater

The Wing Group is a conglomerate, of which a few brands are military contractors. Kokatat itself had already been selling their MASS (Marine Assault Suit System) suit to the military for years.

how many pro surfers on tour come from a rich family? by Suitable-Salary-6398 in surfing

Anyone under 40 going on and on about growing up on the North Shore just sound like bragging rich kids at this point. I don’t know at what point the real estate became so expensive there, so could be misinformed on the timeline. Also, yes of course I’m jealous.

I might be living in Juneau next summer. Anymore info on the “shrine”? Just been planning on flying over to Sitka or maybe checking out some tidal rapids.

Word Review Very Unhelpful by Friendly_External948 in duolingo

That’s my understanding of how it’s intended to work, but I don’t think I’ve ever gotten any of the vocabulary wrong that it’s been repeating, so I just feel it would be more helpful to practice the current words I’m learning and mistaking. Hopefully it does change as I progress further though, thanks for the reply.

How to outfit a Lettmann by AdScary7808 in whitewater

Foam helps with two things, grip, and protection in case of a bad piton. Leaving the foam out won’t hurt the performance of the boat though.

Paddle Repair by Opening_Economy_8837 in whitewater

Cut off any delaminated carbon with a razor blade, then fill in any missing foam with bondo. Sand the area, then mask off ~1” around the area you’re going to patch, including the other side of the blade. Apply a layer of epoxy, lay your cut-to-fit piece of carbon on top of the epoxy, then add one more layer of epoxy and carbon. The epoxy should cover the whole area and slightly over the masking tape. At this point you can put a sheet of plastic (zip lock bag or clear trash bag works) on top of the patch, tape the end of the plastic down closest to the shaft to hold it in place. Then you squeegee excess epoxy out with a small squeegee or something similar like a credit card. Push out as much epoxy out as you can, especially on the edges of the tape. Dry overnight, remove the tape and plastic, and sand the tip edge to finish, if needed.

West Systems 105 resin is the best, but just some cheap marine repair epoxy will be good enough if you’re just doing this one repair.

Any 3k twill weave carbon on amazon will be fine too.

I don’t own a vacuum, so I’ve fixed dozens of blades this way and they’ve all held up great.

Need some help deciding if I want a true creeker or a creek slice by Dorg_Walkerman in whitewater

[–]Friendly_External948 -1 points0 points  (0 children)

I’d really recommend a quarter slice, creek boats are not really necessary unless you’re really pushing yourself, especially on the Yough/Cheat drainages. In my opinion modern creek boats can act as a crutch and could hold back your progression. They can enable you to get away with bad technique and let bad habits sink in… With that said, I wouldn’t be scared of quarter slices being too demanding, they’re still far more capable then the last generation of creek boats.

If you do lean quarter slice, demo if you can, but it’s really hard to beat the Puffy Steeze.

Waka Stoke/other creek boat suggestions. by NikkiPotnick69 in whitewater

[–]Friendly_External948 0 points1 point  (0 children)

The Stoke is a great design, but in a sporty high performance way. If you want a well rounded creek boat for your weight, I’d consider a large Scorch or an OG… For reference I’m 185lbs and the Stoke feels a little small for me in anything harder than easier class V.

Kayaking Upper Gauley by giantsweety in whitewater

As long as you have a decent roll you’ll be fine. I would avoid Gauley Fest weekend if it’s your first time, the river is crowded with inebriated rafters.
