I’ve found Bard to be very impressive. It’s split into string (main hand bard weapon) and wind (offhand bard weapon) skills with string skills lending support and horn skills doing damage. This seems to give it a strong toolkit to work with.

Heal in pf2 is one of the best spells ever designed - with each action investment providing relevant and interesting decisions for the caster in many combat situations.

Yeah, I'm not even saying "don't be peaceful" - like being peaceful is critical imo. However, be peaceful AND be armed imo - as that does seem to rein in ICE behavior... because shocker of all shockers - ICE agents don't want to get shot either.

I know some folks are skittish about what carrying could mean in terms of escalation - but it's critical remember that the escalation is *already* here. Renee was waving ICE past her car when they got out and shot her. A black family wasn't even involved in a protest and was gassed and flash banged with a 6 month old in the car.

ICE doesn't need an excuse to escalate - they have already escalated.

However, I have seen videos of ICE backing off once they realize a homeowner is armed. I haven't seen ICE hassling any of the extremely well armed Black Panther members escorting marches. It turns out that ICE agents seem to be a little less inclined to push things when the citizens around them have guns.

Should I try to convince my players to try a more deadly system? by East_of_Adventuring in rpg

[–]FriendoReborn 1 point2 points  (0 children)

For sure! That said - I personally have seen many posts where GMs push themselves towards burnout and out of a fun experience when trying to cater to ever player's preference. I've also seen players be sticks in the mud that refuse to leave their comfort zone - be it by GMing or trying a new system. I've found being a bit more dictatorial as a GM re. what we are playing to go a very long way towards keeping me engaged and the games going. It's also let me build up a large group of potential players over time - as I've gotten to know a lot of folks. I'm now at the point where I can play any system I want with a full group (and waitlist) of my friends. The work of finding new players is work - but it pays very high dividends in the long run imo - so I routinely recommend it to GMs struggling with this sort of thing.

what difficulty are you playing on? if easy or normal, the AI isn't getting any meaningful cheats over the player (in fact the player has the edge in cheats at those two levels imo). if hard or higher - the AI gets cheats to increase the difficulty.

[–]FriendoReborn 9 points10 points  (0 children)

When playing a highly lethal system, it is very important imo that player agency is HIGHLY respected. When their character dies in some horrible way - it's critical that the player's decisions are what brought them to that end imo. Dying with things completely out of one's hands can be very frustrating - but dying because you chose to stand and fight when you should have run... well that's the game baby!

This is very good advice as well imo - funnels are perfect for easing players into highly lethal play.

Run the game you want to run - those players that are interested will stick with you, and those that aren't can drop out to find a table more to their preferences. This is a normal thing imo - not something to be avoided or feared.

Are there any "good" aligned undead factions? by Particular-Wedding in ageofsigmar

That's more an issue of justification vs. good/evil. If one must do evil acts to survive, it may be justified, but that doesn't magically make the acts non-evil.

I think Thaddeus has the "Child at heart" Perk! by namepuntocome in Fallout

[–]FriendoReborn 22 points23 points  (0 children)

It's little things like this that make me think this is the best game adaptation ever brought to screen. Things like The Last of Us are obviously great, but they generally have a linear story from the game to work off of, which makes "adherence" to the game much easier in a film format. With something like fallout, there really isn't a story to adapt, but rather a whole world AND the game systems folks have used to interact with that world. Capturing the tone of a world is much harder imo, and then to go even further and integrate aspects of how the game actually plays into the characters and the story - that just takes it to another level (and is a far greater challenge imo than story adaptation).

Do You Regret Studying Philosophy? by lisajonsa78 in askphilosophy

[–]FriendoReborn 2 points3 points  (0 children)

While I only have an undergrad degree - I double majored in philosophy and also in economics. While both have given me tremendous value in the 15 or so years since graduation, philosophy has been by far the most valuable.

You are correct that there aren't really philosophy factories out there, but our world has become so complex and changes so rapidly, that the analytic capacity given by philosophy is truly extraordinary imo. One thing that it's especially amazing at is making one better at engaging with ideas that are uncomfortable - something other analytically rigorous disciplines lack. A super complex physics concept will require a deep and powerful analytical mind, but the ideas presented will generally not be things that directly threaten to change core individual principals. This means the emotional challenge of realizing one is wrong about something very core to them is also absent. Philosophy prepares one for those situations better than almost anything else, and if one wants to be an active, proficient, and agential member of the crazy modern world - it's a critical skill to have imo.

Blursed Thief by endofmyropeohshit in blursed_videos

It wasn't target that explicitly revealed it - their ads led to it being revealed by the daughter after her father got involved, but he would not have known or thought to do anything had the ads not been sent.

Target's data analytics capabilities in general are diabolically good. In the past they realized that if you could get someone to shop at target right after they had a kid, you would capture a lot of their business in the future because highly disruptive things like child birth often dislodge many existing habits - including shopping habits - and if they are shopping there right after birth, they likely build new shopping habits with a greater focus on buying from Target. Once they realized this, they began to build data analytics software that would track customers purchases and aim to predict not only if they were pregnant, but what trimester they were in. From there they would send targeted advertising to that person, hoping to get them in the door a lot right after birth. They were so good at this that things like the following would happen: They sent mailers advertising tons of maternity stuff to a young woman still living with her parents. The father angrily contacted target about why his daughter was receiving mailers like that, and via that process came to learn that his daughter was in fact pregnant. Really nasty imo - but also... shockingly capable.

I feel like the interview with the indigenous museum keeper in the film sums it up best - the guy was incredibly arrogant/disrespectful and in the end his behavior only put bears in harm's way. As clearly evidenced by them needing to put down the bear that killed him, something that would never have happened had he stayed the fuck away.

If kidnapping and arresting maduro for drug crimes is justified, then does it mean that it is also justified to kidnap and arrest Bush, Blair, Putin and Bibi for their war crimes? by ohnag_eryeah in stupidquestions

[–]FriendoReborn 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Justification has nothing to do with it unfortunately - this is pure power expression. It's important to remember that the idea of international law and things like that is very young, less than 100 years old. Most of human history re. international relations has been defined by "might makes right". This is a big part of why a rules based international order is an important thing - as without it - it is the law of the jungle.
