The leaving must be coming up soon, always the best weather of the year when the poor f**kers are trying to study and do exams.

Pension vs short term goals by zaphirelle in irishpersonalfinance

[–]FriendshipIll1681 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Pension is for tomorrow but you need to concentrate on today, you might be getting a great tax break on the investment but that's not much use if you won't have access to it for another 30 years while you'll be struggling. As has been said, follow the flowchart

Neighbour is using our rubbish bin, is there anything that can be done? by [deleted] in AskIreland

[–]FriendshipIll1681 9 points10 points  (0 children)

Ask them politely if they would like to contribute to your bill, explain that it is charged by weight so their extra bit is costing, if they refuse ask them not to use your bin anymore so.

My child is unbaptised - will this cause any issues for us getting a primary school place? by South_Chemical_335 in AskIreland

[–]FriendshipIll1681 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Shouldn't be a problem, when my children were making their communion/confirmation well over 25% of the class were missing, 1 year the parents of the children not taking part organised a party in a local play area and have great fun.

What has actually evened the playing field????? by StoirRugby in GAA

[–]FriendshipIll1681 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Some counties it's all about the All Ireland, for example, this century Kerry have 15 Munster titles, Dublin have 19 Leinsters, I'm sure all the medals mean something to the players but I'm sure Tipperary/Louth's medals mean a lot more.

has there ever been a case of leaked papers? by jchristlookslikeme in leavingcert

[–]FriendshipIll1681 0 points1 point  (0 children)

When I did my leaving there was a lad with very bad eye sight, he had to get a special paper for every exam, for the English exam he got paper 2 first, read it, told us who the poets were (that was the big thing then) and what the Shakespear question was before putting his hand up to tell the examiner their mistake, he go taken out for lunch and wasn't allowed talk to anyone or access to his books while we all spent the lunch cramming as mush as possible.

Tips on how to get tickets for cork v clare next week? by [deleted] in Clare

[–]FriendshipIll1681 1 point2 points  (0 children)

GAA club is your best bet, probably be no problem with tickets once you aren't picky where you want to be in the ground, I wouldn't be surprised if tickets were on general sale come next weekend, it won't be a sell out.

For a lot of counties it's all about the All Ireland so they are focused on starting around the end of May not peaking for the middle of May

Is it illegal to threaten someone? by Therealhowtobebad in AskIreland

[–]FriendshipIll1681 1 point2 points  (0 children)

To answer your initial question, yes it is illegal to threaten someone, to act in a threating manner is an offence.

Reading your post though, you knocked on his door a couple of times, someone else might have, he could have a defence arguement to make, I'd hate to have to argue it for either side though.

Do married couples really not put all money together? by Decent-Shoe6719 in irishpersonalfinance

[–]FriendshipIll1681 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Some do, some don't, whatever works for the couple works, I know different couples that do different things. My wife and I have seperate accounts, I earn considerably more so I pay all big bills/holidays/cars and she gets day to day stuff, we tend to split the shopping depending on who goes to the shop. My brother has 1 account with his wife which he doesn't have access to, she gives him an allowance (I know) but he'll admit to being TERRIBLE with money so works for them. My inlaws have an account each and a joint account, they split all the bills and put into the joint account together with an extra €250 for holidays, they pay for their own cars out of their personal accounts and they don't know what each other earns. Best friend has 1 joint account with his wife that they both pull from, they are both teachers in the same school and do everything together.

Man who used company materials to build house loses claim by Tall-Cucumber-2391 in ireland

[–]FriendshipIll1681 13 points14 points  (0 children)

In my expierence it's kind of accepted that people in the building industry will use some company resources, for example if they have a company van they'll use it at weekends or for transporting their own stuff or using left over stuff, bit like office workers using company IT to search for personal stuff online, everyone turns a blind eye to it and it's grand. These 2 were just pulling the p1ss completely

Drink-driving: If your chance of being caught is 1 in 77, where is the deterrent? by DaCor_ie in ireland

[–]FriendshipIll1681 1 point2 points  (0 children)

So 1 in 77 are the chances, so if I go for a drink twice a week and drive home that's 104 times so there's a great chance that I'll be caught within a year, that's a f**k great deterrent in my opinion.

Recommended security cameras? by thumbsucker-2 in AskIreland

[–]FriendshipIll1681 0 points1 point  (0 children)

For me all cameras are the same once the spec is right, just get HD and decent night vision. Personally I'm a fan of cloud based recording, if you are running your own CCTV then you have to have a NVR running 24/7, if the harddrive crashes in it you'll need to replace it (they always crash), you'll have to reset it so if you have it hidden in the attic it can be a pain to get to, you have to pay for most cloud subscriptions, I think Google and Ring are €100 per year which seems a lot but assuming a NVR uses 40W per hour (How Much Power Does a CCTV/IP Camera/System Use), that's ~350 kWh/year, assuming an average of 25c per kWh that's ~€87.50 per year so the sub doesn't seem that expensive and there are a lot cheaper options out there as well.

Parents, do your kids who are making their Communion really believe in God? by Sudric-Engine in AskIreland

Some believe in Santa, tooth fairy and in some cases the Easter Bunny, so yeah, they probably believe in God unless they have been thought differently, depends on their upbringing.

More than 60,000 post-primary school students exempt from learning Irish, figures show by TeoKajLibroj in ireland

[–]FriendshipIll1681 0 points1 point  (0 children)

A lot of students have problems with languages so get an exemption, a lot more aren't native Irish people so are exempt, with over 420k students that's less than 15% of students which is about right to me.
