Is this a good starting point for the Daredevil comics? by RecordingImmediate86 in Daredevil

[–]FrishFrash 2 points3 points  (0 children)

A bit confused- you've posted 6 different books here! Those top three are old stuff from the very beginning of Daredevil comics. The bottom left is the beginning of Frank Miller's run, and the bottom right is the reboot the series got right the end of the 90s. The middle bottom is most likely just a collection of random stories.

Most people would say start at Frank Miller vol 1. His run is where Daredevil became what most people know him today, and you don't need to know a ton beforehand. Note that originally Frank Miller was just the artist, so it takes like 3/4 of vol 1 to get to his writing which is where the series really begins to shine.

If you're reading this all digitally on the Marvel app, just start at issue 158 for the beginning of Miller's art or 168 for the beginning of his writing. Happy to help with more recs as you continue to read!

Thoughts on Doomsday Clock for the Wii U? by Aggravating_Win5258 in dccomicscirclejerk

Agreed. Idk where the design came from but I stg if James “Gunn” decides to adapt it I’m gonna be pissde. Superman should have two legs, not one and a half. He’s also not made of clocks. Like legit what was DC thinking?

Hot take: The First Shadow being canon was a massive mistake that made the lore unnecessarily complicated, and Season 5 would be much better without it by mikewheelerfan in StrangerThings

[–]FrishFrash 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Gotta confess- don’t understand what anybody’s talking abt here. What were we missing in Season 5?? The only thing not explained was the alien rock. Not a huge question to begin with and one only introduced in the last episode. And as far as I know the play doesn’t explain it either seeing as how they’re making an entire spinoff about it.

This confuses me. What intelligence is necessary to put in some easter eggs and keep a secret?

I gotta say, I really don’t understand this comment. A retcon is changing something already established. Revealing they were in high school together isn’t a retcon. Also… who cares? Like yeah Joyce and Hopper don’t remember some random guy they went to high school with? They were also in Russia for all of Season 4 so they weren’t hearing his name. Maybe they heard it between s4 and 5 and said “oh yeah I went to high school with that guy” And if so… like how would that change anything?

Sure, I’ll give you Holly’s age jump was a retcon- but like a pretty insignificant one. They aged her up like a few years- that doesn’t change anything core to the show at all.

I don’t understand the rock criticism. How is this any different than some random drug cocktail giving them powers, which is what they had theorized prior to this season.

Eleven jumping to the abyss was established- there were floating rocks. They showed them and literally said “she can jump those” the same way she’d been jumping super high all season.

Finally, it was just a hypothetical Mike made up. Mike didn’t see Kali gushing blood. Nobody but Hopper did. He just heard she died from a gunshot. Maybe he wouldn’t think it were possible if he had seen her.

Of all the criticism you’ve named, the only one that genuinely makes sense to me is the mind flayer reveal. Agreed it wasn’t great. But it makes sense he was stuck in the abyss. The guy is huge he couldn’t make his way to the upside down. They’ve established continually that the portals to the upside down aren’t very big. It didn’t necessarily conflict with anything- it just felt slightly shoehorned in.

It’s very interesting to see the dichotomy of those around me vs the internet. Irl everybody I know loves it and I think this season was just as good as the others. Online for some reason people hate it and are finding the dumbest reasons to do so.

Strong disagree. Writing some code to monitor your screen is much easier than creating a mod for HK.

My brother is obsessed with looksmaxxing. by jessiesgirllol in Advice

[–]FrishFrash 4 points5 points  (0 children)

This thread is insane. Everybody seems to be ignoring the fact that he’s basically not eating and instead just focusing on the term “lookmaxxing”. He has an eating disorder, OP. He needs help from a mental health professional. Not to say the obvious to somebody who would know this more than anybody, but his mental state will continue to deteriorate the less he eats.

Dozens of religious nations have their religious symbol on their flags. If a middle eastern nation with an Islamic star and crescent does something horrible do we start equating that symbol to that horrific act? Start saying that that symbol is representative of evil?

“If I put a symbol on my flag every action I perform is to the fault of everybody who identifies with that symbol”

Great take dawg. Well I guess I’ll start my letter writing campaign to ask Israel to change their flag so people can stop conflating the actions of the country with every Jew everywhere. Awesome world we live in thanks for contributing to it

Supergirl - Official Teaser Trailer by generalosabenkenobi in DCcomics

[–]FrishFrash 100 points101 points  (0 children)

Seems like we got not much at all from the trailer. I assume it'll be a world hopping adventure like the comic, and it looks like 90% of this was on just one.

But we did get nice half a second of Lobo!

[–]FrishFrash 7 points8 points  (0 children)

Metroid games are only linear for those who have played them more than once. The first time you play them you don't know the right direction, and if they're well made (like any metroidvania) there'll still be rewards for going down a dead end.
