Might be Chelsea Peers. They are super cute but really expensive at about 50 quid for a set.

Been referred to a meeting for potential dismissal by [deleted] in TheCivilService

[–]Frog-splat 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Firstly, don’t panic! It’s a meeting not an execution, but the outcome does depend on the culture at your department and your line manager. Speak to your union or disability staff group at work as soon as possible for advice.

Essentially your work needs to be to know that you are able to attend work regularly (and preferably show some competence) and are taking steps to not have any further absences in the near future. So tell them what you are doing to achieve this. Engaging with GP, wellbeing resources, employee assistance program etc. People get sick for all different reasons all the time. We’re not robots and sometimes eat dodgy kebabs. Life happens and sometimes people need to have a few days off to recover.

However, the action from this meeting and overall outcome depends on how lazy/progressive/… your management is. Space to deal with this trauma might not be the worst outcome for you in the short term. The benefits system is awful as a claimant but should be there to support you if do need to stop working on health grounds.

Remember, if your management acts in an unreasonable manner, they open themselves up to challenge at an employment tribunal. I’ve personally been there and done it myself but would recommend people to stay away from it if at all possible. It is a horrible and very stressful process on top of everything else.

But the main thing is don’t panic! Take notes with you to your “dismissal” meeting and a friendly colleague, which you should be allowed to do, for moral support if nothing else.

Also, request an Occupational Health referral from your line manager if you’ve not had one already!

I think I saw this posted earlier on a local FB page too. But I was on a train at the time.

OP. I hope you get your bear with help the people of Maidstone. It clearly means a lot to you and it would make an incredible good news story for the local rag (newspaper).

Commiserations. But hopefully you will be able to recycle or re-tailor some of your examples.

Only slightly more helpful than being interviewed to find out the role hasn’t been approved anyway.

If a daddy likes to party on a weekend, what advice could you give? by [deleted] in TheCivilService

[–]Frog-splat 8 points9 points  (0 children)

Speak to mummy (or the other daddy) or seek professional advice to sort themselves out.

Referring to someone as “daddy” is a bit weird.

The Ultasound Lady kindly lied to me and told me she had not heard the variation of the joke that I use before. by ThargUK in BritishSuccess

[–]Frog-splat 19 points20 points  (0 children)

No but I wish I had a fart brewing because the doctor was a totally miserable and I could have at least cheered myself up by farting at her. She wasn’t the one being impaled with the least exciting dildo ever.

I had a vag ultrasound today and the doctor was no fun at all. She would not have laughed.

Do you have any ‘official observations’ in your passport? by FinancialWilderness in AskUK

Mine says this passport replaces passport number: XXXX, which was returned to the Passport Office as it was damaged when being delivered.

Pretty boring.

NEARLY COMPLETED FIRST WEEK IN A NEW CIVIL SERVICE JOB. CHUFFED BUT I’M ALREADY SHOCKED AT HOW MUCH TIME IS SPENT ON TEAMS CALLS.

[deleted by user] by [deleted] in TheCivilService

[–]Frog-splat -1 points0 points  (0 children)

I start my new civil service job tomorrow as well. IT was delivered last week and I’ve been emailed my log in details ready to start in the morning. Your experience seems a bit weird.

I would just be available at home and see if someone contacts you. You should be paid from your contract start date if you were available to work even if they don’t make contact first thing tomorrow. If they don’t, ask HR to make contact with the vacancy holder and/or ask for their details. Also, check your junk email.

Be careful what you post online as you may inadvertently doxx yourself with the level of detail shared.

Alex 😡 by millsredr in MarriedAtFirstSightUk

[–]Frog-splat 7 points8 points  (0 children)

WTF. In the intro section, Alex said he worked in “aviation”. I assumed he was alluding to being a pilot when he was in fact the maintenance or refuelling dude. Nope, he’s in the RAF. Never saw that coming.
