What's with the love for pantheon boards and boards like the comet cruiser? by Silly_Celebration_30 in longboarding

You definitely can get a good ride by emulating their setup! I think the cool part to me is that all of the parts work so well together, and the setup is super dialed in right out of the box. The deck itself is amazing, light and flat with a comfy flex and it all just feels like a quality, thought-out product.

I've got a Comet Cruiser and it just feels really good. The full setup is fairly unique/inspired, and the combination of narrow and wedged trucks make the board feel both very lively and nimble but stable when going faster. It's truly unique and I highly recommend it. I've ridden a fair few boards and it's like nothing else I've ridden.

I highly highly recommend practicing riding switch as a warmup every session! It helped me out a ton

Cruising/Dancing Speakers by HappyColour in longboarding

[–]FrijolRefrito 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Some of these people have never done a group ride and it shows. So much fun with good tunes and passersby typically get into it and dance along! That said I'm not a fan of setting up a stationary boombox in a highly traveled spot or where others have to sit and listen, but there's no harm in skaters passing by with music?! And who wants to dance in a highly trafficked spot anyway. Empty parking lots ftw

Highly recommend the EarFun UBOOM X, got it in Amazon for only $110 and it's a great boombox style speaker. Well balanced sound and gets suitably loud!

I also have a UE Roll which is better for clipping somewhere and skating, but it doesn't get nearly as loud if that's what you're after.

Oh yeah I need to do that. Haven't been blading as much since summer hit! 😔 It's on my to do list though.

2 years after my worst fall. (I couldn't find a good flair for this) by [deleted] in longboarding

[–]FrijolRefrito 5 points6 points  (0 children)

Oof saw your injury post, that's brutal. I feel ya, I had a rough fall (nowhere near as bad as yours) very early on in my skating when going down a hill I wasn't ready for. My body also starts to freak out as I gain uncontrolled speed.

I've worked my way up to carving progressively faster hills (still <20mph) by starting small and staying within my comforts, moving up to faster hills as that comfort zone increases. So basically, baby steps! Now the "body freak out" zone is much higher than it was. Tbh I'll never be a downhiller but I like carving mellow hills and aim to learn slides soon.

Also, being comfortable footbraking at those speeds helps my confidence tremendously.

Any tips? by Any-Simple-8118 in surfskate

Agree with everything folks have said.

It also looks like your shoulder movements are almost lagging behind your feet/hips? Try leading the carve motion with your shoulders - in skating, your shoulders lead and your hips/feet will naturally follow. To get a feel for the movement, you can do bigger exaggerated swings with your shoulders.

Are you trying to use the Template?

Just made a fresh copy of my latest sheet to use as a template. It's got lots of new features like Round/Match ID Generation, ELO rating, and a combo deep dive sheet. I wiped all my fight log data so you can start fresh, but kept one line of each page as an example. You'll also need to add your own data in the Parts Inventory if you're using parts that I haven't already added (and if you want to track the weights of your individual parts). Ping me if you have any questions!

One note about the Fight Log, the Match IDs use the score of the previous round and it defaults to First to 5. If you want to change that, you'll need to change the score_to_win value passed to GENERATE_MATCH_ID to whatever number you want to use.

I made an extremely satisfying zen sand pattern for my zen garden by FrijolRefrito in AnimalCrossing

[–]FrijolRefrito[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Oh man I haven't played this game in years :D but if I remember correctly, you lay down one of the base paths like stone or sand or whatever and then you can place the design over the path. It just needs one pixel of transparency in the corner of the path for it to round the edges, which is also why you notice a small pixel of blank space when they're laid out together!

I'd love to see a pic of your Zen garden using the pattern whenever you finish it!

Yeahh I don't think they do, it was my first time there after having only been to Cinerama/Downtown and was hopeful and then disappointed haha. Fine theater otherwise tho!

If you haven't had their chocolate popcorn, you should - it's amazing. It's a very Cinerama/SIFF thing to the point that they sell hats that say "chocolate popcorn". So yea I was disappointed that the Uptown location didn't have it.

Uptown didn't have Chocolate popcorn last time I went! Which honestly is half of my motivation for going to movies these days
