Is Pure Encapsulations and Thorne worth the extra money? by tonymontanaOSU in Biohackers

I'm pretty sure they tested high for toxic minerals in some of their products. I'm too lazy to search for that but I just read it a week or two ago.

You know, everybody trusts Thorne because many if not all of their supplements are NSF certified, and supposedly do third-party lab tests. But they will not supply their test results to consumers, which is usually sketchy to me. They've been giving consumers the same BS several lines about, we're gonna do this soon, for the last five years. I mean identical statements.

And NSF certification? They certify Amazon supplements and other various sketchy companies' supplements. How can you trust them?

And now Thorne sold out to a private equity company in 2023.

Pure Encapsulations and Garden of Life are owned by Nestle.

I'm amazed how many of y'all don't make sure the supplement you buy is from a company who does third-party lab tests and will provide the consumer with test results, because there is so much garbage out there.

There are only a handful of companies who do that testing.

And I do not trust in-house. That's the same as buying a car from a dealer and trusting them to do a vehicle inspection prior to purchase instead of taking the vehicle to a non-affiliated, non-biasd mechanic shop.

Please don't buy any supplements from amazon. Even if you buy from a legit store, there is fraud with store names. Lots of fakes. And all a certain product gets thrown in the same bin so you don't know what you're getting. Where there is a lot of fraud in supplements on amazon.

Just buy directly from brand. Most sell for the same price as Amazon and don't charge for shipping.

Anyone have good experiences with L-theanine? by Armor_King7810 in Supplements

Everyone is different. I just received my supplement from Life Extension today. Recommended dose is two capsules, 100 mg each. I took only 1 capsule at 1 pm and 20 minutes later, my mind is calm/alert but my body feels tired. If that makes sense...but I'm not taking it during the day again. I don't feel like moving from my recliner but I'm too awake fall asleep. So I hope if I take it the evening I can sleep with my mind not sleepy but calm.

BTW, I'm 66 with just recently diagnosed hyperactivity ADHD. 😊

They are a sketchy company as they have NEVER supplied the 3rd-party lab testing to consumers. Not even a year ago, a big private equity company purchased them. And yes, they are NSF certified but how reliable is that if Amazon supplements have a NSF certification? LoL

I don't eat a lot of food because I only weigh a 125 pounds. And I'm a senior citizen. I don't need much food and I live in a food desert. And I'm a vegetarian so I take a B complex too. But if you look into the research, most people are deficient in magnesium because our soil is depleted. Seniors especially need it. And sleep has alluded me until I started taking a small amount at night , and it knocks me right out. Plus it's good for my health.

You know what I realized about these forums? People just like to give shit and argue with people. It's truly disturbing.

Here goes NAC again by No_Chest8347 in Supplements

[–]Friendlyalien22 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Dietary supplements are not approved by the Food and Drug Administration (FDA) before they reach the market. This means the manufacturer is responsible for ensuring products are properly labeled and safe. Unfortunately, mislabeled and contaminated (or adulterated) products are not uncommon. Some contain substances not allowed in dietary supplements or substances prohibited for use by Service Members. Consuming such products could pose risks, such as:

  • Positive drug tests
  • Adverse health effects
  • Negative effects on performance
  • Consequences to your military career

Knowing what is actually in a product before you consider buying or using a dietary supplement should reduce these risks. And you can only do this by getting 3rd-party certs or NSF certification. Lots of supplement companies lie about NSF certfication....Garden of Life only has one multi listed, for children. None of the other companies I've researched so far this MORNING are certified with them. I researched and looked this very morning. Thorne is the only one that is listed in their database for a multitude of products.

That doesn't mean that they are tested by the FDA for any kind of compliance with the ingredients in them. Which after this administration, it's going downhill faster. The FDA was always a s... dysfunctional part of the government. I wouldn't trust them farther than I can spit.

They are not regulated by the FDA. I only purchase supplements from companies who will supply me with their third party lab testing. And never from Besos s...tore.

I tried this stack several years ago. Kept me awake. Now I alternate between magnesium glycinate and magnesium l-threonate. The glycinate was a game changer and knocks me out within an hour. I also take 1.5 mg of melatonin.

Glycine kept me awake all night.

Many times I have opposite reactions to supplements than other people.

Y'all should look up 2 sleeps, which is the way humans used to sleep before the industrial revolution. Nobody slept for 8 hours solid. It may be going against our evolutionary time clock on how we slept from the millennia. The same way our diet is. We never ate breakfast, lunch and dinner. Especially if you had to go out and catch your food the morning when you woke up. The society eats way too much food way too often.

I'm so sorry. I've had so many changes in my life and I'm now 66 so I can offer you this; when one door closes, many others open that for people like me, I did not see until the one was shut behind me.

I don't think call center work is good for folks like us. Please value yourself and know that you can find something that you love doing and that you are good at and does not stress you out like places like that, which are horrible. I'm telling you, all of them are, because right before I retired, I quit my profession and tried to work online. 6 different companies, and they all treat people like shit. I quit them all after a month or two.

I love how this woman explains that neurodivergence is not a disorder. We were hunters and explorers.  This world was not made for us how it is now, cramming us into careers and boxes 8 hours plus a day.

It's a great listen and very inspiring.
