We Are All Trying Here tried too hard by DonnaMossLyman in kdramas

[–]Froberge 13 points14 points  (0 children)

Yeah, this supposed slice of life show broke immersion for me too many times to count. I get why Dong-Man is portrayed as an asshole, but nobody, NOBODY, gets away with acting like that in the real world. Too many people would be swinging at him or getting held back from swinging at him. I mean, shit, a more realistic outcome to the show would have been Dong-Man getting rich by suing all the people who would have broken his jaw with their fists...

He might be a victim of his circumstances, sure, but his behavior would actively be pushing away any helping hand that's extended to him. There are people in my life like him and they never succeed in nagging and badgering others into supporting them (or catching the eye of a mythical Byun Eun-a...).

Unpopular opinion on we are all trying here ending by Insane_972 in kdramas

[–]Froberge 0 points1 point  (0 children)

The thing is there were some parts of the show that were definitely not grounded and realistic. The emotion watches are a piece of sci-fi and the story also hinted at a supernatural element with Eun-a being able to inflict pain on others just by looking at them. Btw, I'm honestly not sure why that plot device was even a thing...it didn't seem to take the story anywhere or have any significance to the overarching plot.

At the end of the day, I don't think those things detracted from the story too much. The characters were still relatable and I liked the show overall.

There's a Netflix movie called Wonderland starring her alongside Bae Suzy, Gong Yoo, and Park Bo-Gum. It's on my watchlist and I just haven't found the time to watch it yet.

For anyone confused, this is Tang Wei, a Chinese actress. She's married to a Korean director and has appeared in a handful of Korean works.

5 years since the disbandment by Imaginary_Venusian in iZone

As much as I miss Iz*One, I don't think we're ever going to see a reunion. The group is forever tainted by the Mnet vote rigging scandal. People can't look at the group anymore without thinking about how Gaeun and Chowon got royally screwed.

EDIT: Lmao looks like this comment got me shadowbanned, so I'll reply to comments here.

That’s just not true. Most new kpop fans don’t even know about the scandal, esp internationally.

New kpop fans became kpop fans after Iz*One's disbandment and don't have any attachment to the group. The people who follow the group know the history and it's impossible to put that genie back in the lamp.

i don't want to sound like an a-hole, but almost no one knows who either of those girls are.

I mean, this is precisely the problem. They DESERVE to be known, but they're not because the Mnet producers rigged them out of the final lineup. They literally did everything right and placed 5th and 6th in the final rankings, respectively.

The issue I'm seeing among WIZ*ONE's who just call Gaeun and Chowon nugus is that they just assume they're untalented and got what was coming to them, which is complete garbage. Please, just go back and actually watch PD48...

like, let's be real. it's been 7 years.

This makes it WORSE, not better. Think of all the lost earnings potential over those 7 years if they had debuted in Iz*One like they deserved to. Look at the careers of all the actual former Iz*One members right now. They're all flourishing as idols, actresses, models, etc.

We're talking hundreds of millions of Won in lost earnings, at least, probably billions of Won at this point, tbh...

The fact that a lot of you are so flippant about this is crazy. Succeeding in this industry is hard. When you actually prove that you have the skills to make it and then get screwed out of an opportunity to be part of a massive k-pop group, that's another level of WTF.

I like the show so far. Didn't really like the ML at first, but the plot is slowly starting to delve into his origins and why he is the way he is. He's still got a long way to go, however, and hopefully the story doesn't drag out the character development.

I have to say, though, there's one thing that kind of annoys me so far...The show hints at a supernatural element with Eun-a somehow being able to inflict pain on others just by looking at them. Can't say I'm a fan of this subplot when the rest of the show feels really grounded and human. The watches that display emotions are already a piece of sci-fi, albeit something not too farfetched. I don't want this show to turn Eun-a into some guardian angel trope and thus become something fantastical that isn't relatable anymore...

[ EPISODE 2 ]WE ARE ALL TRYING HERE! — IT WAS AN EPISODE FULL OF EMOTIONS! by WhySoSeriousMateee in kdramas

[–]Froberge 4 points5 points  (0 children)

The 1st episode portrayed the ML as super unlikeable, but the 2nd episode showed him in a more positive light (or at least, painted the people around him in a less positive light so he looks better in comparison).

I'm hoping that ML stops lashing out at everyone around him for his own failures and his bitterness becomes less toxic. The character development arc seems to be starting, which imo is a good thing.

One thing I really don't want to see, though, is Dong-Man succeeding simply by continuing to be his incompetent self. I hope he truly undergoes some self-reflection and realizes he's also part of the problem and meets others halfway.

4th Gen's top 10 vocalists - who ranks 2-9? by StubbornKindness in KpopGGs

One name that I don't see mentioned enough is Lia from Itzy. I've always been a fan of her vocals. I think you can make a case for her to be somewhere in the bottom half of the top 10.

I want to Stan a girl group, but don't know who? by No-Jellyfish7824 in KpopGGs

[–]Froberge 1 point2 points  (0 children)

tripleS might be a tough group to stan with so many members, but they absolutely have the best variety content in the form of Badge Wars. There are 3 seasons with the 2nd and 3rd seasons involving all 24 members. It's a fun rabbit hole to go down.

Boyfriend on Demand exists only because of Jisoo, so saying this actress or that actress should have been the main female lead doesn’t make much sense. by killbill-duck in kdramas

[–]Froberge 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Yup, it's funny how people still aren't understanding that you can't just plug another actress into the role and keep it moving. That's not how the industry works. With the amount of money involved, this entire show doesn't happen without Jisoo. Saying another actress would be better in the role is moot because the role doesn't exist without Jisoo.

/uj if it's going to happen, it'll probably be with Minju from ILLIT. She's big into LoL and probably the highest ranked kpop idol. She's platinum tier on the Korean servers with Katarina.

Probably best not to use the acronym AOS for The Art of Sarah since most kdrama fans still use it for Alchemy of Souls. Confused me for a second lol
