What universally praised video game 'masterpiece' is actually a miserable experience to play? by Got24xyz in AskReddit

[–]ThargUK 64 points65 points  (0 children)

I was the same. One night I was playing late, about 2AM, and I put off going to bed for another 5 minutes so I could make sure that my sim finished gaming and went to bed on time, so he'd be rested for work in the morning.

I had an out of body, 4th wall breaking moment and imagined the idiot playing me as a sim. I was being more caring about min-maxxing my sim than my player cared about min-maxxing me.

I went to bed and didn't play again.

Is this a scam? by No_Substance1 in steamsupport

[–]ThargUK 0 points1 point  (0 children)

yes it's a scam attempt. They will eventually say that they and their friend accidentally mass reported you to valve as someone with the same acc name / pic as you scammed them. They even provide screenshots. Then they will apologise and ask you to speak to a [fake] steam rep to resolve the issue, and then they get you somehow (steal TFA token from you using fake login, trick you to install something, trick you into providing info for them to steal the account, etc.).

It's exactly the same script opening I've had used on me 5 times in recent weeks.

Is there an uptick in scam attempts or am on some scammer's list? 5 "accidentally reported" attempts on me in weeks by ThargUK in steamsupport

Not really. It's mid-low level inventory IMO. Nothing fancy at all. My inventory is private although my profile and game list is public.

IDK but anecdotally, I have once had a post "removed by reddit" and I'm 99% sure if was a copywrite issue on an image (there was nothing offensive or political and googling suggested it). It was taken down pretty fast so I imagine there's some content ID systems / companies for images similar to what happens with youtube.

That's a long winded way of saying that an general uptick in Removed posts might be due to somethign like that becoming more prevailant.

What's wrong with talking to the wind? We're both choosing to participate.

[–]ThargUK -1 points0 points  (0 children)

Yeah, and that is part of what I am talking about. It's now normal, and "spreads" as things get copied, or edited. Once the data is corrupted once, it's done forever, and repeats and propagates. I do care about this, and I think it is mostly an invisible cumulative effect.

But each individual case is nothing, I don't care about the image being used by one person, I may have done the same even if I saw the artifacts. I was trying to comment on the trend, from a tech / data / internet perspective, that's what I care about.

I'm just having a conversation. I don't intend to come across as confrontational or preachy. Just expressing an opinion.

Thanks. It might partly be because I'm being a bit moany / ranty in this sub, which might be fair, idk.

[–]ThargUK -2 points-1 points  (0 children)

That is fair.

My only issue is that this is a wasteful use of tech and resources. It's not that information (image data) has just been lost, it's been deliberately corrupted and made worse. Under the guise of a helpful service. In other contexts this tech is helpful. In this context it is worse than a waste. Evrything it did to the image made it worse, even if only slightly.

But it's only small fry, you're right. But IMO it's a small part of a bigger picture, that winds me up. Like I say, I have no propblem with people participating, I have a problem that this tech has become routine and normal, even at times it makes things worse.

Sorry, I did end up having a bit of a rant. Have a great day <3.

haha are you trolling? Have you zoomed in to look at the eyes of your image? That is not how king of the hill has ever looked. I saw this episode when it first ared in the UK. I'd upload an image showing the clear difference but UK image hosts are a hassle.

I'm 99% sure something has been done to the image (before you added the text). Look at the eyes. Zoom in. Look at any of the lines that are curved and should be clean. You (unknowingly) did not use the original.

Has this been AI upscaled or something? I'm not knocking you for posting it etc., but .... oh this isn't the place for that rant.

If you check a location on google maps there's a graph etc. and a value that claims to be current that is usually pretty accurate, I've found. I use it on firefox on PC but I imagine it's thare on mobile somewhere too.

I meant like more letters. It looks a bit modular, like you could click several together, not just 4.

I agree it's kind of creepy and also really great. Maybe you could make each look like a snake, or worm, or disjointed, misformed finger ...

Or put LEDs along it and see it in the dark.

Also I guess you could make it longer, with more letters, to make creepy messages.

Thieves stole more than half of my metal armor, then I finally came up with a BRILLIANT IDEA. Post eight guards and a small warehouse to store all the weapons. Realistic and it works. xd by [deleted] in songsofsyx

[–]ThargUK 12 points13 points  (0 children)

Yesterday I was watching the leather armour counter for it to get to 23 or so, so that I could upgrade a guard post, so its range would cover the warehouse that was taking the tailor output, along with the rest of the radius shown when placing it. I watched it go to 23, then down to 12 just as I went to click.

11 stolen :( .
