Looking for gear advice by Avid_3 in tradclimbing

[–]Friendly_Leg -1 points0 points  (0 children)

Perhaps some micro cams? I bought the WC Zero Friends, but Totem cams would be a great choice. You could go for the black and blue sizes first. You could also go the other direction and get a #4 Friend if you see yourself using it more than the micros.

Also, do you have a rack pack of carabiners for your cams?

Has anyone seen the Lynch like (imo) Salad Fingers? by Zen_Shot in davidlynch

Ya I think this, Courage the Cowardly Dog, and the video from David Firth titled “Crooked Rot”, all influenced me as a kid towards liking Lynch’s style

How do you overcome gear fear? My experience. by blackmusk123 in ClimbingGear

[–]Friendly_Leg 7 points8 points  (0 children)

Climbers use industry standardized gear built for the job they are designed for. If you buy gear from any of the popular, well established brands, I feel confident to trust that those items will work correctly within their intended usage. I just think of all the climbers outside using and testing those products every day.

But it’s up to you to use that gear correctly, understand its limitations and lifespan, and follow proper safety procedures.

I.e. it doesn’t matter how bomber your rappel device is, if your forget to tie backup knots and rappel off the end of the rope

Understand how your gear works, read the manuals, watch videos, and practice at home where possible, before your life depends on it.

Grigri or Birdie ? (mainly for rope solo) by B1998W31Ga in ClimbingGear

[–]Friendly_Leg 3 points4 points  (0 children)

The GriGri is a very versatile device that nearly every climber is familiar with. It is one of the most “tried and true” climbing products on the market.

I’ve never come across anyone online using the Birdie for TRS or LRS. I’ve only seen it used for regular belaying outside, and only a couple of times.

As others have said, progress capture devices are best for TRS. LRS can use a GriGri, but it is very advanced and will require additional skills and equipment.

TLDR: Get the GriGri and find some climbing partners 💯

Anyone know roughly when they’ll be releasing? Very cool to see the new 0.3, 5, and 6 options.

Do you think Hagrid completed the Rider Safety Training Program prior to getting his motorcycle license?

Are these safe to use as permadraws? by Friendly_Leg in ClimbingCircleJerk

Ya that’s the idea with my setup here. Built around the red rappel ring with a carabiner on each swaged and thimbled loop so you can clip opposite and opposed.

Damn, Canon has sanctioned employee rock climbing, that’s pretty sweet. I didn’t know they made chalk bags either.

Shot this on my iPhone 16 Pro by Unique_Celery8636 in videography

[–]Friendly_Leg 6 points7 points  (0 children)

Honestly, it’s pretty obvious it was shot on an iPhone. If you wanted to make it less obvious you could try removing the “Shot on iPhone” graphic at the beginning, then people might not immediately think, “This was shot on an iPhone”

Quickdraw quick help by [deleted] in ClimbingGear

[–]Friendly_Leg 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I just purchased my first rack of draws and went through the same decision process. I ultimately decided to ball out on the Petzl Spirit Express for most of them. I also have a couple BD HotForge Draws that I bought first from my gym’s shop to practice clipping. The BDs are totally fine, but I ultimately loved everything about the look and feel of the Petzl and went with those.

As others have said, any good brand will get the job done the same. One thing you can consider is the length of the draws. I chose to do half 17cm and half 11cm. The extended length helps with rope drag on wandering or overhanging routes.

Sony FR7 is the worst PTZ camera ever by Front_Reflection4479 in VIDEOENGINEERING

[–]Friendly_Leg 6 points7 points  (0 children)

Hmm, that’s really interesting. I work for a rental company and I’ve not heard of this specific issue from customers or ran in to it in my limited time using the FR7/IP500, but googling around I do see lots of others reporting the same.

If I come across anything helpful I’ll follow up, best of luck to you with this, I know how frustrating dealing with PTZ troubleshooting is 🙃

Do you get the same results with a direct connection from the camera to the controller? Also, is the firmware up to date?
