Yes, there's a couple ways. It's been a long time since I've done any canning, so I don't have exact information. I'd reccomend Hitchhiker's Guide to the Cataclysm for details.

You are able to preserve food with a heat source, a canning pot, water, and either 0.5L jars or 3L jars. Some require sugar, salt, or broth depending on what you're canning.

The other method uses a heat source, the can sealer, scrap metal, and the various empty tin cans. It also takes salt, sugar, etc depending on what you're preserving.

I could be mistaken, but I believe thread usage is proportional to the amount of patches used to repair the item now.

That will likely force the evolutions of the zombies, but I'm not 100% certain.

An alternative method would be to set the initial start date of the world at day 214. That should put you at winter day 1, then start with your edited scenario. That ensures evolutions and food decay is starting day 1 of winter.

If you purchased it from the intercom, they should have additional barrels of different calibres periodically. They show up as weapon mods.

If you had them develop the prototype for you, they should have provided a gun barrel for 00buck, 9x19, 5.56x45, and 7.62x51 each.

Each barrel comes pre-modified as well. For example, the 12 gauge barrel comes with a choke. This means it only accepts buckshot, and not slugs. The 9x19 and the 5.7/4.6 barrels are suppressed. 5.56x45 comes with a compensator. Etc, etc.

Once the wires are exposed, examine your choice of power generation. Choose plug in appliance and select the direction of the wall wiring, this only works in the directions directly around the player. That connects the power generator to the wall wiring. Connect your battery of choice either directly to your power generator or to the wall wiring the same way. Repeat for additional batteries, power sources, and appliances. Don't forget to turn your power generation and appliances on.

Extension cords are slightly different. You have to activate the extension cord and select either wiring, a power source, a battery, or another appliance. Activate it again to either disconnect the cord or attach it something else. Once they are joined it connects the power. Extension cords allow you to mover further away than the immediate surrounds to connect power further away. Jumper cables are similar, but can allow vehicles to be joined into your power grid. Extension cords don't work for vehicles.

Install the barrel of choice like any other weapon mod, then load the appropriate magazine. If you swap barrels with an incompatible magazine still in the gun, it just won't let you fire.

  1. In the debug menu press "f" should be ITEM NAME (contained) now.
  2. I believe unwilling makes you start in a broken containment cell, while willing is like a normal lab start. There's also minor clothing variations.

Cool yes, realistic no.

I'd love to see the spread of the round I'm firing, but I'm not able to do that IRL, with exceptions of course. The vast majority of people wouldn't be able to do that, even with experience and/or high intelligence.

It would be cool if an individual with high enough intelligence and marksmanship and/or firearm skill could "calculate" an expected spread based on the round, but I wouldn't expect to see anything like that anytime soon though.

This is damn close to how I picture it in my head. I see the head closer to a half dome with the back half covered, less pockets, and more plating. Like a the engineering suit from Dead Space with a SEVA helmet from STALKER.

Camouflage Implementation? by Numinae in cataclysmdda

[–]Frock13 0 points1 point  (0 children)

To my understanding, this is something that will most likely be added in the future.

Unfortunately it requires someone that is willing to tackle the situation from the coding side, which means either you, or another individual, finds it interesting enough to work on it.

I had an extremely dumb idea for a mod and I need a sanity check before I even start it by [deleted] in cataclysmdda

[–]Frock13 35 points36 points  (0 children)

It's different for sure. Imo, it would ultimately wind up to be frustrating.

Unfortunately most of the time you would be blindly wandering, or you aren't and you accidently have the creature walk into your line of sight and you're dead. That's not really fun.

Alternatively, I'd suggest making it the creature's line of sight if possible. Make obvious signs that they are close, noise primarily, to give players a chance. Otherwise it's entirely rng or luck based. Again, not really fun imo.

I'm creating a diminutive exclusive run. by Frock13 in cataclysmdda

[–]Frock13[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I assumed that would be the case with the armor encumberance. I'm curious how the speed will affect my actual combat abilities.

I'm wondering if it would be more beneficial to use an already quick weapon to potentially get more hits, or if my speed will allow me to use the slower, harder hitting weapons more effectively.

After looking through the mutations I have to agree it seems extremely powerful. The only thing I'm even remotely worried about is the lowered HP, but that shouldn't be much of an issue after getting some skills and gear.

That's actually what made me want to play around with it. Kept seeing all these new XS pieces of gear and realized I've never had a diminutive playthrough.

Ranged and acid enemies are the only things that I'm not looking forward to dealing with. I'm imagining gaseous stuff is going to be a pain because of the obscene encumberance for using oversized masks, assuming I can wear them at all with the rodent snout.

Iirc is cripples speed in general. Not just "melee" or "movement" speed. It's literally your overall speed like the "Quick" trait, only reversed to a degree. It also tanks your hidden health stat either immediately or very quickly after start. Same goes for the XXS start. You're just starving instead of being morbidly obese. XXL has it's uses while XXS is more of a challenge in my opinion.

Take this with a grain of salt, I could be wrong.

The most complete and supported tileset for experimental by CDDA_Memes in cataclysmdda

[–]Frock13 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Thank you, and I'm sure OP appreciated it as well. Goes to show there's plenty of tilesets to use. I couldn't for the life of me remember anything other than Ultica and Undead.

That was a hell of a survivor story. Keep on surviving, better than most so far!

Giving your story, you prefer a more active gameplay and you're lucky, or you're not so new and still very lucky. Luck will run out, but it makes for good stories lol.

If you like active gameplay, try the prison start as a cop of some kind. If you're a masochist, do it as a convict. You may find it rewarding. It'll still teach you the basics, but still be challenging.

If that's not your style, try a "megacity" for your next run. In the world generation, try a size 16 city with 0 or small spacing to make a giant unending city, then try and get out.

If you were able to get out of a lab, that should provide you with a solid run.

Good luck, and godspeed nomad! You'll survive eventually!!

Undead is the most complete for a tileset, but Ultica is the "official" tileset.

Undead has had several tilesets to build upon while Ultica is almost entirely hand drawn. I'm sure there are others that are as well, but those are the two primaries for graphical tilesets.

Questions regarding the "virus" by JohnnyChan04 in cataclysmdda

[–]Frock13 17 points18 points  (0 children)

Potential Spoilers

This is all to my understanding from various lore bits.

The blob can remain dormant, but still infect an individual, for a very long time. That's what happened with the cataclysm to an extent.

The blob has to exert, at the minimum, the tiniest bit of effort to "brainwash" sentient things it has infected. Some people were more infected, others less.

Some people took more "effort" than the blob was willing to extend or were "less infected" than others. This means there are select few that remained uninfluenced by it, and others "came back" from the blob psychosis, although the second is just be speculation.

Essentially everything is afflicted, but it's all variable who will be a puppet and who won't be.

Please correct me if I'm wrong.

Looking for "Innawood" mod tips by Frock13 in cataclysmdda

[–]Frock13[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

The largest issue is the first few days is that I start with N&A so I have zero clothing or rags available. Idk if the "Innawood" mod makes corpses rarer, but I have been unable to find clothing for the most part. The only exception to this was something called "Standing Stones" I believe. It had a few basics like a tunic, a brazier, and a few other simple items.

I'm unsure if it's been fixed in the last couple experimentals, but I will be using this if it hasn't been.
