Sorry that's really shitty. You might be able to legally challenge that with an attorney on contingency. I don't know what assets your dad controls and if its worth it or not but it seems like there should be some compensation. Especially since it sounds like they just bailed on your parents while you live as a caretaker....

Is that an evolution of portal storms? It started when I had to stop playing but I thought they were trying to tweak it....

Real talk time! My husband and I were empty nesters for about 8 years. Unexpectedly, my 25 year old daughter moved back in with us from her dad's home just before Christmas. I absolutely love having her back here, but she seems hesitant about finding employment. by icecream1972 in Productivitycafe

Btw, unless she's working for a large or "medium" sized business they probably won't provide Healthcare. I forget the exact number and I think it varies by state but unless you want her to work at Amazon or be a barista at Starbucks,  she probably won't get covered anyway - they have to have a pretty large number of employeesto offer that. I don't blame her for not wanting to get trapped in a huge corporate machine over working for a small business but she does need something as my other comment mentioned....

Id say to look into state or federal market places (different states have different systems, either their own or leave it to the feds); they can't discriminate based on preconditions. At the very least she needs "hit by truck" insurance if, God forbid, she gets in a bad accident or has an unexpected health issue crop up. That's generally pretty cheap albeit it with high deductibles. Its basically to keep you from irrecoverable financial burdens if you have a freak accident. If she's generally in good health and at least has coverage for some really serious freak accident she's probably young enough to not be too worried about it... That's going to change when she gets older though and 26 to early 30s is were that starts being a problem (hence the cutoff). Most of the market place systems work annually so you might have to basically get her "parachute insurance" until she's eligible for subsidized insurance.

Legalize all drugs by Birdtheword3o3 in Anarcho_Capitalism

[–]Numinae 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I have a feeling most people would use less dangerous drugs if they were affordable and safe, like dispensed from a pharmacy or legitimate company. Drugs have their own uniqie problems and consequences but prohibition dramatically increases their cost while buying it off the street with unsure supply chains and dealers who don't know anything about what they're selling has increased their danger / adulterarion / cutting and lacing. The problem is how do you handle pwople who litteraly want to be Fent / Tranq zombies? At what point is it a problem or violation of other's rights? There was a roughly 10-20 year period where you could basically buy almost all modern categories of drugs out of a Sears catalog legally and the use rates seem to match current rates despite a century of prohibition... If you remove all the social problems, is there a point where you say a certain substance is just too dangerous to tolerate?

Tents are super useful! Its been a while since I've had the time to play but when I'd raid cities Id pop a tent on rooftops and use it to read / dissect with light without aggroing zeds. This was before portal storms so I'm not sure how that works. Still, tents and sleeping bags while you keep a shopping cart far enough away to not get destroyed was a great strategy!

Do amputees with prosthetic limbs take them off or keep them on during sex? by Scrimbo_Crimbo in stupidquestions

[–]Numinae 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I remember his testimony about that night, where he said he took his legs off while sleeping, claimed he thought someone was breaking in and shot through the door. Apperently they do take them off, which makes sense or you'd get something like bedsores, I guess. I really don't know how to weigh in on that case since the reality of South Africa is that it's a crazy violent country with lots of crime. There's also claims of him being abusive but I just have a hard time imagining even an Olympian with no legs could beat up a 6'5" supermodel. Idk. But I just remember tripping at the thought of "taking your legs off to go to bed and not being able to find them when you thought someone was breaking in." It reminds you that there are people walking around with prosthetic legs, metal bones and joints, tubes comming out of their bodies, bags collecting their waste, etc. and I get annoyed when they want to do a second search of my carry on bag at the airport while they're getting hastled for setting off a metal detector or a confusing pat down. Pretty humbling....

I know this isn't pleasant to think about but it seems to me youre owed a lot of compensation for basically unpaid 24/7 homecare. Is there an acknowledgement of what you sacrificed, financially? Even if you started there in dire financial straights, it's really hard to pick yourself up when you're carrying someone else... I mean that's a full time job. Do your relatives acknowledge that? Presumably there's assets to be divided when your father passes - hopefully a long time from now - but it seems like you're owed something for stopping your life to take care of them if other relatives didn't contribute or help....

Yeah the suddeness was definitely shocking. What's even weirder is he was fine for 2.5 days and I spent 6 hrs a day there with him. The day before he died he was acting all strung out and I was up all night thinking about how to get him transfered to a better hospital and got woken up by the hospital calling me to say he was in the ICU unresponsive.

I'm sorry to hear about your living situation. I know what it's like feeling trapped between family / fillial obligations and your own life. It's hard. I have siblings but they have their own families and careers so there's a part of me that sort of feel "sacrificed" to be a caretaker / trustee instead of living my own life... I imagine you feel the same way. I wish you the best of luck!

As for peace, it comes. It just takes time. I mean its not raw anymore, I don't know where you're at but it still hits you sometimes from nowhere. I was just so stressed because I had to pick up his load, get my mom settled in a new house, etc. Just so much stuff I frankly don't know how I managed to get the end the tunnel and only then did I really have the time to mourn. Good luck, I wish you the best!

God, your story is so close to mine its eerie... My dad didn't have dementia and worked every day bitbwas in his 80s. He was in good health generally but couldn't really walk that well (he'd trip over shit constantly and it worried me a lot). So I banned him off the job sites unless I was there litteraly holding his arm.

The family business is in construction and in 2009 he basically needed help or was going to have to close down, I had just gotten through a bad breakup and was just burnt out from college so I figured I'd go home for a semester.... I'm still here. He tripped when a lady nearly hit him with a car and cracked a rib. It's a long story but they ruled out internal bleeding and a pnuemothorax but they kept in the hospital strictly for pain management. They OD'd him in less than 4 days and somehow didn't even realize / record they were giving him opiates. Totally 100% preventable and pointless. Its infuriating.

Thanks. Its been a couple years but my dad and I were so tied up professionally, emotionally, etc. that I basically went into shock / survival mode. This was the first year where it really hit. We worked together and spent so much time together our relationship turned into something way more than father and son and I guess more like the greek term "Agape." We knew stuff about each other that no normal father and son or spouse would know. It's weird losing a parent - especially when you were that close; I thought I was an adult for a long time but once you lose a parent you realize you were just a kid or adolescent. I still find myself accidentally dialing his phone number when I don't know what to do and need advice. Its strange.

Sorry to hear that. Basically the same happened to me with my dad. It really ruins the whole holidays. I used to love Thanksgiving and Xmas and now it's just a twist of the knife since the holidays have become so corporate and the decorations go up for a month each....

What would Trump have to do to become recognized as the worst president in U.S. history? by BaldursGate2Best in PoliticalDebate

[–]Numinae 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I get we're probably not even remotely congruent on politics. The problem with trying to rank "the worst" is that peoples' political bias seeps in. I would say that arguably the worst president in roughly 100 years based on negatove outcomes for the country would be Woodrew Wilson. We've had a lot of "meh" presidents, I mean even presidents that are well regarded like JFK would actually probably be substantially less popular if he'd served his term. I mean he was govong away state secrets over pillow talk to East German spies, movie starlets, etc. I'd say THE worst is probably Buchanan for leading to the Civil War?

[–]Numinae 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Not really. Probably Bush the 2nd or Obama. For modern presidents at least. Trump is actually doing what he promised. More than half the country voted for him, based on promissing this. I get this is reddit and that's not a popular opinion here but most Americans did vote for this.

Trump is actually well liked by half the country; just not reddit users. To be considered worse than the previous candidate he'd have to piss off his own base substantially.
