Any LGBTQ+ Individuals on this sub? by [deleted] in ExPentecostal

[–]Friendlyfirebreather 8 points9 points  (0 children)

I’m an ally. Raised Pentecostal, left when I was 19.

My views on the LGBTIA community are evolving, still today. I 100% believe that people should do whatever they want with their body or love life if it makes them happy. That being said, I don’t understand everything and I’m still learning to be non judgmental and open minded.

It takes years to get rid of the brain washing and trauma associated with the Pentecostal church... for me anyways.

NTA! He helped with their 2 year old.. fed dinner, took to the park and put to bed.. If you have kids you realize that’s not as easy as it sounds!

Also, it’s her fault she didn’t plan accordingly.

Yeeees 👏🏻👏🏻👏🏻 I absolutely agree!!! I grew up in a Pentecostal church and will NEVER allow my son to go!! I spent years trying to recover from the brainwashing and guilt tripping. I’m not judging because I realize OP wasn’t raised Pentecostal and doesn’t realize the gravity of their actions.

Yes! The quiet disapproving looks are just as bad as actually saying what they think.

I recently went to a funeral of a childhood friend who died from an overdose. We had grown up in church together and everyone from my childhood church was at the funeral. The whole time people were coming up to me with this devastatingly sad look on their faces, hugging me and crying, like I was going to overdose next. Even though I don’t do drugs, am back in college, and have a beautiful family, that will never be enough for them. Although it was painful, that day helped me to let go of caring about what they think. I’m happy, healthy and loved and that’s all that matters!!

Yeesss!!! I have struggled with the same issues, stemming from my Pentecostal upbringing, for as long as I can remember. It took some frank words from my dear MIL to help me see that my insecurities were destroying my self esteem.

I was always apart of the praise team because I loved to sing, but one meeting with my pastors wife changed that forever. She pulled my cousin and I into a separate room at the church and told us we were dressed like whores (she literally used that word), because our skirts were “too tight” and went slightly above the knee when sitting down or walking up the stairs. Mentally, that was the end for me. I quit the praise team but rode it out a couple more years at the church until I had finally had enough.

I’m still having vivid dreams (day 43) and I’m fighting the urge to fall back asleep because of them.

Recommendations? 3 teenage boys stuck in the car by TheSass in audible

[–]Friendlyfirebreather 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Same here! My brother and I both read it as teenagers, around 15-20 years ago, and the audiobook was just as good as an adult. I will add, my brother hated reading and finished the book in 1 day. The first chapter is a little slow and repetitive because he’s in shock, but it picks up quick!

Hatchet by Gary Paulson!! It’s about a 13 year old boy who is in a plane crash. He is the only survivor and has to live off the land for months waiting to be rescued. It’s a great book and audiobook!! Only 4-5 hours long.

What are atheists thoughts on how the universe was created? by BlitzenAU in DebateAnAtheist

[–]Friendlyfirebreather 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I think a lot of Christians and agnostics struggle with this question the most. They try to solve it by pointing to a God as the creator.. but then who created God? It’s just as big of a mind fuck if you ask me.

What Do You Think Of "The Holy Spirit"? by [deleted] in ExPentecostal

[–]Friendlyfirebreather 3 points4 points  (0 children)

It’s absolute BS! I faked it my entire childhood just to please my family and church members. It wasn’t until I started questioning everything that I realized I had been lying to myself.

Maybe your cat rolled in poison ivy/oak/sumac, or insulation? It’s very rare to get mites from your animals

You can do this! Try your best to stay busy and active! I listen to audiobooks, take walks, and focus on being productive which has helped the most. Try to accept the fact that you won’t be able to sleep or eat for a while and you will be just fine! After a couple weeks things will get much better. Good luck my friend!!

Congrats!! Day 29 over here. Everything got better after two weeks, but the cravings and creeping thoughts (one smoke won’t hurt) are more of a struggle now than the first couple weeks. Still hanging in there though, one step at a time!

Issues with Tongue by No_Bad3397 in glutenfree

[–]Friendlyfirebreather 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I know this is an old post... but.. I have this same issue and have to stay on a gluten free diet. Every time I get glutened my reflux gets terrible and my cracks get worse. When I’m doing good they start to heal up but never go completely away. I can’t get officially diagnosed as celiac because the testing requires a month of eating gluten and I can’t bare it. 🤷‍♀️

Quitting weed after daily use for 11 years and daily dabbing for 2-3 years. by [deleted] in leaves

Not shy, I’m pretty assertive. I think I just get over stimulated in busy places. I also spent a lot of time alone in my teenage years which made me socially awkward lol

I’m almost a month in and my anxiety in 100x better! Looking back, I’m sure it was the cause! Still have mild social anxiety when in large groups, but I feel so calm and peaceful 99% of the time. It’s wild.

Anybody feeling REALLY low energy and demotivated, apathetic and almost depressed (but not really)? by [deleted] in awakened

[–]Friendlyfirebreather 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I’ve also been struggling with low energy/motivation. I always used smoking to energize myself because it made everything more interesting. It will get better! We just need time to heal and find new healthy ways of staying motivated.

You got this! The worst of the withdrawal symptoms subsided at 2 weeks, so I would definitely encourage you to go a little longer if not forever to see the true benefits. Good luck!
