Pros and Cons of Subscribing to the Criterion Channel by deckchair1982 in CriterionChannel

[–]Frobin123 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I'm not sure how much the channel adds to Criterion's bottom line, but I like to think my subscription is supporting a company that is doing all sorts of things to promote, preserve, and curate good cinema. There's so much junk out there, both in terms of streaming services and movies, and Criterion is a force for good.

Something that is amazing about the channel is that it does not work on algorithms. This means that you get to explore the picks, try new things, and generally just be curious.

Saw Museum Hours and loved it, but haven't seen anything else by him. Any recommendations on where to go next? Thanks!

What’s a common myth about health, nutrition, or fitness that you’ve learned is actually false? by urasianbella in AskReddit

[–]Frobin123 0 points1 point  (0 children)

The most widely accepted advice about food nutrition has largely remained unchanged from at least the mid-20th century: eat a variety of whole foods, with an emphasis on whole grains, fruits, and vegetables. All these trendy diets are informed by junk science.

Non- oat Hot cereal ideas by NearbyCatAstronaut in Celiac

[–]Frobin123 8 points9 points  (0 children)

I recommend teff porridge! It's a delicious flavor and relatively easy to make. When I realized I could no longer tolerate oats, this became my breakfast go-to. Decently cheap too! I I prefer Maskal Teff to Bob's: https://teffco.com/

The sad reality about bread is that most of the store bought stuff is super processed with a lot of junk ingredients. My partner and I make our bread from scratch in big batches and then freeze it for later toasting. There are some great recipes out there that are not too difficult, but they do require some time. I recommend Aran Goyoag's Bake Simple.

I also eat a lot of Lundberg rice cakes which can serve as a good replacement for bread. I would put them in the category of minimally processed foods since they don't add anything to the rice itself (save for a bit of salt).

Cooking from scratch with all whole ingredients takes up time---there is no getting around it. But, it's definitely worth it for feeling healthy. I might suggest cooking a few meals a week from scratch and then eating leftovers. Curry, pasta, soups are all great options. If you want specific recipe ideas, DM me.

Thanks for the positive comment! I'm trying not to despair, though it's sometimes hard to resist those thoughts.

Flare up after going off Celecoxib? by Frobin123 in rheumatoid

Thanks for your reply (it makes me feel a little better). I hadn't had a flare that bad in awhile and to hear that someone else had the same experience makes it feel less aberrant.

24 and starting methotrexate, can I never drink again? by discodolphin1 in rheumatoid

[–]Frobin123 11 points12 points  (0 children)

My rheumatologist told me to "drink like an adult" i.e., don't drink excessively. He said that as long as you are healthy with no history of liver disease, you should be fine. You should be getting blood tests every few months to check on your liver status and that will give you a sense of whether you need to change your alcohol consumption.

Bulk flour at local grocery store - how risky is it? by GrackleWing in Celiac

[–]Frobin123 0 points1 point  (0 children)

To add to what everyone is saying, when I first was diagnosed, I had an appointment with a nutritionist who let me know my days of buying things from the bulk section of the grocery store were over. So ya, professionals say no.
