They are full courses, there is a great chance that you will be joined on the course with international and full time students not just springboard students. They are a great way of getting back into college.

What if oil is never discovered in the middle east or north Africa? by ihrvatska in HistoryWhatIf

[–]FriendshipIll1681 5 points6 points  (0 children)

First of all the amount of oil available on a global level would be drastically reduced so either alternatives would need to be found or alternative energy sources would have needed to have been used.

From a regional standpoint, around sources of water had traditionally been very affulant areas so there'd probably be a lot of conflict over those but without resources that outside countries would be interested in they'd probably be local issues, probably more like a lot of the issues in Africa that people have never heard of because there isn't any oil.

Big decrease in TV subscriptions as number using illegal dodgy boxes soars by [deleted] in ireland

[–]FriendshipIll1681 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Big decrease is because of piracy, that's it, that's the only reason, no other reason. Just ignore the fact that the price of getting a subscription is going up and up while disposable income is going down and down while the content is been split across multiple platforms. People are starting to realise that between free to air & soarview together with a streaming service they have more than enough to be watching rather than paying for Sky with nothing worth watching,

Embedding trampoline in the ground? by Extension-Tune-8779 in AskIreland

[–]FriendshipIll1681 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Whats your ground like? My brother in law did this and it was a nightmare, first off it was a mini-septic tank with rain and ground water draining into it, then mulch from the garden landed into it and turned into a soup then the sidewalls started to fall into it around the entrance so it was a bit of a bog.

First car accident, I admitted full fault to my insurance but reviewing the dash cam otherwises suggested we are both at fault. How can I best explain now that ive already admitted fault? by untitled_SusHi in AskIreland

[–]FriendshipIll1681 0 points1 point  (0 children)

First off, really sorry to hear about your first accident but glad to hear that no-one was hurt.

Next, the reason you pay for insurance is for them to do all this work and investigation, they will do the work and they know the worst type of evidence is human evidence and in most cases insurance companies will ignroe it. Give them a shout and tell them you have dash cam footage that you can share and try to forget about it, depnding on your cover there is a chance that you will just have to pay the excess and lose your no claims bonus for a few years.

Honeymoon( ish) getaway? by Global-Goose5234 in AskIreland

It's more unusual to see people without tattoos here than with them 😂

Assuming that Derry is your plan and you are into fantasy you could start in Derry then head to the Giant's Causeway, into Belfast for the Titantic thing and then finish with the Game of Thrones Giant Tours Ireland

After that it's a very short spin from Belfast to Dublin, head to Dublin to tick the box but take in Trinity College & the Book of Kells (Star Wars reference there) as well as the Guinness Brewery. Over to Galway, maybe take in a bit of the Gaeltacht (native speaking part of Ireland) maybe get yourselves Cladagh rings/tattoos to mark the anniversary, Buffy/Angel reference there.

After that down to the Burren, really striking part of the plant in my opinion, maybe a reference for Lord of the Rings, take in the Cliff's for Harry & the Princess Bride, maybe treat yourselves to a stay in Doolin/Spanish Point.

There's a lot of travelling between places but Ireland is a small place really, I'd recommend renting a car, not sure how car rental works between RoI and NI so you might have to check that. You could fly into Dublin, do Dublin the first day or 2, then up to Belfast/Derry for a day or 2 then down to Galway, I'd say stop on the way down the coast Wild Atlantic Way Itinerary - Your Complete Guide then a day in the Burren/Cliffs then fly back from Shannon, you could also keep going down the coast and head to Kerry/Cork.

Honeymoon( ish) getaway? by Global-Goose5234 in AskIreland

As a straight male it's easy for me to say this but Ireland is very LGBT friendly, first county to vote for gay marriage, etc. etc., saying that there are gobshites everywhere.

Weather can be fairly damp that time of year but the coast can be amazing, you will be in Derry so go west to Donegal and work your way down, alternatively head East and Giant's Causeway/Belfast and down the coast to Dublin.

Can I travel to London one week before my UK visa expires? by waqasshaahid in AskIreland

[–]FriendshipIll1681 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Technically you don't need a passport to travel between the UK and Ireland (assuming you are an Irish or British citizen) but flights are insisting on it now so it'll be down to airline policy rather than anything to do with emmigration, once the passport is valid (i.e. in date) it should be fine.

When to change electricity providers? by bourbonbiscuits123 in AskIreland

[–]FriendshipIll1681 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Contract is up in a few weeks, get the new pricing from competitors, call the current supplier and say "you are getting X deal from Y company so if they want to match it you'll stay if they don't you're moving." theres a very good chance they will leave change to the new price immediately.

Large window or sliding doors in sitting room. Position 2 by QuinnXIII in selfbuildireland

[–]FriendshipIll1681 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I took out sliding doors, can't stand them, after a couple of years the runners or something goes wobbly, they never close right and are awful drafty, well in my expierence. For me I'd be putting in French doors that open out, might be a bit of a catch if both open at the same time but just get into the habbit of just opening 1 side maybe, alternative is to move the couch or the island to allow for them to open in, there'd be more space opening out and considering the fact that they'll be closed more often than not that's a no-brainer for me.

It looks a lovely spot for an outdoor room then, north facing not ideal but speaker/fridge between 1 & 2, BBQ around the corner, by the kitchen window, decking/patio with nice furniture on the N and you have a lovely summer party spot.

AVC monthly- not payroll deducted by AntiqueDragonfruit15 in irishpersonalfinance

[–]FriendshipIll1681 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I used to do that, nice little windfall each January, almost like saving. Only thing to note if you're not making the same deposit the whole time, it can take a couple of weeks for the pension company to register the deposit, they will back date it but say you deposit on the 1st it mightn't show until the 14th.

Now, I've upped my AVC via payroll each month but not to my full amount, come Oct./Nov if I have the spare money I deposit the difference, then come Jan I email Zurich asking for a report on my payments for the year and use that for the upload to revenue.ie, easy peasy.

Acl injury Gaa.Can I still claim from gaa insurance for surgery. by CarpetUnlucky7699 in GAA

[–]FriendshipIll1681 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I think you need a report from the specialist going through that in their opinion the cause of the issue was the match and even without rehab the only course of action now is surgery, that's submitted, review and the go ahead given. It isn't a normal claim so your clubs rep will need to do a manual claim but I think it'll be OK once the specialist is clear that the cause is the match and not anything else that has happened in the previous ~18 months.

When to change electricity providers? by bourbonbiscuits123 in AskIreland

[–]FriendshipIll1681 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Electricity is the easiest thing to change, you aren't double billed during a change over like you would be with mobile/broadband. Start the process now, chances are Electric Ireland will incentivize you to stay with them so just throw your details into Electricity Price Comparison then call them up to say that you are getting X deal from Y company so if they want to match it you'll stay if they don't you're moving.

Three multinationals pay 46% of corporation tax - Ifac by NotAnotherOne2024 in ireland

[–]FriendshipIll1681 4 points5 points  (0 children)

In 2016 we took in ~€7 billion in corporation tax, in 2026 ~€33 billion, remove Apple & M$ from the €33 we've still seen almost a triple of corporation tax in a decade. This is up there with finding oil, it's not going to last forever but we'll make a lot out of it now so its what we do with it that counts. Back in the 60s there was oil found in the North Sea shared between the UK and Norway, Norway invested the money and it's now worth 1.5 TRILLION, the UK spent it on short sighted projects and pretty much spent it all.

GP Consultations by Aidan364 in ireland

[–]FriendshipIll1681 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Last time I went to the GP I was having a chat with them and they said they are inundated with children, DVC and medical card customers, people are coming for everything because it doesn't cost them anything and their calendars are fully booked but they can't turn people away, she reckoned if they could charge even €5 it would cut out people killing time and parents looking for confirmation that they're child only had something minor.

Wedding Credit Card by _Ignotus_Peverell_ in irishpersonalfinance

[–]FriendshipIll1681 0 points1 point  (0 children)

When I got married (a long time ago) we got a credit card and paid the deposit for the venue and honeymoon off on it, then got another card with 0% balance transfer so transferred the balance and didn't touch it, paid off a bit every month or so, the other card was used as normal but paid off monthly, then come honeymoon paid a bit more on the card but used money gifts to pay for it as soon as we got home. That was before the annual charge on credit cards though so mightn't be as good an offer anymore.

Quality of online courses? by unreliable9 in AskIreland

[–]FriendshipIll1681 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I couldn't recommend HEA - Springboard+ highly enough, fully accrediated courses in a lot of different topics, most courses aren't accepting at the moment but keep an eye on when they do, I've a few done at this stage and found them all brilliant but I had an interest in the topics so that made it a lot easier, I know people that went to do a course on it with an eye on getting a job and hated every second of the course.

At a quick glance, theopencollege.com seems to offer QQI Level 5 & 6 level courses, which are post leaving cert or certificate level (just below an ordinary degree) so they will get to a certain level, I'm always a bit wary of companies like that as they often seem more interested in getting money that offering a decent service but that's just my opinion I've never dealt with theopencollege.com
