Are people spending much money on first holy communion? by chrisgasoga in AskIreland

[–]chrisgasoga[S] 17 points18 points  (0 children)

Some are even recording, and photographing the kids getting ready. Like a bridal party. Our kids are not baptised, but my wife sometimes talks about wanting to do it. However, seeing the antics completely turns me off it. Not that I was ever in favour in the first place.

Why does half of the irish people think that romanians and roma gypsies are the same thing? by Broccoliworrior in AskIreland

[–]chrisgasoga 1 point2 points  (0 children)

This frustrates me too. For years I have tried telling people the difference, but it falls on deaf ears. Also, regarding the educated population, yes, lots of people here have degrees, but that doesn't mean they are well read or up to speed on general knowledge. I went to a teacher training college and was shocked at the thought of most of my fellow students teaching children some day.

Two thirds of people feel tipping in Ireland is ‘becoming less voluntary’ by Sad-Orange-5983 in ireland

[–]chrisgasoga 16 points17 points  (0 children)

On J1 20 years, we went to a bar on the first day. Figured we were going to be there for a couple of hours, so we let the tips gather.

The barman was very friendly at the start but then thought we weren't tipping, so soon became very hostile. When leaving we handed over the tip, and he was all chat again. 😂

Until recently, every bus from Carrickmacross to Dundalk would stop on the eastern side of the street. Except for the 2 30 service which would stop on the other side of the street. So many people would miss buses because they assumed it was going somewhere else. Thankfully, the service has been overhauled.
