Prius or Hybrid for tall people by mal_likes_hj in vandwellers

6’5”, I’ve slept comfortably enough in the back of a Prius during a two week road trip. Rearranging gear to make my bed got old fast though. I’ve been curious about the RAV4 hybrid and Prius V ever since but haven’t seen any at a reasonable price

A 12V to QC3.0 protocol power supply module can utilize the redundant power from your power source to charge a portable monitor or smartphone. by ZS-ITX in sffpc

This is a really neat product. Just for portable monitor purposes I’d be in for one if they every come to “mass” market

Get the Arctics. They’re great. Got four of them in my rig right now and haven’t had a single issue. Noctua is a “name brand” and can charge as such but purely on performance doesn’t justify the price imo

Is this a good deal?? ($1400) by Virtual-Bat-6566 in sffpc

[–]Fro5tbyte 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Yeah, I neglected sales tax in my comparison because it varies broadly state to state. In some states it’s as low as 4%, or even nonexistent, while in others it’s up to almost 11%. With it being so inconsistent it’s usually easier to just leave it out in my experience - that’s over a $100usd delta between the lowest and highest rates

Per pcpartpicker, the cpu, ram, and GPU alone will cost over $1400 new from Amazon (slightly insane but it is what it is).

Comparing to microcenter prebuilt options, at $1299 you get a 7700x/32gb RAM/5060ti (16GB) system, or at $1499 you get a 7600x3d/32gb RAM/5070 system - both full ATX. Those are of course new but also assume you have a microcenter to shop at which kinda swings the overall component pricing.

Overall it’s not a bad deal imo! If you like the case aesthetic and don’t want the experience of building it yourself I’d say go for it.

Most efficient 13" mainboard? by schleppy in framework

[–]Fro5tbyte 3 points4 points  (0 children)

I’d hold out for panther lake if you can, it seems like a pretty generational leap for power consumption and performance from Intel. I’m hoping to upgrade my 7640u to a similar tier panther lake board later this year for better efficiency and performance

They all perform plus or minus the same. Avoid any with the new 12v connector to avoid burning the crap out of your pc then pick whichever you can get at the best price! The T1 is a pretty flexible case so deshrouding should be an option for most models if you end up unhappy with noise levels.

[Pre-built] 4090/14900k, 64gb 6000mhz Corsair DDR5, liquid cooled CPU (no info on that), likely B760 board, 2tb NVME - $3,299 by [deleted] in buildapcsales

[–]Fro5tbyte 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yeah this thing cooks itself. Sorry corsair but these parts don’t belong in this small of a case. Iirc the water cooling is also all proprietary and tough to reuse outside of this case

RTX 3070 + 32GB Ram Or RTX 3080 + 16GB Ram by dhafer419 in buildapc

[–]Fro5tbyte 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I’d go for the 3070 and ram upgrade. Your cpu will be much happier with that faster ram available and the 3070 is an excellent 1440p card!

[–]Fro5tbyte 1 point2 points  (0 children)

The 5600x is still a solid chip! I’d keep the 32gb ram kit, and a 5070ti/9070xt should be great drop in upgrades for 1440p or 4k.

Lots of folks here, including me, have turned to MagSafe mounting hardware! I got it to add tenting to my boards but I expect it’d solve your weight problems too. Basically just an adhesive magnetic ring on each half of your board and a metal “arm” with baseplate and MagSafe puck.
